If you want your fans to be controlled by temperature, you need a fan controller. Your motherboard has that function built in, so you can use that. Or get a third party controller. Even a manual knob that you can turn up and down would suffice.

Hey guys I am a noobie when it comes to building a gaming computer, so I did a bit of research and asked a couple friends and this is what we came up with.

- Antec 100 One Hundred Lite Mid-Tower ATX Gaming Case Black

- ASUS Radeon HD 6850 DirectCU 790MHZ 1GB 4.0GHZ GDDR5 2xDVI DisplayPort HDMI PCI-E Video Card

- Kingston KHX1600C9D3B1K2/8GX 8GB Kit 2X4GB 1600MHz DDR3 240PIN DIMM Unbuff Hmp HyperX CL9

- Corsair TX650 V2 650W ATX 12V Single Rail 53A 24PIN ATX Power Supply Active PFC 80PLUS Bronze

- Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB SATA3 6GB/S 7200RPM 64MB Cache 3.5IN Dual Proc Hard Drive

- NCIX Bundle Deal Intel Core i5 3570K Unlocked Quad Core CPU & Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD3H Motherboard

Please let me know how this build is for gaming, and if there are any parts I should switch out. My budget is about 8-1000. Just copy and pasted all the parts from NCIX lol.

It will be noticeably faster. RAID0 is faster than a single drive, but still not as fast as an SSD cached drive.

Get a 128 GB when it goes on sale, and use it as a 64 GB cache. Or just get a 64GB Crucial M4. It won't be as fast as a 128GB but almost. That is assuming you have an Intel Z68 or Z77 chipset. If not, you'll need something like the Crucial Adrenaline.

HELP!!!

Just finished my system, but for whatever reason it fails to boot in Triple Channel or Quad Channel memory mode (by fail to boot... no picture, just turn on for 10 seconds, off, back on, cycle

I have 4 sticks of this stuff Mushkin Enhanced Silverline Stiletto 16GB 4X4GB PC3-10666 DDR3-1333 9-9-9-28 Quad Channel Memory Kit - Mushkin Enhanced - 993770

Put into slots 1,3,5,7 (per MB instructions), no boot, just turns on for 10 seconds and shuts off.

Put into slots 1,3 (just 2 sticks - dual channel setup), boot perfect
Put into slots 1,3,5 (MB instructions for triple channel), no boot, same as above

Put into slots 1,2,3,4 (dual channel setup), boots fine.

Put into slots 1,5 (dual) boots fine

I'm thinking faulty MB? In compatible/faulty RAM?

CPU: 3930K
MB: MSI X79A-GD45 (8D) MSI X79A-GD45 (8D) X79 ATX LGA2011 DDR3 5PCI-E16 1PCI-E1 SATA3 USB3.0 SLI CrossFireX Motherboard - MSI/MicroStar - X79A-GD45 (8D)
Edit: Updated BIOS to latest version - still a no-go

Have you tried with a different set of ram? I have had those rare occasions where the mobo was simply too picky on ram. After switching a set, everything ran just fine.

^ my ram is actually listed as certified to work with the board as per MSI's website...

I'll give that a shot though - the ram is in a snap packaging and should be easy enough to return. (but NCIX Return policy is balls sometimes)

do you think I should just exchange for the same set, or should I go with something else completely?

What I usually do is to *borrow* a set of different brand with lower CAS rating or higher speed rating from my friend to test.

usually mobo has problem with ram because the ram in question can't run at default setting correctly. Performance ram OTOH tend to have more tolerance toward different settings.

I'm mainly pointing to ram because I have very rarely come across a faulty mobo. And if a mobo is to have problem, it wouldn't work in any setting.

These days, every set of RAM works with every board, because in reality, theres really only 18 different types of RAM, just all rebranded

Did that... all sticks boot.
Also ran memtest on them last night and they all checked out fine.

Called up Intel tech support this morning and they said it doesn't sound like the MB but could either be a faulty CPU, or RAM conflicting with the CPU's memory controller... (apparently I'm not the only one to call about this issue? )

oh well, buddy needs some DDR3 for his build anyways, so I guess I'll just try it out with some new ram...

I've actually never heard of incompatible ram before...unless mac

You tried all the slots on the mobo one at a time?

Incompatible ram is not uncommon btw

tried all the primary slots...

BTW: got it to kick into triple channel last night after playing with it for a while.... I'm starting to think more and more that the ram is acting up.
Quad channel is still a no-go.

Triple Channel worked ONLY when I used DIMM 1,2,3,7 or 1,3,5,6, but not 1,3,4,7, or 1,3,5... didn't try other combos since it was too much pushing and pulling for one night... and wanted to wait for new ram before I started screwing around more

for the compatibility issue... with your testing experience have you seen a problem like mine where it just refuses to start under certain channels?
