Now to hunt for a PSU and a SSD [emoji28] Sent from my SM-N975W using Tapatalk |
Not super impressed by the speed improvements of a fast NVM-E drive over a fast SSD. It's a bit faster yes, but not significant. The real big leap must be when PC gets something like the consoles have, with direct memory access. |
Spoiler! jeeezz that took forever....yesterdays drop at 11pm |

The price says $429.99 now on the site. |
Can someone explain bottleneck in the simplest way possible (ELI5) ? I read a Ryzen 3600 + RTX 3070 won't bottleneck on 1440p but it will bottleneck on a 1080p Is this even true, and if so, what's the logic behind this? Isn't 1440p more demanding? |

At 1440p with high graphical settings, the GPU is fully saturated, putting out as many frames as it possibly can. It depends on the game, but if it's, say, Cyberpunk with RT on, you're looking at 40 FPS probably. The CPU could deliver more frames if the GPU could output them fast enough, but at these settings, it can't, so the CPU has to wait. So the GPU is the bottleneck. At 1080p with low graphical settings, the GPU doesn't have to work as hard, and is putting out frames as fast as the CPU can deliver them. Note that this might be like 200-300 FPS already, it really depends on the game. Cyberpunk at 1080p low with RT off might be like 120-140 FPS. If you installed a faster CPU, the GPU might be able to get some more frames, so maybe it would run at like 150 instead of 140. Because in this case, the CPU was the bottleneck. Hope that is ELI5 enough CPU is rarely an issue unless it's really old, but again and again, it all depends on the game. Quake 2 might be CPU bound at 1080p on a 3070, but at 300 fps who cares? You might have seen in the Cyberpunk thread that Ryzen CPUs were CPU bottlenecked REALLY bad before the patch/hex edit. This is because half the logical cores were disabled. |

No, There was drop at new years and i managed to capture it asap...was a rush because the day before i had a 5800x from newegg but i knew i'd never use those extra cores + extra cost was bothering my perfectionist build so i canceled that. i'm currently waiting on the mesh ii rbg case and 16gb 3600mhz 16cl ram from newegg right now with bestbuy's Corsair iCUE H100i Elite Capellix 240mm Liquid CPU Cooling System. this is it so far. Spoiler! i had to pack that psu around walking and wtf it feels like its 20 pounds but decent deal at $150 from bb. super hyped to get 722 fps in cs go and whatever fps that possibly can reach 360hz with a 5600x :fuckyea: i decided the stock cooler it comes with is kinda trash if you're playing extended hours, someone was playing cod coldwar and was reaching 88 degrees on the wrath. this 240mm should be 30 idle to 66 max temps gaming. |

Nice pickup. I'm still on the fence between the 3600 or 5600X. Does anyone know when Memory Express and Canada Computers put up sales? Like do they just refresh new sales every Thur/Fri? (Kind of like what NCIX did) I missed out on some good sales during the holidays because I didn't want to have a bunch of parts sitting on idle without knowing when I'll be able to get a cpu or gpu. I'm not in any rush, but my initial plan was to have a new system built during Black Friday. The longer I wait, the more I want to change my build.... Initially I was going to just upgrade the essentials, now I'm thinking of doing a complete new build. I've always gone with air cooling, but this time, I'm going to try AIO liquid cooling. |

I'd check https://www.reddit.com/r/bapcsalescanada/ once a day to see what's happening. The 5600X will likely be sold out unless you set up alerts though. I'd go with a larger air cooler unless you're limited in space or want the aesthetics of a liquid cooler. If you're not in a rush, I'd just wait until the 5600X is being stocked regularly. Zen 4 won't be out until mid-2022. |
i joined this discord server how i sniped my gpu and cpu. https://www.reddit.com/r/bapcsalesca...acking_server/ some people setup there own "distill" but you can get IP banned as it detects too many refreshes in short amount of time. my tip would be save your credit card number on newegg and canada computers, hell even bestbuy for gpu's for the instant check outs. you'll get screwed over ez cause you're sitting there taking forever to type in all the information while its sitting in your cart, this happened to me on consoles and my first time trying for a 3080 rtx...pressed "payment" and someone already got it ahead of me. |
Ive been using that discord to try and find a PS5 and 3080 but been taking Ls lol also eyeing the 5600x |
you guys still gonna buy a 3080 if you can get hands on one? 3080ti 20gb 'coming' in feburary https://www.tomsguide.com/news/nvidi...omments-478654 |
yeah how much is it gonna run you knowing amd can't compete gpu wise $1300 before tax?, maybe more. 1440p 144hz would be perfect for that though, one top streamer said he got tired of 1080p and wanted to upgrade...still does insane clutch plays close range and seems even better at far distance shots because increased resolution....it really weird watching him hit something miles away and 1080p it looks like a dot , but he's dropping people that far. |

^ on the bright side maybe that means the scalpers will leave the regular ones alone? |
Scalpers are ordering any video card they can get their hands on. It won't matter until things stabilize closer to the middle of the year IMO. |
mayb cyberpunk fixed by then haha |

Managed to order a 5900x. So now whats left is the CPU Cooler/RAM/Mobo. Thoughts on these or alternate suggestions? CPU Cooler: CORSAIR iCUE H100i RGB PRO XT, 240mm Radiator, Dual 120mm PWM Fans, Software Control, Liquid CPU Cooler I actually have the original H100 from when I bought it in Jan 2012. Still running after 9 years (2 computer builds) with no leaks. Ram: G.SKILL Trident Z RGB Series 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4 3600MHz CL17 Dual Channel Memory Kit 1.35V (F4-3600C17D-32GTZR) Mobo: TBD. Figured my last computer build was 6 years ago, and I updated the GPU/RAM/SSD during that time. And having a X570 board would probably benefit me for going PCIe Gen 4 for SSDs at a later date. GPU upgrade to come at a later date when I've done more research and can find stock, currently using a GTX 970. Link to full build: https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/kmLVLP |
Sounds fine to me - good choices on both the motherboard and RAM - but do you really need wi-fi built in? |
Edit: mixed things up. |

Unfortunately for me, the huge disadvantage of building a full liquid cooling loop is that you can't just swap out the graphics cards... especially factoring in having to buy a - probably expensive - waterblock every time you swap cards :( The 5080ti will probably be released by the time I actually do an upgrade. And despite the lack of modularity with a custom loop, I will probably never go back to aircooled/AIO builds. I'm pretty excited to do even more complex loops in the future xD But dang, I feel like I'm missing out... brother placed a deposit down for a 3080 recently (no clue how long he will have to wait though). EDIT: apparently he already got his 3080. From deposit to receiving was only like 2 weeks... not nearly as bad as I thought it would be :O |
glad i never got into custom watercooling hell i dont even overclock anymore it's like getting old and not wanting to mod a car's tits off because you're just gonna sell it at a huge loss |

Although my most hardcore modding days were about getting as silent as possible. It was a lot harder back then with high wattage CPUs and GPUs. I remember I had a Zalman fanless water cooler that was the about 1m tall LUL |
