If it's just being a file server, anything is fine.

I'd skip the dedicated hardware RAID card and just buy any decent Intel CPU/MB. The onboard RAID is more than enough for your use case.

Just keep in mind that RAID isn't a backup solution. You should still have a place off-site to store your important files.

i would suggest you use raid 6 + some hotspares.

I had times lost a whole raid 10 because 2 drives decided to die in the same array group.

I currently have a 24TB home server just running on Intel Pentium G4400 and 16GB ram with Windows 10 Pro.
I use it to store my pics and videos for my work and some family stuff.

I was lazy and cheap out on this set up. So, i didn't put too much mind and $$ in this system. Until few of my drives died...lost valuable files on those drives.

Now, I am thinking to build a usable 30TB capacity with RAID 10.
Also, trying to improve performance.
Some of raw Video files are more than 100GB.

Few question i have

1. Does it have to be server CPU ? like Xeon ? Will I7 6700K (Got one laying around) be enough ?

2. I heard people are saying Hardware RAID is dead, most people use software raid ?? But I thought Hardware RAID is must faster.

For the system, CPU + MOBO + RAM +RAID CARD with budget of $1000

Appreciate it if anyone can help me on this.
Look at unraid it's a linux based OS designed for storage. In Unraid 1 drive acts as a parity drive and the rest are used as storage. Best part you can add more drives down the road.

You can pick up an LSI card from eBay for under $100 that will give you 8 sata ports.

Somthing like this: https://www.ebay.ca/itm/LSI-9240-8i-...sAAOSwcjpevOg8

Does anyone want to buy my BNIB ryzen 5 3600X for $313.59? ($279.99 + 12% tax = $313.59)

I was able to get a 3800x instead from a friend and thought I would offer it here before I return it to Canada Computers.

hmm you're right
when they do game-specific review they do more gamemplay but most of these cutscenes seem to be rendered real-time

It's time to build a new personal computer which will also be used for working from home, looking for advice on what to look out for when shopping for components.

Use case: minor 32:9 5120x1440 gaming, AutoCAD/Revit/Unity/Blender, maybe some VR.
Storage/PSU/Case I can re-purpose some of my existing components. Running two monitors, the 5120x1440 and a 4K.

These two really depend on availability:
CPU: 5600X or 5800X (Cooler Recommendation?)
GPU: 3060TI/3070/3080

These two have more options available:
MOBO: I should be looking for an X570 Board right?
RAM: 32GB, look for highest timings for price? 64GB?

EDIT: Will probably look out for a NVMe M.2 SSD as well if I see one on sale.

How big is your PSU the 3070/80/90 need beefy power supplies. Depending on the features you need you could go with a B550 MB. I would go with 2 or 4 sticks of 16 gig ram.

At 5120×1440, you're going to need the 3080 or better to push out that many pixels at a decent frame rate. At this resolution, your GPU would be the major limiting factor more-so than the CPU; have you checked out 4k resolution benchmarks for an idea of how many FPS you'll get for your particular game?

For RAM shopping I think the order of importance would be:
1) Capacity (e.g. 16GB, 32GB, 64GB)
2) Speed (e.g. 3200 MHz, 3600 MHz, 4000 MHz)
3) CAS Latency/timings (lower is better) e.g. CAS14 vs CAS16 vs CAS18

True, I currently have a 620W PSU so that might need an upgrade as well.
What are the main differences between the X570 and B550 boards?

Hard to find reliable benchmarks, the game is Hell Let Loose and its still Early Access/highly un-optomized. I don't game too much, just a few times a week for a few hours each time. Currently playing on a 970 getting like sub 40 FPS at low/medium-low settings lol.

You're good with a 620W.

I use a 3080 with a 650W and it's been fine. They pull at max either 320-350W depending on manufacturer and BIOS.

Anyone have an idea when 3070s and 3080s will be available?

I want to build a new PC, I should have preordered but I've been trying to build a new PC for the last month + but until I can get one of the new cards I'm not bothering. I also absolutely refuse to buy one off the secondary market based on principle.

I'm giving my son my current PC which actually isn't that bad, i7 10700, 1660 super ect but until I get a new one he ain't getting shit.

In general, is there much benefit in getting an OC version gpu vs a stock version?

I'm looking at the 3060ti Eagle. They have an OC version as well, but couldn't I just OC the stock one myself if I really wanted to squeeze out every bit of power?

No, not really. You can just use Afterburner and set the clocks manually.

The OC is usually a cash grab, but they are usually slightly better binned.

If you see yourself overclocking the 3060TI, I'd probably go with the OC if it's not too much more. If you don't care that much, just get the non-OC and manually set the clocks to match the OC version.

Building a twitch/youtube streaming set up for the kids.
what's a good budget mobo microatx and CPU combo to handle video streaming, likely to use OBS or Streamlabs with one or two cameras (they're doing something like a talk show)
8gb ram good enough?

Not sure about graphic card for streaming.
Integrated or standalone GPU?, do I even need a capture card?
Should 1080p webcams be ok? Or should I get them 4k ones?

I have a 4x4 audio interface and mics from my djgears, so I can guest DJ their show as well lmfao.
I know it's alot of questions but you guys are the most knowledgeable. I've googled budget streaming setups but they're idiotic (or maybe I am) and no help.
Anyways any help is appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Used cheap parts you guys are offloading will be a bonus hahaha
