my rig i5 2500k is clocked at 4.8ghz running the Corsair H80... under full load (using prime95), it stays under 70c

why dont you get a small desktop fan and place it on the ledge pointing at the side intake.. would be same effect..

I would suggest opening the side panel.. with rain coming down this week...

ddr 10-13-2012 09:48 PM

for cases that are well thought out, opening the side panel is actually worse for thermals because it's no longer efficient in intake and exhaust

i've been waiting for this to come out since march...great entry for noobs like myself into custom water cooling

only 1 comparsion review is out...4 degrees cooler than h100 during load
http://www.overclock.net/content/type/61/id/1087141/
but with more reviews i'm suspecting it's closer to 10 degrees as they previously claimed

$160 retail though...c'mon $99 memory express blackfriday/cyber monday fire sale :alonehappy:

belaud 10-14-2012 08:59 PM

Oh god.... that thing :ohgodwhy:

twitchyzero 10-15-2012 09:35 AM

what's wrong with it? You can even add your own coolant, tubing, rad not to mention it's all copper.

OGCStrike 10-15-2012 06:18 PM

my build is decent considering i reused some parts from my old computer...

Case : BitFenix Shinobi Window White
Processor : AMD phenom 960T ( OC'ed to 4.2ghz )
Heatsink : Corsair A70
Motherboard : MSI 990FXA-GD65 V2 ATX AM3+
RAM : 8 GB Kingston Hyper Blue 4x 2GB
SSD : Kingston SSDNow V200 128GB 2.5IN
PS : 1000W OCZ Z series ( might be overkill now, but im just future proofing my build :D, i got this real cheap off NCIX too !! )
Graphics : Asus 9600GT Geforce ( yes i know, its pretty pathetic... but at least it can run starcraft II on ultra until theres some super clusterfck :okay:)

anyone using a MSI Radeon HD 7850 PE here? im planning to get it =O

twitchyzero 10-15-2012 10:55 PM

if you like bold looking full towers...there's the new phantom
i like how you can take the top completely off...look how many rubber grommet it has inside lol
too expensive though...i'd say spending over $150 is kinda overkill and could be used in the GPU dept instead

AMD Trinity Review - AMD vs Intel - A10 5800K vs Core i3 3220

Makes for a GREAT htpc build IMO (this is from someone who had been using a Llano for quite a while)

BaoTurbo 10-20-2012 06:07 PM

Which 200mm fan is best for pushing air and silent? I found many online that having it more silent will mean that the RPM's will be lower but it could also mean its pushing more air to accomodate that less RPM ratio. Right now I bought and installed 2 double bearing gentle scythe tycoons 120mm in the front and back panel. Enough?

J.C 10-21-2012 12:56 AM

lol some guy in a ml63 bought like half the store at the ncix warehouse sale

TjAlmeida 10-21-2012 07:35 PM

not exactly about towers, but looking to purchase a good head set.

Any recommendations?

I'm leaning towards the logitech g930. Purposes are for gaming.

twitchyzero 10-21-2012 08:05 PM

i own that set...surround works really great (especially in Source games and BF3)
I use it 99% for gaming though...it's pretty meh for music
once you go wireless you can't go back though and it's sacrifice i'm willing to make...i can go downstairs and out to the patio and still get signal.

audiophiles will tell you to buy real headphones with a clip on mic.

I've been itching to get a new computer and replace my aging hardware, but I just can't justify it. Computers are so powerful these days, no matter how much you throw at it barely makes a dent in resource usage.

Running 3 firefox windows each with couple tabs loading flash content, several IDEs, a game in background, skype, steam, a virtual machine, and 64 background process. Still have 18gb of ram free :fuckthatshit:

Guess it's good to save money:okay:

AMD Piledriver FX Review - FX 8350, 8320, 6300 vs Intel Core i5 and i3

AMD is legit once again, although at the cost of higher power consumption. Still worthy of consideration IMO

twitchyzero 10-22-2012 09:02 PM

my last AMD CPU was the Athlon XP 1.3GHz from 2001
I was considering going back after the much-delayed Bulldozer was supposed to put them back in the game...boy I was wrong.

SkinnyPupp 10-22-2012 10:39 PM

Bulldozer was bad, Piledriver puts them above intel in each price range. As long as you don't mind the power consumption

Nice detailed review. Currently running on a Athlon II x3 440 and was tempted in jumping over to intel to get the i5 3570k. With Piledriver, I can just buy the cpu and save $$ on getting a new mobo. :fullofwin:

Seems like there is hope for AMD still... I chose AMD over Intel before because they provided the best bang for buck, and I'm glad they are continuing this route. Intel probably has a secret weapon prepared though..

SkinnyPupp 10-23-2012 04:41 AM

Intel has Haswel, which is a whole new architecture so will be bigger than the leap from Sandy Bridge to Ivy Bridge. The IGP in particular is supposed to be very good. It won't be out for at least half a year though.

twitchyzero 10-23-2012 10:19 AM

I hope AMD stays competitive in the desktop CPU because Intel is soon changing its focus

cheap TIM on Ivy Bridge...rumors of extending tick-tock periods...supposedly meh performance going forward with Haswell and instead will focus on the graphics department to boost its mobile arm.

I'd argue since Nehalem 1st gen Core i7s we haven't gotten big boosts in CPU peformance

FerrariEnzo 10-23-2012 12:14 PM

the new APUs from AMD are nice.. cheap all in one for daily use... drop in a dedicated GFX for a hybrid CrossFire..

q0192837465 10-23-2012 01:34 PM

I just bought a a50 heat sink from ncix and I'm trying to mount it. I'm kinda confused. Which direction should the fan be pointing for optimal cooling?

Everyone interested in overclocking needs to watch this video

Very few hardware sites take VRM into consideration. But it's easily the most important part of a motherboard. Be sure you know what you're getting into, because many of them lie (calling analog PWMs digital) or are downright dangerous (MSI motherboards catching on fire a few years ago)

LuHua 10-24-2012 11:02 PM

Thanks for that vid, I only did some overclock runs just for fun, but it's nice to learn a bit more about the features on my motherboard. Still don't know what most of the options in the bios menus are.
