I put the computer at around $925 without the video card.

I put the laptop at around $1500 at the lower end. You can probably post it for a bit more. Does it have ProSupport Plus? Even better.

I put the monitors for around $200.

Been watching used and new laptops for a long while now and Imo 1500 for laptop high end.
1100-1200 low end. Even with those upgrades.
If you can get 1500 that's great. Anything more you're getting into more newer better performing one's.
Agree on rest.

What do you guys do to erase the hard drives before selling it so people can't go back and retrieve old data?

mk1freak 05-27-2021 03:37 PM

CCleaner multi pass clean. Takes awhile tho. :okay:

From what I've read if you have REALLY sensitive information on it, then it's not worth the money to sell the drive. Hackers will find a way if they really wanted to. Just keep it or physically destroy it, but unless you are Gal Gadot recording homemade porn or banking profiles on it I wouldn't worry too much. IMO just format it.

Personally when I upgraded to SSD, I just kept my old hard drive to hold backups (I have 3 iPhone backups in there that took a huge chunk of memory) and random old Chinese movies that you can't find on streaming sites anymore.

Question

I've got an enterprise ssd installed into a workstation motherboard (re: bitcoin thread)

The drive is plugged into a m.2 to u.2 adapter, windows isn't detecting it, I've no clue as to why... Ideas? Is there like a bios setting I need to adjust?

Razor Ramon HG 05-27-2021 07:18 PM

Does it show up in the Disk Management snap-in or in the BIOS?

Is it an HDD or an SSD?

If it is an HDD, I'd use this:

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sys...nloads/sdelete

and I'd run anywhere between 1 - 35 passes to wipe the drive, depending on how concerned I'd be about the data on the drive. (Actually, I won't. If I'm going to do anything more than 3 passes, I'm just gonna not bother selling.)

If it is an SSD, I haven't found a reliable enough program to wipe it yet, although Intel and Samsung drives are supposed to have 1st party tools that can do this for their own drives.

underscore 05-27-2021 07:44 PM

For the cost of a drive I just keep them. Maybe I'm just paranoid lol.

No doesn't show up at all

I've tried different adapters, two m.2 to u.2, and a pcie to u.2 adapter, and no luck

I've even downloaded a Samsung nvme controller, still no luck (Google showed someone with the same issue, and the controller fixed his problem)

Going to try a different computer, and cable next

But omg it's always something when I put a computer together!

I've never tried slotting a U2 into a home computer, but if it's not showing up in the BIOS, you'll never see it in Windows.

StylinRed 05-27-2021 09:23 PM

These drives were insanely expensive, I hope I can figure it out :okay: might still be able to return it tho, but ugh such a pain

Razor Ramon HG 05-27-2021 09:32 PM

Also do a count of your PCI-E lanes. Could be that, who knows.

StylinRed 05-28-2021 05:51 PM

Tried a different enterprise drive (same model) and tried both drives on my other WS neither of them work

The other WS has SAS ports on the board, so I didn't need an adapter, so I'm thinking it's either the drives or my cables FeelsBadMan

StylinRed 05-29-2021 09:18 AM

I found this in the bios under Advanced

"generic nvme pcie ssd configuration data" and it gives the details of the u.2 drive, it can't detect its capacity, or seem to offer anything more than the model # of the drive

But I don't know what to do with that information

3080 TI + 3070 TI announced

on a mission to get a 3080 TI lol

lilaznviper 06-01-2021 01:05 PM

pricing is also crazy for those cards as well :(

Obsideon 06-01-2021 04:10 PM

Apparently the 3080ti is supposed to have a hidden hash rate cap on it as well so it won't be as efficient for miners.

Vansterdam 06-01-2021 05:33 PM

I dont plan to build a new PC till next year. but at this rate, I feel like I should try and at least get a 3080 TI for retail.

no new games this year that really catches my eyes either... far cry 6, back 4 blood, dying light 2, diablo 2 remake and thats about it.

Im just hoping I get my new gaming rig in time for GTA 6 whenever they actually decide to do it lol
