1) Shit typo, thanks for pointing that out. It's a 560. Obviously a 680 is going to be doing more than 40 fps, I don't know why I didn't pick that up.

2) Guess I should fix that too eh

Edit: Fixed

Hey everyone, quick question here. I just recently upgraded my computer, and everything is working great, but it seems I have to upgrade my windows in order for it to register more ram / play latest games. I currently have windows xp 32x, and am wondering what version of windows should I buy for optimal gaming. Thanks!

Windows 7 Premium x64

dont want to start a new thread, but does anyone know approximately when the asus zenbook ux21A / ux31A is being released in canada?

kind of need a laptop now..but the new specs are just too good

SpuGen 05-13-2012 08:29 AM

I'm running a X58 Board with a i7 920.

Friend of mine wants to buy my computer, and I kinda want a new setup.

Should I go for the 3770k?
Or wait, and go for the next "tick" on the X79?

I also have 2 120gb OCZ Vertex 3 Max iops I want to use...
My board isn't gonna cut it to use them to it's full potential, so I need an upgrade.
Sata6, PCI3.0, USB3.0 preferred.

Any suggestions?

skinnypupp...do you know any reason why reviews never address microstuttering in multi-GPU set-ups? Is it just a lack of standardization for its testing methodology because it only seems to be reported from users end only...

I think before Scott at Tech Report figured out a way to really illustrate it, nobody really knew how to put it down. But now that it's out there, I'm not sure why nobody has adopted it. Maybe because it's much easier just to run the canned benchmark and write down the numbers? Testing this way requires a bit more work. It took me several hours to test these two video cards, and Scott is up for days on end whenever he has to review a new card and re-test several competing models.

So I guess just laziness? IMO if you are aware of this article, there is no excuse not to be testing this way. If anything, it's irresponsible, especially with SLI testing. Just look at the graphs I put up for Witcher 2. EXACT same test, but if you look at the numbers differently, one does a much better job of telling you how a game actually feels when played.

It also explains why I can barely play console games anymore. If a game doesn't run smoothly, IMO it just can't be fun.

Can anyone pick out parts for a new computer? :alonehappy::alonehappy:
I don't know that much about computers, but I have around $600-$700 after taxes to spend on building a new one.
Preferably parts from memory express so I can use their price match thing on every part :lawl:
Would prefer one with a decent/above average sound card
Mainly for gaming, music, browsing in that order.
I already have a monitor, a mouse, speakers, and a keyboard.

Thanks

I am interested if you can compare the Max IOPS with the Mushkin Chronos Deluxe, which uses the same Toshiba toggle flash and SF controller.

I got mine for $199... which is way cheaper.

SkinnyPupp 05-15-2012 07:13 PM

Should be interesting, I'll see what I can do. I haven't reviewed a Mushkin product in probably 10 years lol

asian_XL 05-15-2012 07:28 PM

I think I will get the sandisk in my next build, but wonder what so good about toggle nand or asynchronous nand? I heard a lot of it, but don't know the real world difference.

SkinnyPupp 05-15-2012 07:32 PM

Nothing better or worse, just a different method. It is better than asynchronous since it can read and right in one tick. But so can synchronous. It generally uses less power than synchronous, but is built on 32nm right now so it evens out yet again lol.

^ FYI, crucial m4 and many big brand SSD price has dropped to $999 in HK golden mall.
Agility 3 at $849 and Adata S510 at $799

read to microstutter page...could only understand half of it:okay:
appreciate the explanation though

At those prices I don't think it's worth getting an async drive. Crucial m4 is a beast with the latest firmware. My top recommendation and it's an awesome price

Any noticable difference from say a Agility 3? Or can you only see the difference in benchmarks?

That's the question, isn't it? ;)

quick question about the asus p8z77-v mobo trims (lx/lk/le/le plus/regular/pro/deluxe)...do they all have the same overclocking abilities? all the reviews seem to only be based on pro or the delxue...I just read the voltage regulators differ between trims from 4+1+1 all the way to 16+4 so I am assuming no?

Im looking at the asus V boards because it leaves an upgrade path for thunderbolt in the future...the only integrated ones so far are the Intel DZ77RE-75K and MSI Z77A-GD80 which im assuming is way over my $200 budget

If the voltage regulators are different, then they are pretty much completely different boards, especially in terms of overclocking.

twitchyzero 05-17-2012 09:31 PM

would 12+4 VRM on the V Pro edge out the 8+4+2 VRM on the Sabertooth in terms of overclocking?

ASUS P8Z77-V PRO Motherboard | Hardware Secrets

the sabertooth looks bad ass but I dont want to run into fitment problems when I opt for liquid cooling with that TUF armour getting in the way.

kinda wished the V Pro had eSATA though...and can't believe neither $200 board has bluetooth even though you can buy adapters for under $5 :okay:

also overkill for the V pro to have all 4 display outputs for integrated graphics :rukidding:

SkinnyPupp 05-17-2012 09:36 PM

It depends on the actual hardware they are using. When I review a motherboard, I compare the specs of every component of the VRM, and give a total power delivery overview of the board. Some boards are good for basic overclocking, some are made for record breaking with LN2.

I rarely review Asus boards for whatever reason, is there another site that does thorough reviews? Check those.

The "12+4" and "8+4+2" means little on its own. But generally, the higher the number, the more "spread out" the load is, which means lower temperatures and better durability. Often more capacity too

Thinking of making a budget PC.

Is the A8-3870K a good purchase?
