The Corsair SP 120s are pretty beast... I installed 2 on my hyper 212 evo in push/pull config and my idle temps are 20-24 degrees and 100% load has peaked at 45-50 degrees and on top of that it looks sexy. Only con to it is that they're pretty loud but apparently quieter than the Noctua NF-F12
Just finished building my new budget rig. Idling at 30-33 degrees with Hyper 212+ push/pull config with my window wide open with window closed it's around 40 degrees.
When I start up my comp the boot screen is in a very low resolution including bios until windows log in screen pops up it goes back to 1080p
Anybody have a fix to this? I'm guessing its my monitor

My old laptop (1.5 year old) has been running hot as hell lately... i've no idea why im not even doing anything except using word on it, there's nothing running in the background either
but the moment i turn it on the fan starts blowing at max speed and it gets hot -_-

Use a can of compressed air and clean out the vents. See if that works.

Hey SP, how do you feel about the GPU performance in the upcoming Haswell chips?
I went from an Intel 945 to an Intel 4000 in terms of integrated graphics, and the difference was outrageous. Now I've done some research on Haswell and it seems like the performance gain between IB and HW is going to be quite significant as well?
As a casual gamer, I am pretty excited to see how the performance is going to be with ULV chips. The 4000 already meets my expectations, but better performance is always welcomed.

Every time Intel intros a new GPU, they hype it up with how it is "2x faster" than the current one or whatever... but in the end, they have all ended up being pretty useless in real games.
I don't think Haswell will have performance viable for gaming at 720p and above, but Broadwell might. We'll have to wait and see though

i was wondering if maybe the video drivers or something software/fw wise may have been causing an issue :/
thanks guys
so the reason i wondered why it may be updates/drivers/fw whatever is windows has been trying to update my computer a tonne recently but failing every time it attempted to apply changes (a lot of people have had issues but none of the suggestions worked for fixing it)
also my video card recently had an update installed
anyway i took my laptops bottom off just now to clean out the dust and there really wasn't any it was basically clean
after i put it back together and turned it on, windows attempted to apply updates again and this time it succeeded! and after doing so it spent a good 5mins "cleaning up" (never seen that i guess its new to windows 8 updates??)
and when the computer finally rebooted the fan wasn't on full power as usual of late and its been running about a half hour now and not getting hot nor has the fan gone full power
sooo, either the quick brushing/blowing of dust fixed it or windows' success at applying the updates was the cure im leaning towards the latter because honestly there's more dust on my fingers than what was in the case
Is it even worth upgrading my PC
AMD Phenom 2 X6 1055t 2.8GG (OC to 3.4 currently)
16GB of RAM
AMD 6950 2gb VIDEO card.
Got the PC about 2 years ago.
or is it better to build a new I7PC?
My previous PC with X4 925, 4GB of RAM and 5850 could still play most games in High Settings. It really depends on what you use the PC for, the only reason for me to upgrade was that the 7-year-old single-core AMD machine that I gave my wife died (I suspect it was the mobo) and I want to get an i7 for 720p/1080p live streaming while I play games. So I ended up getting the 3770k and gave her the 925 and both machines are now running SSD which will not need another upgrade until the components die (or in my case, when the 5850 can't handle modern games anymore and I need to get a new card).
If your computer can handle the games/applications you play/use, there is really no need to upgrade.

Ezekiel 25:17. The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of the darkness. For he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know I am the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon you.
Asus's PCE-N10 is an absolute piece of junk. Tried the Asus driver, the Realtek driver and HP's driver, none of them raised connection speeds beyond an average of 5mbps. I'm paying for 25mbps and that's what LAN speeds I get on my other desktop
