I'm in the same boat as RRHG - if nobody else wants it I'll take it but it won't be used for gaming primarily so those who don't have a card yet can go ahead!

+1 for being a good guy!

I'm going to be looking for a GPU as mine is probably on its last leg.

Time to face off with the bots.

If anyone has insights, let me know. I'm already on an alert stream.

This is a little sad to hear... although I guess we shouldn't be too surprised? :S

TLDW:
Canada Computers has decent stock of 30 series GPUs that customers have PAID for (or at least placed deposits?), but are not handing them to customers.

Instead, they are sitting on the supply to put into full PC builds (with case, motherboard, etc etc) to sell for more profit/margins.

In a way I can see how this is justified or in a way.... "legally OK" to hold stock.

1) Just cause you paid a deposit doesn't mean the product is yours.
2) Even if you paid, it's not YOURS until you get it.
3) you have the right to get your money back.

You can't just walk into a car dealership and say, I PUT a 2K deposit.. I see your lot has 1 identical car with the right spec.... it's MINE.
I'm suing you for you cause you're holding my stock ahahahah good luck with that

I don't think your car analogy really works here...

If we are going with car comparisons, then it might be closer to say, a set of nice wheels.

You pay a deposit for some nice OEM wheels. The car dealer takes your deposit, KNOWING they having tons of those wheels in stock, with no actual intention of handing you any wheels.

And when you find out and call them out on it, their response/reasoning is "we are only willing to sell these wheels with a new car as a package".

That might still sound reasonable to an extent... but then, why take a customer's deposit if you have absolutely NO intention of selling the wheels? The dealer is intending to just keep stocking more and not ever selling them.

It's not like they are holding on to a few, and when new ones come in, they will sell them. They are literally holding onto most if not all of them, and ONLY selling them as packages.

Basically, the person who paid a deposit could wait indefinitely (or until the market / demand cools off).

Also, unless I missed it, I don't think it was mentioned what kind of deposit we are talking about. If the customers paid a deposit IN FULL, and then aren't given the product when the product is sitting there, that is different than a 10% or even 50% deposit.

I don't know the full ethics of a deposit, but I feel like when you take someone's deposit, you're basically 'promising' dibs on the product when you have one available.

But you do get the option to get your money back right? So I don't think it's as serious it seems.

Canada Computer sucks for withholding stock from people that paid in full for preorders, however, it's fine if they're withholding stock to push prebuilts.

The deposit was paid in full. Why take pre-orders if you don't plan on fulfilling them? It's like ordering a car paying in full but then the dealer selling it for more money to someone else.

Not including the GPU, you're looking at around $800 new for everything.

lol I'm also in the market for a 3060, doesn't even have to be ti.
Edit: Actually I don't even care anymore, I'll take any 30xx series. Or even 20xx series? That's the previous gen right?

Are you willing to pay like $600 for a 2060?

If yes, the market out there for it and you probably wouldn't need to wait very long.

I checked the stores and there are no 2060's available, but then that was a knee jerk reaction.
I think I will hold out for the 30xx to become available...

Do you guys go to the physical stores to chat with the staff and ask questions?
Personally I've found the employees at Memory Express to be much more personable and friendly compared to Canada Computers. The ones on West Broadway anyway. They are across the street from each other.
I went to CC to purchase a SSD and the service was so... nonchalant. I asked if I should get the Samsung EVO or the Western Digital, the older asian man just blankly stared "do you want it or not" kind of attitude.
I would have given my money to Memory Express but they didn't have any stock at that location. Last time I was at Memory Express the guy there spent a good 30min explaining to me the differences of some motherboards and video cards and was totally cool with me taking up so much of his time.

I've always felt that while both ME/CC are great if you want just a quick in/out transaction, ME was always the better choice if you wanted to ask a few questions. People there tend to have a genuine interest in the technology, are much friendlier, and aren't just salespeople.

I used to go to the Richmond ME location a lot. One of the managers there recognized me each time I went there. I think the last time I went was around 2015 before it closed shop.

Fast forward to last year, that same manager ended up moving to the Burnaby location since the Richmond one closed down. While I didn't expect him to recognize me after all these years (especially while wearing a mask), he recognized my name when I went to go pick up an item. I was honestly amazed.

Another time, I went to go pick up a PCI-E riser for a case. One employee (that wasn't even helping me) walked by and reminded me about potential issues and how I might need to manually force PCI-E 3.0 if I have a more recent motherboard. While I probably would've figured it out if I was having the issue, it was nice of that employee.

Pretty sure that none of these things would've happened if I was shopping at CC.

Yes exactly! The (3 different) workers I've dealt with at ME seem to be passionate about tech. Whereas CC employees it's just a job, pretty much on par with being a cashier at Superstore. Scan, pay, leave.

The extra little service goes a long way.
What I've done for a few of my recent purchases is go to ME, and then look up the price of CC (which for the last few items I purchased were $5 cheaper) and ask ME to price beat (10% of the difference). If it's the same price, definitely rather give my money to ME.

I just remembered another instance at CC: I asked would it be ok if I bought these 3200mhz sticks and put them together with my dual 3000mhz RAM sticks?
The guy literally said "It should, google it" ... I left and walked across the street, the rep at ME explained there is a chance that my 3000 sticks could be overclocked but worst case they can be matched to run all 4 at 3000 and the price is negligible, and helped me look up the specs, etc ... needless to say I bought from them.

You could try Hardware Canucks. Lots more Canadian users on that site with relevant Canadian discussions regarding PC hardware.
