CPU: Intel Core i7 950 Quad Core
Cooling: Noctua NH-C12P Fan
MOBO: ASUS Sabertooth X58
RAM: 8GB (4x2GB) G.SKILL F3-10666CL7D-4GBECO
GPU: AMD Radeon HD 6950
CASE: Corsair Graphite Series 600T
PSU: Corsair Professional Series HX1050

$1499 at NCIX.

Tips/ suggestions?

Ram is so cheap now....I regret I didn't maximize the ram...lol
Also, I think X79 is coming soon.

Why would u want a Nehalem when the i7-2600k is better?
also, you need 3 sticks of ram for X58 platform

Heya.

Just looking to build a new tower and I'm looking to spend about $2500.

CPU: Intel Core i7 960 Quad Core Processor LGA1366 3.2GHZ Bloomfield 8MB LGA1366 4.8GT/S Retail Box
Cooling: Corsair Cooling Hydro Series H100 Extreme Performance CPU Cooler System LGA775 1366 1156 AM2 AM3
MOBO: ASUS Rampage III Formula Rog X58 DDR3 ATX LGA1366 3PCI-E16 X-FI Motherboard
RAM: Corsair Dominator GT 12GB 3X4GB DDR3-2000 CL9-10-9-27 Intel XMP Triple Channel Memory Kit W/ Fan
GPU: 2x - EVGA GeForce GTX 570 HD Fermi 732MHZ 1280MB GDDR5 2XDVI HDMI DisplayPort PCI-E Video Card
CASE: Corsair Obsidian Series 800D Full Tower Case EATX 5X5.25 4X3.5 Hotswappable 2X3.5INT No PS USB 1394
PSU: Antec Truepower Quattro 1200W Power Supply ATX V2.2 EPS12V 20/24PIN Active PFC 80PLUS 2X8PIN PCI-E
HDD: Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB SATA3 6GB/S 7200RPM 64MB Cache 3.5IN Dual Proc Hard Drive OEM
SSD: Intel 320 Series GEN3 120GB 2.5IN SSD SATA2 Solid State Disk Flash Drive Retail W/ Bracket

Total comes up to be $2600ish at NCIX with price matches.

How are the choices that I'm making? Any parts I can replace with something else to get better bang for the buck?

Thanks in advance. :concentrate:

EDIT: What was the fail for? This is truly a legit question and I haven't built a new tower in ages.

also sabertooth x58 ram is try channel. so u should get 2gb 2gb 2gb 2gb 2gb 2gb = 12gb.

i have a similar setup with a sabertooth, i7 960, gtx 460 and i built mine from scratch in april and it was 1000$ taxes included. with a 750 psu which was enough so unless u plan to get crossfire/sli i think 1050 is overkill?

why not sandybridge?

noTirl 10-14-2011 07:29 AM

for those of you that are planning to build a computer you guys should give memory express a try. they do a 5% price beat and so far ive had excellent service with them.

Hondaracer 10-14-2011 07:33 AM

If you walk into Ncix with your build and write a bunch of prices beside their prices regardless of whether your found them or not they will give you the lowest price they can on every component

Please don't buy that. Everything you had mentioned can be replaced. Good thing you came into this thread :)

CPU: $200-$300 Core i5 2500k or i7 2600k. Price/Performance the 2500k is better. +$100 you get Hyperthreading + 2MB L3 Cache which is hardly noticeable unless you do 3d rendering, video encoding...etc you would have benefit from HT. X58 LGA1366 is almost 3 years old and X79 chipset LGA2011 is almost released. Either wait for that or go with the above.

COOLING: $100 H100 is good as I use one myself.

MOBO: $200-$350 ASUS P8Z68-V Pro Z68 LGA1155 (NOT GEN3. Should be releasing soon) or MSI Z68A-GD80 (GEN 3) Z68 or ASUS Maximus IV EXTREME-Z Rog LGA1155 Z68

RAM: $60 Corsair CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9 Vengeance 8GB 2X4GB DDR3-1600 CL9-9-9-24 Dual Channel Memory Kit (I use this and like it)

GPU: $500 2x Radeon 6950's FLASHED TO 6970's

CASE: $150-$200 Corsair 800D is a beautiful case, albeit not meant for air cooling. I have a 650D myself. If you are looking for full tower, take a look at the "Cooler Master Haf 932 Advanced Full Tower EATX Case ". I can't stand tacky LED's but really good bang for your buck.

