Man, all those AIO rigs, I can't wait 'till my H220 comes in. Anyone know if there's a water block for the Gigabyte 660 ti Windforce card? Can't find anything on google.

Worth it to spend the extra ~$50 on a the Tahiti LE 7870 Powercolor or just go for a standard 7850? Tomshardware says the 7870 Tahiti LE is super power hungry, even more so than the 7950, which makes me uneasy since my PSU is only 500w and I'm running an OC'd PII 965 BE @ 4.0GHz and 1.5v which is also very power hungry.

I don't think that the 7870 Tahiti is going to be more power hungry than a 7950 considering that it is basically a down clocked version of the same chip. I don't trust Tom's anymore, prefer other sites for reviews and testing.

According to Tweaktown it is about average. If you have a good name 500w PSU you will be fine.

Maybe this will help as a reference CPU Overclocking vs. Power Consumption. Page 16 - X-bit labs

Toms Hardware also ran a 3.9-4.0GHz test bench with a 4870 x2, and that topped off at somewhere around 500W being supplied by the PSU (assuming ~80% efficiency).

Reasonably, I'd say you're probably sitting in the mid to high 300s, maybe 400W range. Personally I'd be looking into a new PSU, but if you purchased a good one, you should be alright for now.

I'm testing a 7870 right now, and it's not what I would call power hungry. Uses only a few more watts than a 7950 in my tests, no more than 270W at full load using MSI Burn In.

A 500W PSU would be plenty in most cases, however depending on the power draw of your CPU, you might actually run into problems. There are two versions of the 965BE, one is 125W TDP and the other is 140W.

In any cases you should be fine though. If you want to be sure, get a cheap power consumption meter.

This is the PSU I'm essentially using now, but an OEM version included with my case. Has nearly identical, if not exactly the same specs. It's a pretty weak on 12v with only 18a though, so I won't be adding in another card in a long time. And I have the 125w version of the 965.

eXtreme Power Plus 500W - Cooler Master - Leading Provider of Computer Case, Cooler, Power Supply, Laptop Cooling, Gaming Peripherals

Also, a friend wants to Crossfire 7850s with an Antec NeoPower HE550 with a Core i5 3350P. Dunno where he got this chart but here it is

Official spec sheet

Antec.com - NeoPower 550 SpecSheet

I'd say he'd really be pushing the envelope, but he's not convinced at all. Now I'm not an expert on PSUs so perhaps it'd be fine.

Thanks for all the replies about my build problems a page back in this thread.

I ended up switching the Motherboard to an MSI MPower and ran into issues with that... almost the same thing was happening. Was getting A2 errors when trying to boot. I pretty much gave up and returned everything I was able to at ME.

I didn't try switching the PSU at all since I didn't think it was that, it passed the paper clip test and what not.

Turns out it was the power supply. Wasted so much time trying to get this to work lol. Bought the Antec 620W today and everything booted up fine. Installed windows and haven't had any issues so far..

I didn't get all of the parts from Memory Express and I think they would've charged me the $40.

But it feels good that everything is finally working.

Been running Prime95 for almost an hour and hitting about 55 degrees with the 3770k stock clocks and the Evo 212

is my hard drive dying? (laptop)

lately when unrarring or using par files or photoshop or downloading i'm unable to do anything else (like browse or have a video playing) it's like im unable to multitask

and the reason i think its the hdd is because when the above happens the computer gets hot especially around the hard drive like very hot this hasn't happened before when things were working fine

and i previously, and continue, to have moments where i can't do anything and task manager says the Disk is at 100% (for no raisin!)

when i run chkdsk there are no bad sectors but i get a message saying
"the master file table's (MFT) BITMAP attribute is incorrect."

and im told to run chkdsk /scan to find the problems and queue for repair but when i do no problems are found

Back it up ASAP. And get a replacement drive... if the failing drive is under warranty still you can RMA it.

Impulse bought a Logitech G600 from NCIX for $68 after taxes. Whole mouse froze for around ~20 minutes while I was adjusting the dpi settings with LGS and took me ages to hook up my other mouse to uninstall and reinstall the drivers, and reset the corrupted onboard memory

Finally don't have to use my keyboard for skills in MMOs.

I have the same case and it's really awesome.
Just a tip, why don't you move your Hard Disk to the lower rack/bracket and remove the top rack to increase air flow?
I actually removed both of my rack and hid my SSD in the 5.25" bay area.

I might be interested in your 6850 as a temporary replacement for my aging 6770...

In other news, I've finally pinpoint my slow booting Windows GUI "Starting Windows" screen boot issues. I disconnected my HDD and booted up, less than 15 seconds lightning fast! But with HDD connected the quickest I've booted up is 45 seconds.

I'm thinking maybe it's because the HDD is 2.5tb and Windows has to do a system check before booting up to access the drive in the desktop? Any ideas?

I don't know man... I have 3 extra HDD's connected (1.5TB, 2TB and 1.5TB) and it takes me maybe 15 seconds from pressing the button to get into Windows usually. I think it may be your boot order or something else that is causing the issue?

Suppose I could, but I've just got some extra length of molex cable tucked in there now haha. Air flow seems fine, temps are cool and I'm getting CPU temps of 50* or so at 4.4ghz running prime 95 with fans all set on low!

My boot order is correct, which is why I'm totally stumped. I've disabled every other boot device except for my SSD, so theoretically my HDD isn't even in my boot order. But it must be somehow, because if it's taking that long, either the OS is looking for the HDD before booting the SSD, or something else
