Who's into the keycap swapping, custom keyboard stuff?

I've been using this membrane keyboard since 2008 and it's still going strong, but I assume I'll have to buy a mechanical keyboard with cherry MX switches to customize the keys? Are most custom keycaps you can find online basically compatible with any keyboard that uses the cherry MX switch?

Anyone know off the top of their head what the best value laptops are nowadays? My work laptop is starting to lag and I'm debating on upgrading to something new.

Only downside is my current laptop is from maybe 2017-18? So it's good enough to use but not sure if it has much if any resale value.

First question about your laptop -- how much RAM does it have now? and have you maxed out your SODIMM slots?

My laptop is from around 2017 - 2018 as well, and at the time, it only came with 8GB RAM. I started noticing it getting slower some time last year, and I so spent ~$25+tax during BF to add another 8GB of RAM into it. Of course it didn't change into any sort of speed demon, but it is running a lot smoother with noticeably less lag now. I figure if that $25+tax means I can squeeze another 12 - 18 months out of the laptop, I would have gotten more than my money's worth.

For business, I'm a huge fan of Lenovo Thinkpads. They've always been a solid design and very little issues. Although Lenovo's pricing has gone up a little, I still think they're the best for business.

HP Elitebooks are also nice in comparison with the Aluminum design similar to Macbooks, but still on the slightly thicker side.

For selling depending on the specs i've sold used Thinkpads(2015-2019) for ~$200, i5, 8GB, 256SSD. There's always someone looking for a used cheap laptop. But I always price my stuff a little under market, so I can just get rid of the items instead of hoping to get max $ amount.

Pretty cool product from Lenovo @ CES

lilaznviper 01-18-2023 12:10 PM

for work, i would spend a bit more. at least i5, 16gb and 512 ssd. 16gb is min memory now. for power users, i do 32gb of memory

I would go with Lenovo T14s or x1 carbon, dell xps

if budget is a concern, i would go with the Lenovo Thinkbooks as they can be easly had for under 1k on sale with decent specs

Did you use an aftermarket adapter or does your case includes an adapter for vertical gpu mount?

The Vertical GPU mount is official Lian Li accessory and its for this particular case.

The 3080 FTW3 is too wide. It doesn't have issue fitting with 3080 XC or other cards.

Neat Meg Griffin decal (or whatever it is)

It's the Corsair Elite LCD liquid cooler. The pump unit has a LCD on it so you can stick images onto it. I debated upgrading mine, lol.

twitchyzero 01-31-2023 06:35 PM

you can insert just about any gif lol

Anyone have an Nvidia Shield or Apple TV? Looking to get some sort of streaming box since the apps on my TV are slow and the remote sucks for navigating.

I believe both devices also support apps like kodi for additional features.

roastpuff 02-03-2023 10:24 AM

Have an Apple TV, great device if you are in the Apple Ecosystem. Same with the Shield if you're with Android.

TOS'd 02-03-2023 10:29 AM

I have PCs, Macbooks, and Android Phones. Casting anything to the TV would come from either a macbook or an android phone. So its kind of a toss up in that sense for ATV vs Shield.

I am more interested in the modding capabilities of the units in regards to like IPTV apps (English and Chinese ones).

roastpuff 02-03-2023 11:51 AM

Then the Shield for sure - Android base is much more versatile in that regard vs the ATV.

I thought CableMod makes quality products, but this happened.

Just now, I tried to install a Vertical GPU Mount from "CableMod" onto Corsair 275R Case.

I couldn't even install its IO shield backplate into Corsair 275R because its IO shield is so thick!!!
Also, couldn't get EVGA RTX 3080 FTW3 properly inserted into PCIE Riser due to design flaw!!!

The whole thing is flimsy AF!!! geez....what a garbage compare to Lian Li, or Phanteks.

Just Hit the RETURN bottom on AMAZON.

Vertical GPU mounts are hit or miss. Too many variables unless the one is made specifically for your case.

FWIW, I used the Corsair mount with the Corsair 4000D and it was fine. I was liquid cooling it though, so not too sure if it would fit a thicker card like the 3080 FTW3.

Thoughts on a 6700XT vs 6750XT? Worth the price premium?

The 6750XT is basically an overclocked 6700XT.

I'd recommend getting the 6700XT and manually overclocking it if you need more performance assuming you're okay to tinker with it.

Not sure about pricing though or if there are better alternatives. I haven't really been in the loop for a while now.

What do you think of this for $1200. It's used and has been on sale for 2 weeks.

Razor Ramon HG 02-21-2023 12:47 PM