PSU: $275 Corsair Professional Series Gold CMPSU-1200AX 1200W ATX Fully Modular 80PLUS Gold Power Supply

HDD: $80 WD blacks are awesome.

SSD: $210 Get something like 2x 60gb and run it in RAID0. Mobo's now feature "Intel Smart Response Technology" but I never tried it before so I stick to my RAID0 setup.

Total of $1775-2075 *without taxes*

This leaves you around $800 to play with if you were to get the setup you had first chosen.

Throw in a nice sound card, quieter fans, keyboard, mouse, monitors...etc

Keep in mind that the new X79 chipset and socket LGA2011 are nearing. That means new motherboards + new CPU's.

If I were you I would prob buy a cheaper mobo + i5 2500k and upgrade when Ivy Bridge releases in April/May 2012.

Sweet. Thanks for the wicked heads up. I'll look into it more!

Looking to upgrade my desktop just enough to play bf3 on high settings, Wanting to spend about $800.
Current specs:
Ati Radeon HD5450
i3 530
6GB ram
Thanks!

Culverin 10-14-2011 02:33 PM

6gb of ram is enough.

But you're going to have to toss that video card and processor.
Not sure what mobo you have right now, but hoping it'll be able to strap in an i5-2500k and like an ATI6950.

It's not going to cost you $800, $700 tops, tax in, probably even less.

Z68 mobo
i5 2500k
Corsair A70 heatsink (on sale for $30 right now can't go wrong),
your 6gb ram won't work as z68 boards are dual channel memory. RAM is cheap less than <$60 for 8GB.
2x radeon 6870's in crossfire.

Around $800 right there

Nope. It's just straight 25% of the difference now:

Uber Price Beat Guarantee in Canada at Memory Express

lol you gotta go in person to get it (was just there 3 weeks ago)

and i believe there is a giant banner/poster on the outside of their store that says 5% pricebeat (can see if you drive along #3 road)

Ikkaku 10-14-2011 05:55 PM

bought some g.skill snipers ddr3 2x4gb for 41.xx tax in thanks to price matching newegg last week (PM'ed at Memory Express).

their normal price is 49.99 which still isn't too bad for 8gb. And if you care about aesthetics, these look pretty good as well!

That's not what the website says:
http://www.memoryexpress.com/Images/.../up_Header.png

Bullet #2 above.

AND in their How it works:

Step #2:
Visit your local memoryexpress retail store and provide proof of the lower advertised price.

or Visit memoryexpress.com and order online... In the order comments field enter the website URL and price for the desired price beat then place your order.

I was just there a week ago. Didn't notice a banner. Or I wasn't really paying attention. lol.

twitchyzero 10-14-2011 07:17 PM

i'm pretty sure reference 6950's that can be flashed are long gone

noTirl 10-14-2011 07:37 PM

its not advertised on the site but go in person

anybody else have the asus p8p67 rev 3 board?

my first one was plagued with usb issues, usb peripherals worked fine, any keyboard, mouse, printer, logitech gt wheel......... BUT anything usb plugged with storage would be fried.
eg...flash drives and 2 of my iphone 4's bricked ......:okay:
now my tablet and dslr wont connect to any PC or mac, but thankfully both still work

Ive done the bios updates, nothing would fix the problem, returned it to ncix and
got new p8p67 board, everything works fine except now but the usb 2.0 ports dont work (case AND rear ports), only the usb 3.0 works. I'm sick to my stomach, im tired of running back and forth to ncix for exchanges. And they wouldn't honour the damages the previous board caused either.....

FML
stay away from this board

Hondaracer 10-17-2011 07:48 AM

Any recomendations on an aftermarket cooler?

How are those corsair dual fan radiator ones?
