You'd need to invest at least $350 in it to get it marginally playable, so I felt that a console if you don't have one already might be more enjoyable for you. :) especially since ps3 and xbox getting so much cheaper now.

so i have to get a new laptop (cousin and i broke my laptop accidentally)

was going to stick with Vaio but then i read about "Sager" gaming laptops

anyone ever heard of them or have one?

price is just a couple hundred more than the laptop i was thinking about

but whats more important for me is build quality / customer service

any ideas?

Too bad he needs it right away, UltraBooks are going to be The Next Big Thing.

UltraBook is a spec defined by Intel where the laptop must be 20mm thick at most, 3 lbs max, powerful, 5-8 hours of battery life, use SSD, and cost under $1000 for a mainstream model. Basically, MacBook Air killers

Maybe they have started to come out, look around... some models are Acer 3951, Asus UX21, UX31, Levovo U300S, Toshiba Z830. Should all be around $1000. I'd go for the UX31 since it is the only one with a high resolution.

!MiKrofT 10-20-2011 10:34 AM

Ultrabooks aren't available here yet. Asus will probably be the first as they're available for pre-order from ME. Looks good but StylinRed looks like he wants a gaming laptop in which Ultrabooks are not.

SkinnyPupp 10-20-2011 11:09 AM

Maybe, but if you start playing around with a high res ultrabook, you'll be like :fuckthatshit: to gaming laptops :)

Even the Macbook Air is cool, and it has shit res, zero expansion capability (on a LAPTOP) and a crappy OS.

u seen them in hk yet?

I wanna get one!

Samsung 900-series are technically ultrabooks when one looks at the lower spec model with 4gb RAM and 128GB SSD. PC version of MBA basically.

im not into the whole super thin/light thing

i like having my bdr optical drive etc ;) or id have gotten a vaio z

thin + gaming performance + optical drive would be nice though :)

ddr 10-20-2011 04:34 PM

what do you guys think of this laptop (review)? seems to be a literally solid choice if one can find the right coupons on RFD.

Hondaracer 10-20-2011 05:23 PM

The Vaio z's are pimp

My whole family has Vaio notebooks, some of the most reliable computers I've ever used.

yeah ive been using them since i got rid of my HP went through 2 of them though due to smashing my screens -_-

but i noticed that dell/sager offer better video cards with similar pricing

fs604 10-20-2011 09:15 PM

I'm also looking into buying a 17" gaming laptop. After some research, i've concluded that the only viable brands are sager(np8170), msi(gt780r) or asus(g74sx). I'm leaning towards sager right now and most people recomment it over all the others.

Edit* just ordered a sager but its only the 8130(15" version) :okay: Still 1080p but lighter so its all good.

ME got their shipment of Ultrabooks (Asus UX) in yesterday. I was in-store buying a video card when the cart literally rolled in front of me and some employees were like "OMGULTRABOOKS"

.Renn.Sport 10-20-2011 11:24 PM

looks like I don't need to buy an ultrabook now!

my friend just got me a mid end VAIO Z for $1000 USD, same model retails for 2600USD. since he works at Sony R&D, he can pretty much built me anything at cost. The only catch is that none of these have a serial number or windows. he can even do a clean install with only factory drivers as long as I can provide him with a legit windows key.

He could only build one unit for himself a month. He promised me he will make me the top of the line Z next month!!

twitchyzero 10-21-2011 12:59 AM

is that triple quad-memory set-up?

so is that 48GB ram max? :fulloffuck:

!MiKrofT 10-21-2011 01:00 AM

What the shit? I was just there today. I didn't see no ultrabook. I was thinking about getting the 11.6" one.

I did pickup an ocz agility 3. Glad they finally released firmware to fix the bsod issues.

woob 10-21-2011 06:30 AM

Maybe they haven't logged/tagged them yet and they are just sitting in the back, or something. In any case, I'm sure they will be on the sales floor soon.

!MiKrofT 10-21-2011 02:57 PM

Sweet. I'll wait for reviews to come out online. I just wish they were a bit cheaper.

twitchyzero 10-21-2011 04:58 PM

has anyone considered going with tri-monitor 1080p all in landscape set-up?

I may be able to get screens for cheap but I am wondering just how much video card power one would need to play high settings (not ultra) on BF3 @ 5760x1080...have to wait for it to get benched first i guess

someone claimed 40 fps with overclocked 6970 in CF on alpha trial (he does only have 4GB ram though)

Battlefield 3 Eyefinity Gameplay HD - Triple Screen - YouTube

I would think at least 2xGTX580 or 2x6970's. Better if you have GTX590's or 6990's running CF/SLI. Or a Tri-SLI config. :D

i was about to go with the sager myself

but i checked out vaio once again and realized that i have enough points to redeem for one :fullofwin:

roastpuff 10-21-2011 07:41 PM

We just got the new Vaio Z. OMG IT'S SO DAMN AMAZING.

If only it didn't cost so much. :(
