Yup, came too late for me to have a review on launch day unfortunately. But other good reviews will be up now. I recommend AMD FX-8150 Processor Review - Can Bulldozer Unearth an AMD Victory? | PC Perspective

hey guys so i just switched over my "TPU" switch as an experiment, when i opened my case it was actually already "enabled" so i disabled it

my clock speed when i right click my computer-properties is exactly the same as when it was enable as when its disabled, does the actual clock speed listed on the my computer write-up change when your overclocked?

Best way to find your true clock speed is CPU-Z. Be sure to load your processor with Prime95 to get a true reading of load speed (as opposed to idle speed)

Ouch. Bulldozer doesn't seem to be what people were hoping for. A little disapppointing for
me.

All you need to know about BD, short and sweet:

Quote:
"We won't deny it, we really were hoping for a lot more from Bulldozer and AMD's eight-core processors. It's disappointing to find these newly launched processors do little to improve AMD’s situation. The FX processors come short of competing hand to hand with the now 9-months old Sandy Bridge processors, and in certain instances surpass their own Phenom II range."
Bulldozer Arrives: AMD FX-8150 Review > Final Thoughts - TechSpot Reviews

Let's not forget:

-first gen stigma, I remember being the first to own Phenom 9500 (false QVLs, performance bugs, etc)
-$$$$$$$$
-insane power consumption

so in CPU-Z right now it shows my "spec" as the typical i7 2600k @ 3.40GHZ:

for your budget go for a 120hz monitor...if not an e-IPS panel that has significantly better colour reproduction

I'm just testing to see whether this TPU switch on the mb actually changes my clock speeds when enabled or disabled as it promises the auto optimization or whatever

Bus speed x Multiplier = CPU speed

1648.5 MHz is your idle speed.

What you want to do is run prime95 and see what your cpu speed is at max load.

Then turn on the TPU switch and run prime 95 and see what your speed is at max load.

Compare the 2 and see if improvement.

TPU switch is the 'i am a noob at overclocking do it for me' switch. Learn how to manual overclock for getting more out of your cpu.

overclocking is basically configuring your bus speed and multiplier to get a higher cpu speed.

lol so i had the TPU switch in the "on" position when i thought i had turned it off

went to run Prime95 and at the 50% run i had my Core Speed at 4XXX mhz and multiplier at X 48

seconds later BSOD lol... nice overclocking feature..

run 45x multiplier and try 1.3v -1.35v and see if its stable. You should be able to get 4.5Ghz easy without adjusting other settings.

No budget really just need something that I can be set with keeping for a couple years+ but I likely won't be over clocking so I won't need any special features for that I was looking at this asus z86? Cuz I liked those blue wave heatsinks on them lol but I don't know what's overdoing it or what's insufficient

If you're not overclocking, you don't need an overclocker board, which will have 12+ phase power supplies, etc. All you need is a good 4 phase board with decent parts. IE any Gigabyte Z68. The one I reviewed last week is a great example of a mainstream Z68 board, although has some flaws worth mentioning.

Same, I've barely tweaked mine to run @ 4.1Ghz, too lazy to bother further for now. I also got mine from Intel RetailEdge.

Usually, i m doing 4.5ghz @ 1.275v for gaming or regular usage.

Looking to buy a new computer in the $1600 range. I was hoping to get the new AMD processors, but they seem like a big disappointment.

The computer will be used for professional 3D work and massive amounts of BF3.

CPU: Intel Core i7 950 Quad Core
Cooling: Noctua NH-C12P Fan
MOBO: ASUS Sabertooth X58
RAM: 8GB (4x2GB) G.SKILL F3-10666CL7D-4GBECO
GPU: AMD Radeon HD 6950
CASE: Corsair Graphite Series 600T
PSU: Corsair Professional Series HX1050

$1499 at NCIX.

Tips/ suggestions?
