Yeah, you will lose your files if you wipe the drive during install. If not, you can do an install over the existing one and the old installation will move to Windows.old and then you should be able to pull your existing files.

But yeah, I would recommend a clean install. You can either back up your files first through the command line within the Windows 10 setup or by putting the drive into another working system.

Walked by the Memory Express near metro. They had some 3070 Ti and 3080 Ti in stock.

This is all assuming you don't care what is on the 1TB SSD and just want the contents of the 128GB SSD on that + have an extra 8xx GB of space.

Thanks! I was able to clean the target drive (Samsung) using diskpart after unplugging the original SSD and booting from a thumb drive.

Then I ran Macrium Reflect again to clone my old OCZ drive and I was able to resize the partition to take up the entire space of Samsung. Turns out I missed the option to set the new partition properties:

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...3db2d157_w.jpg

When you click on "Cloned partition properties", you get a slider that you just need to drag all the way over to the right.

So now my Samsung drive with a clone of the old drive is the only drive connected, but the computer won't boot from it. :(

It is a MBR disk so it can simply use legacy boot. Computer "upgrades" are always so simple in theory, but all sorts of weird problems always come up. :flamemad:

underscore 08-01-2021 02:25 PM

It's been a while since I messed with that stuff, but did you set the flags to mark it as a boot drive?

Speed2K 08-07-2021 09:27 AM

I'm thinking of building a new PC for Sim Racing and mining, but wow, the 3080 GPUs are hard to come by still. Any good pre-builts worth considering? Budget around $3k for the computer.

What's the best tool for totally wiping a drive? Completely obliterating all data to the point of unrecoverable.

BFH -- seriously.

underscore 08-10-2021 04:07 PM

BFH isn't an option for this one. That is my standard approach though.

roastpuff 08-10-2021 06:43 PM

DBAN! Been around a long time and my preferred way of non destructive data wiping.

I finally had time to tackle this issue
Apparently I can't really do anything but boot up in safe mode.
But going into safe mode basically doesn't give me access to do anything other than back up files.

At this point, I would like to create a recovery usb drive and just reinstall windows entirely but I'm unable to run Recovery Media Creator in safe mode.

Razor Ramon HG 08-14-2021 07:58 PM

You can run this on any Windows computer.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/soft...load/windows10

Just plug in a 8GB or larger USB drive, download it, run it, and choose to create a bootable USB drive.

underscore 08-16-2021 02:35 PM

Can you run the built-in reset from Safe Mode?

Settings > search for "Reset" and pick "Reset this PC"

AzNightmare 08-17-2021 01:23 PM

Is all good now. I just created a USB boot drive from that link.
Did a clean windows install and it's working fine now.

AzNightmare 08-26-2021 12:30 AM

Finally! got my 30 series gpu.... Been on/off actively and semi-actively searching for one since December.

"Just" a RTX3070, but I initially wanted a 3060ti, and was coming from a gtx970, so this is a huge upgrade. I'm so stoked. :ahwow:
I have a stockpile of games that I've been withholding from playing because I specifically wanted to wait until I could get a gpu to play on my ultrawide 1440p monitor.

I'm going to vertical mount it to try something different, which I'm also very happy about, since I like building PC's... maybe even more so than gaming, lol.

I got into building PC's during the lockdown, being OCD it's quite time consuming. However I had a lot of that to spare. It's almost therapeutic haha, slowly put together 3 PC's over that time.

Building a PC with OCD is literally a nightmare :lol

Especially once you get into overclocking and messing around with graphic settings/configs based on certain games, it's never ending, and you'll never be truly satisfied.

Here's my most recent build with more pictures here - https://imgur.com/a/8PuvKBS

Made with parts from the ASUS x Gundam collaboration stuffed into a Lian Li O11 Dynamic Mini. I usually have the RGB off or in white, but it looks pretty cool too when I have the RAM sticks matching the RX-78-2 colours and rest in white.

Costed me a small fortune since it was part of a bundle that Memory Express sold, so let me know if any of you want to buy the Gundam case, lol.

WTF... That looks like a 3D render.
What camera did you use?

I thought about a white build, but I was also trying to bargain hunt and with such a smaller selection on white version parts, I would have to end up paying more to settle with "what you see is what you get".

Just an iPhone 12 Pro with a little touch up.

Yeah, not alot of options if you want a white GPU because it's either the ASUS Strix or Gigabyte Vision.

I think the rest are pretty easy to grab.

Manic! 08-29-2021 08:30 PM

Zotac also makes a white GPU.

That... is freakin' beautiful!
Do you have a pic with the white RGB's on?

Vansterdam 09-02-2021 05:59 AM

The pictures with the lights on are with the white RGB, but the white balance makes it look blue.
