For NCIX, the G55 is a custom order, so I might go there
This is the first computer I've bought since 2004, so I'm not good with computer stores anymore.
Where can I get a good price? I don't mind paying in cash
Thanks in advance. | Why do you want to buy it locally? There are Canadian distributors if thats what you're worried about. Other than that, your best bet is to customize it yourself (RAM, HDD.. not sure about the screen)..

I want to buy locally so that I can see it in person before getting it.
I was tempted to get the Sager NP9150 with the 7970 video card, but apparently there is keyboard ghosting issues with the laptop - you can't press W, E, and Space at the same time.
The Sager is more powerful and less costly.
I'm undecided now between the Sager and G55, but leaning towards the G55

It's probably not worth getting the 3930K even for $200, unless you plan on running 4 GPUs.

Do you guys know if there's an application out there that will auto-adjust the GPU fan on the fly as the temperatures go up?
When I set it to automatic, it stays at a low RPM. But when I set it to a higher manual speed, it's constant (and fucking loud).
Another guy described the same problem as.. "Like I said, the fan speed can be set manually and works fine. And now apparently I can see that it does ramp up when set to automatic--except it doesn't seem to go up high enough; temperatures reach 90 C and the system shuts down without the fan going past 40%. That's the problem."
Should I just get a new cooler for my video card? What about these? http://ncix.com/products/?sku=15682&...=ZALMAN%20TECH
By the way, I'm doing some minor overclocking, that's why.

I've been using AMD Vision Engine Control Center (which I guess is the new CCC) as well as MSI Afterburner. Is RivaTuner any better since it's outdated?

Not sure, I use Afterburner and it fucking rules. Since it says "Built by RivaTuner" I thought that would be the next best thing. I haven't used RivaTuner since like 2003 I think lol

Anyone using LGA2011 Boards?
Expensive boards... but which one is the best bang for my buck?
won't be doing any OC, running single video card.

@amuro: the best board is the X79-UD3, overclocks like a champ, and super efficient

Decided that I'm going to get the Sager NP9150 with the Radeon 7970 card.
XoticPC has an option for another keyboard and the 7970 is almost twice as fast as the Asus G55 660M video card.

I don't have retail edge... but someone is hooking a brotha up so I can build a new computer for my dad that should be future proof for a good 2-3 years (all he does on it is Flight sim... currently with a Athlon 64 3000+ and a X850GTO

An LGA2011 is probably less future proof than a LGA2055 system
If you are building an X79 system, the term "bang for buck" needs to be nowhere near your brain.

Hmm... i was thinkin of
3930K ($199)
Asus P9X79 Motherboard ($279)
Kingston DDR3-2133 Quad Channel XMP($169)
the rest of the system would be my existing setup
Corsair 60GBx2 Raid 0
500HDD WD Drive
9800 GTX+
Don't remember my PSU
Thought about it again, and i think i rather just go imac instead of doing this...i'd appreciate the display more than the actual performance as i don't use it for much gaming anymore. Oh...i'm also getting a discount on the mac from a friend who works @ apple, so thats another incentive

Hey guys, I am building a RAID array + work station to process/store data from my PhD experiments. I would appreciate any advice regarding my proposed setup, particularly concerning heat/reliability/performance.
Please note that I am not a computer expert, so I want to make sure I am not getting ripped off. My main use for this system will be to store about 12TB (6 + 2TB drives on RAID6) of critical data from my experiments.
Here is a quote that I got this morning. Thanks in advance.
Qty Item Description
1 Fractal Design Define XL Computer Case (Black)
1 180GB Intel® SSD 520 SERIES 2.5" SATA 6Gb/s 25nm
1 LSI 9260-8i Low Profile 8-Port internal 6Gb/s SATA+SAS RAID x8 PCIe 2.0 512MB
1 Samsung Internal 22xDVD-RW SATA Black
4 4GB 1333MHz DDR3 Non-ECC CL9 DIMM
1 PNY GeForce GT 520 1GB 64-bit DDR3 VGA DVI-I Mini HDMI
1 Intel Core i7 3770 - 3.4 GHz - 4 cores - 8 threads - 8 MB cache
