Went at 5am. Picked up 2 monitors 23' for $120 and $135. Not too bad of a deal but some people are really serious about this stuff.

Swear to god the night before people were lining up with a tent and stuff right after dinner time. Shit just got cereal. Nevertheless, pretty damn good deals if you're looking for cheap extra stuff

Aaaaand the open box Corsair AF140 had madly squeaky bearings so it's going back to the store. Good thing I ordered one two weeks ago and it's ready for pick already :fuckthatshit:

hk2000 purchased a mobo and an HDD and both are duds  crossing my fingers that the Kuhler 620 I bought wasn't an open box faulty return...

I'm having problems booting up sometimes. It seems to occur more often now then it did before.

I let the computer go to sleep/hibernate and then when i turn it back on i get no display. I restart it and still no display, computer beeps once sometimes. and it just wont start so ill try putting the dvi in the 2nd slot of card. (asus engtx 460) and sometimes this works... sometimes ill turn the system off, let it sit, change the dvi port then start it and it will start. also changing from dvi to hdmi made it work.

i dont think its a OS/driver problem since it doesnt display from boot.

mobo is sabertooth x58
ram is some corsair cms or something (budget ram)

once bought a 570 that was dead at the sale
other than that, every other component of my computer was fine and the monitors i bought were all flawless
its just a hit or miss

neo_geo74 04-09-2013 12:32 AM

bought parts to build a media pc at the warehouse sale too. Returned mobo and cpu back for full refund but not before disassembling my main pc to test out the power supply and ram stick I bought.

Yea it's like gambling when you buy at the warehouse sale, it could be a massive pain in the ass when you get a defective item.

Anyone ever painted their fans? It seems relatively easy but perhaps someone who has had experience could chime in?

I bought a CM Turbine Mach 1.8 for my side panel fan mount on my CM Elite 430, for aesthetic purposes really. I plan on somehow cutting out the grille so that the cap on the fan will fit, as well as putting a "jet intake danger" vinyl decal beside it.

Going to paint the fan Rustoleum Dark Steel.

^^^ no clue but sounds neat :)

what kind of motherboard, case, etc. should i be looking at if i want to hook up like 10 4TB HDD? (with room for expansion)
my movie collection is taking up a lot of space and I thought it'd be a nice idea to make everything digital so i can get rid of the discs or throw em in storage etc (the guy who prefers physical media wants to make everything digital now ;))

You'd want a full tower case or a server case for 10 hard drives.... Bitfenix Colossus - and convert some 5.25 bays into HDD bays.

Or get this - Coolermaster Cosmos - 13 3.5 drive bays.

You'd also want a RAID card or SATA card to connect that many hard drives. NCIX - Buy Computers, Computer Parts, Laptops, World's Leading Discount Computer Store

FerrariEnzo 04-09-2013 10:50 AM

you could get a HDD docking station, as a cheaper alternative. Label your drives and just plug in the ones you need right away..
unless you need all 10 for streaming or whatever, then you need a bigger case...

XCLIO WTBK ADVANCED Fully Black Finish Chassis - two 3.5" external drives, six 3.5" internal drives, plus 7 expansion slots

StylinRed 04-09-2013 11:45 AM

ahh thanks so much guys!

Ulic Qel-Droma 04-09-2013 12:53 PM

if you paint your fan make sure u do it carefully.

Akinari 04-09-2013 01:09 PM

I've seen a couple of tutorials on forums and YouTube, seems pretty straightforward just removing the washer and rubber grommets and what not and the fan slides right out. Tape up the centre area of the fan and paint away.

Some guys re-oil the fans, some don't. I guess if you're careful enough and don't let any of the oil flow away, re-oiling is not necessary.

FerrariEnzo 04-09-2013 01:14 PM

hmm... painting case fans... would require you take it apart?

I recently put together a pc.
amd 5600k apu, stock heatsink/fan
8gb ram
500gb 7200rpm hdd
500w bronze fractal design psu

I noticed that using the computer feels sluggish. At first I thought I just got used to having windows on an ssd. But i dont think its the hard drive.

On bios, my cpu temp idles at about 42C and goes up to 52C on windows idle.. motherboard temps seem normal at around 30C.

I saw this and its temp graphs are way lower than mine should be. Pretty sure I put on the heatsink correctly. What are the other possible causes for the heat issue?

FerrariEnzo 04-09-2013 04:28 PM

Im looking for some case fans..
2x120mm and 2x140mm

Im thinking Noctua NF-A15 PWM 140mm and NF-S12A PWM 120mm....
OR
Corsair Air Series SP120 High Performance Edition and Air Series AF140 Quiet Edition

Akinari 04-09-2013 04:32 PM

I highly recommend Corsair's AF140 for 140mm.

EDIT: Why do you need PWM for case fans lol

Can Anyone recommend me a good router?
My router died and I don't have access to the internet anymore at home
(unless I connect my computer to the modem directly)

I don't need anything spectacular, but something mid-tier is good.
I need to hook up 3 PC's and a phone line with it.
Not sure if I need a G or N model...

Budget around $80~??
Less would be better if I don't have to sacrifice too much speed.
But I don't need something with humongous range.
My computers are only like 20 feet apart.

Looking to buy pretty soon, as I need my internet.

Netgear WNDR3700 Wireless N Dual Band Gigabit Router - $89

are these computer in the same room? if they are, why not just get a switch

J.C 04-10-2013 01:58 PM

does using up a certain % of the space in a SSD affect the health of it?

FerrariEnzo 04-10-2013 03:08 PM

yes... i believe that if the drive has less then 50% space it, it will decrease in performance...

Nope, they're not. But they're basically in bedrooms beside each other.

Has anyone used "Asus RT N53" ?
I might be considering that one too.

I assumed affecting health and performance is two different things...
Did the poster mean performance or health?

Sometimes I'm too lazy to clean up my desktop full of "junk"
but I don't notice my computer that slow so I don't really care too much.
But if it's going to affect the life of my SSD, I better start cleaning up!

I have that router. It is a pretty good unit but no Gigabit so slower file transfers if you happen to have a NAS and use the wired connection (which I do). See if you can pick up the E4200 refurbished models from NCIX. Great deal around $65: E4200v2 Refurbished

It does not affect the performance of your SSD unless it is a few specific models - Crucial m4 is affected, and so are the Samsungs, I think. This is due to how the controllers work on those chips. Sandforce drives are fine as well.

As far as I know it does not affect the health of the SSD either. SSD health is mostly based on the life cycle - how many times you have written to the drive. Most people will never see the limit on the drive unless you run the computer as a server and have a crazy amount of IO going....

are they wireless capable or you want wire?
you could go with DLink Wireless N Powerline Router. If you need more coverage, just get the wireless unit and plug it somewhere else in the house... only thing is this unit isnt a gigabit.. unless you dont need it, this might be a good unit..
you can price match it with BestDirect Canada @ $37.77

OR
LINKSYS X2000 Wireless-N ADSL2+ Modem Router @ $64.99

AzNightmare 04-10-2013 05:33 PM

I'm not familiar with the router specs...
But I can tell you what I need.

I hook up 3 PC to the router and a phone as well.
I use wifi as well with a laptop and my phone.

I do quite a bit of downloading
But not running any servers or anything.

Can I trust refurbished stuff?
What is a gigabit
