Sorry, didn't feel like reading through that article.
I wouldn't bother with a cache. Although it'll make your overall drives run faster, it really can't compete with an SSD+HDD where you use the SSD as a boot drive. I just think that the SSD is a lot more useful standalone. I'd also avoid things like barracuda xt, since you can buy an SSD+HDD with that price, and if you really want to cache, you still can, and at a price that is a lot cheaper

Using SSD as a boot drive, what else will you put on there? Depends on how big an SSD you can afford. But if it's just a $100 128GB drive, you won't fit much on there. Windows, maybe Office and a few other apps. Then what's your benefit? You can boot Windows really fast, and open those apps fast. Everything that is saved on the HDD will load really slow.

With a cache, everything is cached. All the programs you use the most. So if you open the same 4-5 apps every day (browser, twitter, messenger, photoshop, excel, whatever games you are playing at any given time from your 300GB worth of installs) they will load like they are on an SSD.

Or you could do what I do, have a 256GB SSD as your main Windows and gaming HDD, and have a normal HDD + cache it with another SSD

So it sounds like you're getting video but not able to install drivers. Did you check for the latest ones from nvidia?

yup i tried the ones at nvidia and msi both say they can't detect the hardware.
i actually had it for a second under device manager, but it had an error saying there wasn't enough resources to run it.
after i restarted my computer, it was gone and now it only shows my integrated card

yes i did, and if it helps, it worked for a day before.
except my screen went black for a minute then came back and said my driver stopped working, then an hour later i got BSOD'd and it never detected it again after that
i can hear the sound on windows when i unplug my monitor from my motherboard, but when i plug it into either of the gpu slots, no sound is made when it goes in or when it comes out and both the fans on the gpu are running so i know that it is connected

Those are all valid points but here's the thing. I have iTunes on my ssd and all my songs on my HDD. iTunes loads instantly, and then if i double click, BAM the song plays. The HDD isn't SSD fast, but it IS fast enough for basic things that don't require a boat ton of small files. Things like games and etc are fine on an HDD, since (hopefully) you aren't loading up crysis 2 every day, whereas you turn your computer on everyday, so the added speed helps a lot.

and also why not just go and get a 1tb revodrive

You're testing speeds by playing songs?
Do you know what cache is for?

I know, but I'm just providing a real world example of what might be on your hard drive. Everyday things like songs, videos, etc are perfectly fine running off a HDD. Games won't see much difference with such a small cache anyways, so it's mainly the boot time you're after with a cache which is better on an ssd. People have preferences, just that mine is with an ssd boot

and correct me if I'm wrong, but if you don't care about boot times, you could always just use a ramdisk as a cache instead

Not necessarily, but there may be a heat advantage, and overclocking potential (since you have 2 chances to have a not-so-fast stick instead of 4)

Are you running on quad channel capable mobo? (X79)

The difference is marginal better on quad setup and very app-dependent. But if performance is what you are after, go for quad.
