I am assuming he's on a dual setup otherwise he wouldn't be asking if 2 or 4 sticks makes a difference

For laptops, Nvidia 680M video card came out this week.

Crazy expensive, but 4 gigs of laptop video memory.

I'd say go for quad.

Even though the performance difference is pretty small, but the price difference between 2x8gb vs. 4x4gb is pretty small as well.

The only reason to go for 2x8gb is if you are planning to max-out your memory down the road (say, 4x8gb or 8x8gb). Otherwise, I don't see why not go quad when your system is capable of it.

Cooler Master TPC 812 on sale this week, anyone try it out yet? Personally looking at waiting for the new Eisberg series they're working on.

With that is it also dual channel or how would I know? I'm basically peicing together an old computer and have 3 1gb sticks but I'm asuming I'll still need to be running dual channel or does it depend on the MB? The comp is about 3 years old

Depends on the chipset. It's most like;y dual channel. If you have 3 sticks you might as well use them though, DDR2 is probably old enough to be expensive now.

So will it still pick up on all 3? I guess I can always just stick them in and try, although 2 of the sticks are much higher speed if i remember correctly, so will all sticks run at the lower speed?

And yea, 4gb of DDR2 is like $60 now

Dual channel doesn't HAVE to run in dual mode

Ahhh

Edit* one more thing, the two sticks of the better ram I'm pulling out of another computer came out of a computer that bit the dust, I'm pretty sure it was the power supply but I didn't spend much time trouble shooting it

Is there any risk if the ram I pulled out is bad in puting it in this new rig?

Been reading up on those Korean 27" 2560x1440 IPS monitors the whole week.
Any of you have one?

Ready to pull the trigger over the weekend, or...today!

I was looking into those as well. There's quite a few guys that do them. From what I've read. Haven't pulled the trigger yet. Still deciding as I already have a 26" 1080p LED.

- avoid the glass ones
- many of them have crappy stands; Crossover has the best stand and has a metal housing
- they have no scaler so you can only run the native resolution unless your video card has the ability to do it for you. ie output 1920x1080 and upscale it to 2560x1440 before sending it to the screen
- no OSD so almost everything must be adjusted via software
- pixel perfect ones mean nothing.. can still get dead pixels although at that resolution you might not even notice

Hah! Thanks !MiKrofT. I already know about all that and I am planning to get the basic Catleap model. I like that model the best because it looks like it has the thinnest and most plain bezel. As for those crappy stands, I'm looking to get a monoprice desk stand so that should take care of the stand issue. Plus, I've read that even the Crossover's stand is not worth the extra price.

I'm mainly looking if any of you are you using it and how you like them.
If I do get one I'll make sure to post back with pictures

^Ahh I see. Yeah I doubt most here ppl know much about or have these screens. My only concern is the scaler and monitor adjustments.

A motherboard with good fan control software. Asus Crossfire (AMD) and Rampage (Intel) are the best for this.

If so you can set it up on the software side.
