I put everything on my ssd because I don't use a lot of space, 256 has lasted me like a good 9 months now |

You can TRIM manually in Windows 8, by running "Defrag and Optimize Drive". Select the drive, and it will TRIM the empty space. The more empty space there is, the faster your drive will run. Some drives are more affected by this (Samsung 830, Crucial m4, drives with asynchronous MLC) than others (SandForce drives, Vector) So in theory, it does help to keep as much space on the drive as possible. So disabling things like system restore, not using hibernate, keeping the recycle bin empty, etc, will all help with speed as well as space. Just don't go moving stuff OFF the SSD that would benefit you, because that defeats the purpose of having an SSD in the first place For Win7 there are manual trim apps out there like ForceTRIM (didn't check link but that's the first result in google) |
Anyone have a win8 DVD I could borrow? I have a key but I deleted the upgrade thingie that I had to install a new version, and now that I've got my SSD installed and initialized, I need to install m'damn OS on it. Stupid lack of DVD. |

Received a massive static shock when attempting to turn on my PC today. Then it wouldn't turn on. Thought either the PSU or mobo was done for, but I disconnected the main power cable and all was fixed  |

Soooo my dads computer, which is still running Windows 7, after a reboot, is telling him that his copy of Windows is not genuine and wants him to enter the product key when he does the computer tells him the key isn't genuine and gives him a link to purchase Windows I went to Genuine Microsoft Software and it tells me that his windows isn't genuine and does the same (gives a link to buy windows) the thing is I bought that windows 7 pro key for him years ago there's no other solution offered by Microsoft so that's why I'm asking here, any ideas? I don't mind installing windows 8 on his computer the thing is I'd like to know why windows is doing this... is it a virus? i dont want to install win8 on his computer only to have the same thing happen all over again edit: found a source to solve my problem so just ignore the above i suppose :) |
So about that OCZ power supply that crapped out on me the other week.... their warranty return process is so lame, they asked me to do about a dozen things involving, pdf's scanning, faxing..... I was just so annoyed, I'd rather lose $80 then do all that shit, and reminded them of how a real company does warranty returns... When my Logitech mouse had a battery problem where it would drain way too fast, they sent me a brand new mouse all they asked for is the serial number, and they let me keep the old one which works just fine wired up. They did the same thing for 2 other peripherals of theirs I had, that's how it's done..... maybe Logitech spoiled me with their methods..... but are warranty returns all supposed to be this complicated ? won't be buying OCZ again, didn't do enough research into their power supplies they only offer 2 years warranty, other better quality ones offer 5, that would have tipped me off to their quality if I had known about it |
