I'm back with a new predicament! I was also able to play FH5 in lowest/medium quality with no problems :fullofwin: So I got bored this weekend and started setting up a new media server LOL. Now I've ran into hardware limitations. My new media server is currently running on a Dell 7040 TINY LOL (i5-6500/250gb ssd/8gb ddr4) My previous media server is on a core2duo (E8400? I need to check, multiple 1TB HDD, 16GB DDR2) I think it was having troubles broadcasting, and it started having fan issues so I left it off. - The i5-6500 is removeable from the 7040 and I can repurpose this for a new build. A mobo seems to be difficult to find right now. - My current machine is a i5-4670k so far so good, no complaints about it, but I can repurpose this as well while doing a 12th gen build  - Or I fix up the core2duo machine Machines are running Ubuntu + Docker and the whole jazz. Thoughts? |

Q. I just uninstalled a hard drive from my computer Now I just have a blinking green sb_pwr light Did I kill my mitherboard/psu from uninstalling a hard drive? I turned the psu off too when I did so wtf Edit: realized the blinking heartbeat led is a different led |
No, that wouldn't kill a board, but you might've damaged something else in the process. |
forgot to mention the hard drive is one of those pcie ssd drives hhhhl? or something, I forgot what they're called I tried swapping psu's too, didn't work /cry fml |
did you try putting it back to how it was before it stopped working? |
Yeah first thing I did, but naw Google results seem to say the sbpwr led only blinks (instead of a solid) if the psu or mb is fkd, and I've tried a different psu, so ig that means :QQ: |
I wonder if you shorted it somehow. |
I'm thinking so, but I can't figure out how, the psu was off, maybe I had a static charge on me or something :okay: I just noticed the leds on the lan ports on the back are all blinking too (Amber) |
It's really hard to kill your components via static. What I may want to do is see if anything is loose, sometimes if something is loose it could cause that. |
So I went to explore the issue again and.... The sb_pwr led wasn't blinking anymore, it was solid (as normal) and the heartbeat led was on again And it powered on! Wtf But still have a problem Everything powers on, but I just get the bios splash screen and just an immediate blank screen with a blinking underscore _ Can't even enter the bios So I gotta figure that one out now :/ |
Usually static damage takes time to actually kill something anyways. Have you checked the port the HDD was connect to, to make sure a pin didn't get bent or something when you removed the cable? |
Looks like it was my HBA card Once I removed that everything booted up normally without a hitch |
Haven't been following GPU prices for a while. How much is a used 3080 gigabyte OC? Might sell mine due to not gaming anymore. |

I WFH and work sent me a prebuilt Alienware PC with pretty high end specs a couple of months back. It has a rtx 3090 in there... is there a way to check if it's LHR? I know nothing about mining, but it seems kind of tempting since the "tool" is sitting right there... would this be profitable with just 1 gpu or will the net gains be diminished from heavy electricity usage? That being said, I also question it's cooling capabilities... I have the feeling prebuilt AW PC's aren't meant for the OC'ing demographic. :considered: |
Does your company have an IT department? I imagine there is some sort of device management system and endpoint security pre-installed on the system. Your miner will probably be flagged right away and someone will be contacting you. |

But I guess I can never really be sure if there's stuff pre-installed to track everything I do. |
you won't know if there is software installed as its all hidden. we have a software installed on all of our clients laptops/desktop that leave the office. the user will not know the software is even isntalled as they won't find it anywhere in the program list or control panel program uninstall list. |
take out the 3090 and plug it into another machine to mine when not working, then put it back into the work computer when you need to do work. lol |

so how the software works, is it can alert us of any software/hardware changes, it can log everything that is being done on the computer AKA track if you are actually working or not. push out updates to software and OS if needed. but mainly companys buy it so they can track it if it gets stolen, freeze the drive if users are let go and they try to delete company info, remote wipe the data if it is stolen, and do a continuous wipe if we figure we don't give a fuck about that machine so its render useless to the person who stole it even if they replace the hard drive on it. |
