if i get a better cooler like the nh-d14 over my current 212+, would i be able to keep the same clock at a lower voltage and be stable?

In my experience a better cooler will only get you lower temps, which is good for the cpu, or let you o/c a bit higher. Won't or shouldn't affect how well your oc scales with voltage, that's more on luck with how good of a chip you've gotten.

How did you get your temps down? Thought they were hitting 90+ or was that someone else?

Man I'd love a d14 but I can't help but feel it's going to snap my board in half =.= That, and I don't need a better cooler yet.

J.C 07-02-2012 02:10 AM

yeah that was me, i switched over to aida64 from prime and the temps were much lower
apparently you weren't supposed to use prime95 with ivy bridge cpu's anyways

i'm planning to get a d14, but do you think i can switch the 2 noctuas out for 2 of my gentle typhoons and use the noctuas as case fans?

i don't think my chip is that good or i'm doing something wrong

for 4.4ghz i need 1.26vcore -> 4.5ghz 1.305vcore -> 4.6ghz 1.365vcore -> and 4.7 wasn't stable even at 1.4vcore
a lot of people have been getting 4.8ghz+ with 1.4

get another 8-12GB of RAM, 7870 or gtx 660 when they come out this month, and maybe a SSD if you have money to spare and that will serve you well for another 2-3 years (assuming you dont play at resolutions above 1920x1200)

no need to dump $1000+

The Radeon 7950 is only 30-$50 dollars more then the 7870... Thinking that is the better route to go?

What would be better? http://www.ncix.com/products/?sku=71...y&promoid=1382 or http://www.ncix.com/products/?sku=67546&promoid=1223

I dont mind spending the extra $40 if the 670 kills the 7870..
..
Also I have the following Motherboard... http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...82E16813128412

Can I put in 1600mhz ram? manual says DDR 2200/1333/1066/800 but I have 1600mhz ram already in the thing... Looking at adding this http://www.ncix.com/products/?sku=57...l&promoid=1223 or http://www.ncix.com/products/?sku=44...l&promoid=1223

not sure the difference but under the compatability list it shows the P55A mobo

twitchyzero 07-02-2012 11:41 AM

if your mobo already has DDR3-1600 then it shouldn't have any compat issues
7950 has a great overclocking potential but even at that the GTX670 is pretty much a clear winner.
BTW there's a MSI one that's $50 cheaper than your galaxy one...smaller factory OC but great deal.
MSI N670GTX OC GeForce GTX 670 2GB PCI-E w/ Dual DVI, HDMI, DisplayPort at Memory Express

In addition, any recommendations for a graphics card under $50?

Since SSD's are most reliable,
I think NCIX has corsair GT series 120gb for $85. Which is what I'm using and it's great.

what is a good memory test to run? need to check on my ram with some boot issues

ddr 07-02-2012 03:13 PM

i've always just used memtest86+

Verdasco 07-02-2012 03:37 PM

i had boot issues with my old ram and appearantly, it was not compatible with my motherboard. I had to overclock the ram + voltages for it in order to work. used memtest 86 and no errors, thus no reboots :D

twitchyzero 07-02-2012 04:04 PM

noob question
what's the best way to run surround triple 1080p monitors all in landscape?

all connectors to 1st card or 1 DVI to 1st card and 2 DVI to 2nd card?

My 3rd monitor still on the way so cannot test it out yet...so if it's the former I'll have to buy a displayport cable or DVI to HDMI

J.C 07-02-2012 06:59 PM

got my d14 in today
its super big, you can see it almost covers my ram
4 ap-15s, 1 nf-p12, 1 nf-p14 and it's actually pretty quiet
now the only thing left is an ssd and i'm done :D
also used ic diamond thermal compound
together, my load temps dropped around 10 degrees on load over the 212+ with 2 ap-15s in push/pull

LuHua 07-03-2012 11:42 AM

Nice! How would you say the D14 compares to the 212 in terms of weight? Does it seem like it's stressing the motherboard?

J.C 07-03-2012 02:04 PM

feels around double the weight, doesn't seem like its stressing mb

lilaznviper 07-03-2012 05:00 PM

my watercooling list
swiftech Apogee HD CPU Block
swiftech MCRx20-XP triple rad
swiftech MCP655 water pump
swiftech MCRES Micro Rev2 Reservoir

Anyone with water cooling experience can let me know which compression fittings i need to get to work with all this as well as the tubing... i don't get the measurements that shows on the tubing and fittings.:okay:

Anyone know where i can get this stuff locally... i know ncix doesn't stock some of these parts...

havn't decided on video card as i will be switching the current crossfire 6950 cards

Hondaracer 07-03-2012 05:10 PM

the brackets included with the D14 hold it in there so secure, i didnt have any concerns at all when installing it, didnt even think of taking the weight into account actually

belaud 07-03-2012 05:57 PM

D14. :fuckthatshit:

J.C 07-03-2012 06:34 PM

i saw you in esther's vid

makes the d14 look like a pussy cooler

LuHua 07-03-2012 08:21 PM

That cooler...wtf?! You can't even reach your motherboard with that in place ahaha...

Just wondering though, anyone here work with the xspc rasa kits before? For the price it looks like it's worth it. The other's the Switftech kits that're double the price...

twitchyzero 07-03-2012 09:07 PM

had to look that up
1.5kg?
won't that mess up your mobo over time

CPU heatsink nowadays are fucking hideous... all because of the stupid heatpipe. :fuckthatshit:

They should develop minimalist watercooling instead if the CPU are generating too much heat for air-based heatsink to handle.

J.C 07-04-2012 11:55 AM

lol i think i applied my thermal paste improperly
im getting 33, 37, 25, 20 on my cores on idle
is it normal to have such a big temperature difference

LuHua 07-04-2012 11:59 AM

Might be the system putting the load on only 1 or 2 cores, check your task manager and see the load on the graphs.

J.C 07-04-2012 12:44 PM

even at full load they're 56,59,51,45

LuHua 07-04-2012 01:24 PM

You MIGHT have missed a spot with the TIM, or maybe it's not evenly spread, but there shouldn't be an issue. Core temps usually vary a bit anyways, and you're in a safe range.
