Yeah, I specifically waited for the GTX 660m. It uses the new 28nm Kepler architecture.
The 670m and 675m are still on the 40nm Fermi architecture (although they are still technically faster than the 660m).

As I specced it out (with 160GB SSD and 750GB secondary and 16GB RAM), it came out to $1525.81 + tax.

Has anyone tried the Intel SRT (Smart Response)? Does it actually work half decent?

Can't justify spending $200+ on an 100GB+ SSD.

they're not 200+ for a 100gb+ anymore... i just PM'd a crucial M4 128gb for $13x+tax. some other ppl got them for $12x by PM it w/ tigerdirect.ca

i think you use smaller and dedicated ssd's for SRT.

A 120GB SSD can be had for $120.

I just paid $199 for a 240GB SSD. Prices for SSD is <$1/GB nowadays.... awesomeness. I remember paying $100 for a 80GB HDD.

Ugh, damn Americans were able to get the 128GB M4 today for $110 shipped from Buy.com.

I was thinking on getting a <60gb SSD for the SRT.

I couldn't justify spending around $200+ for a 120GB+(ideally 240gb+) as a primary drive. I know there are cheaper drives out there. But I want a very reliable drive if it's going to be my primary (Intel 520). I did a bit of searching, seems like the Intels are the most reliable but also the most expensive. Read alot about OCZ drives and how they're not as reliable. Mind you most the threads I could find about SSD's were from 2011.

I figured if I bought a cheaper 60gb SSD for SRT I wouldn't need to worry so much about drive failure because it's only used for caching.

I'm aware if I run a bigger SSD as my primary it is faster, but reliability is my main thing. After reading so many horror stories about SSD it has me worried. I'm not really willing to spend $200+ on a reliable SSD yet. So I figured spend $60 on an SSD to try out SRT if it's actually worth it. I haven't found many personal reviews. Alot of the reviews are by big sites that seem to have a one sided view.

Just curious if anyone has had first hand experience with Intel SRT and their opinion on it. Or if you guys have good experience with the cheaper SSD's please share some insight. I've combed so many forums and get mixed reviews.

Cman I am about to test the ocz synapse against Intel's caching. Stay tuned. I reviewed this product against a normal hdd and it made a huge difference. But I probably made a mistake in not comparing it to intel cache. I may also include a regular SSD as well

SRT and caching used to be a selling point when SSDs were expensive but
as many have pointed out, you can find M4 for $130 or less these few weeks so it make sense just to grab one instead of finding a 40/60/80GB and use Intel's SRT. Samsung 830 (available only in US) and the M4 both dont fall too far behind the intel in terms of reliability.

16gb ram in the last page. Do you need that much ram nowaday?

I am running 8gb and it never hits 50% or above, what do you guys run?

I have 16GB and it is sitting at 10GB used right now. But I was just using Photoshop, so... (Chrome is using 233 MB since I was using some flash apps for something)

IMO ram is so cheap, there's no reason not to get 16GB. 4 sticks of 4 will be cheaper than 2 sticks of 8

what kind of ram should I get for a 3570K overclocked to let's say 4.5ghz? 1600mhz is enough or higher? I am no hardcore photo or video editor, enough is enough.

1600 is plenty. Get something with low latency at 1.5v, preferably one with low profile heatsinks. For budget, think Kingston. Otherwise go with Crucial

With 16gb of ram opposed to 8 I noticed quite an increase In small things like the speed at which USB devices are dectected

More ram = more ram used.

Example: I have 8gb of ram and I'm running a program and it takes 4gb.

If I had 16gb of ram and I'm running the same program it should take higher than 4gb.

I have 16GB in my Mac Mini.

All the apps just run smoother (specially when I have Photoshop, Sketchup Pro, LR opened whenever I'm working).

Memory are so cheap nowadays that there's no reason not to max out.

Other than gaming and cruising forums its not used for anything else. No pr0n no nothing. Trying to keep this virus/spyware free lol

but if you dont upgrade often i recommend just getting 16GB...cause it can be difficult to find matching rams down the road when you do benefit from it.

You don't really feel all the much in gaming (more like none)

When you have a lot of memory, you could start experimenting stuff... like running a little server off your machine, Photo editing, model building (CAD)... etc.

And 16GB allows you to pretty much do all that simultaneously with no noticeable decrease in performance because moving all that data on HDD/SSD is slow... but memory have GB/s of transfer rate, so everything just flow better.

Anyone help me out here? My graphics card evga GTX560ti448 cores classified gets really hot when playing minecraft, but not when i play BF3 max settings? This isn't even in SLI..

Temps are around 75C.. peaked at 83C.

Where did you buy from? and is it specifically a desktop replacement for you or do you take it places? Also wondering what it's like to have a beast like that on your lap? (on a hard surface of course)

It's more or less a desktop replacement. The only places I'll be taking it is between upstairs and downstairs at my house.. *maybe* occasionally to a friends house to game or something, but that's not at all the intention.

and.. yeah.. probably wouldn't use it on my lap.
