Gerbs are you bringing the tent |
so waht did u guys end up getting? |
probably bunch of open boxed items that don't even work properly :derp: |
I got everything I went for :derp: Fractal Design Define R3 in Arctic White, exactly what I wanted. $33 :fullofwin: pretty much brand new. Fell in love with this case when it was first released awhile ago, as that flat front door is perfect for wrapping. Will probably put some 3M Primavera Dark Wood or 3M Bubinga Gloss Wood wrap on the front. https://fbcdn-sphotos-f-a.akamaihd.n...69779563_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-d-a.akamaihd.n...49452964_n.jpg |
with your water cooler...how high are you able to o/c your CPU?. |
I o/c my core i5 by 1.5ghz (3.3ghz stock to 4.8ghz) running corsair H80 |
99% of Phenom 965BE chips top out at 4.0GHz. Any higher wouldn't really increase performance anyway. The 965BE runs pretty hot at stock clocks already, and my room is always very warm especially in the summer with ambient temps at around 25-30 degrees. I don't have any problems running stable at 4.0GHz, but my temps are very dependent on my ambient room temps. On a sunny afternoon I usually idle around 35-40, at night with my window wide open with 4th floor White Rock sea breezes, I idle at around 30-33. Have never done a stress test to check load temps, it's pointless as I will never do anything that will put the CPU at 100% anyway. Playing TERA I get 40 degrees, rarely go over 43. But again, highly dependent on my ambient temps. Kind of dependent on what fan I have blowing into the rad as well, I found that a rear intake config significantly lowers temps compared to an pull/exhaust setup (as tested by Antec awhile ago, confirmed that rear intake produces lower temps). Was using a Gentle Typhoon AP-15 before, amazing fan but the bearings eventually get louder to a point where I decided to not use them anymore. Even tried to re-oil the bearings to no avail. Now I'm using a Noctua NF-F12, ultimate silence but it's definitely a downgrade in comparison to the AP-15. Going to get another NF-F12 for a push/pull setup. I spend way too much money on fans. One of these days I'm going to jump ship to Intel and never have to worry about temps again :ilied: tl;dr closed loop watercooling is not worth the money unless you find a great deal. I bought my Kuhler 620 for $30 which is essentially 50% off, but it's definitely not any better than my old Hyper 212 Plus on push/pull. |

have you tried both? which way is better? |

The R3 is an awsome case got mine when they first came out have been very happy with it Posted via RS Mobile |
So I'm looking for a side panel fan, the R4 supports both 12 and 14mm fans and I'm getting it specifically to shoot air at my GPU, I'd like to stay with Noctua if at all possible, what do you guys think of this: Noctua NF-A15 PWM 140mm Ultra Quiet Cooling Fan 300-1200RPM 115.5M3/H 19.2DBA 4-PIN PWM Any other better options from NCIX? Essentially, cold air is entering from outside the case through the back, blowing onto the hot rad, then exhausting out from the top exhaust fan, with another bottom intake fan blowing additional air upwards to help with exhausting. The only gripe I have is that since my case is cooler, my room gets really hot when I'm gaming :derp: Quote:

A14 ahh icic well mainly I'm using this for cooling while mining litecoins so my video card is whining anyways so not really too concerned with silent, moreso because my case is filled with noctua stuff already and anything else would clash with the color scheme heh :s Posted via RS Mobile |
A14 managed to lower my GPU temps about 8 deg! Success! Although with my D14 heatsink I can't close my case completely now, and when I first closed up my case the fan actually pushed my heatsink around and comp wouldn't boot until I moved it back into position :/ May just screw the fan a bit lower into the side case hole Posted via RS Mobile |
If it helps, perhaps you could use the P14 instead as it uses 120mm mounting holes. In other news, I picked up another S12A and another A14. Now running two S12As to cool my HDDs and the A14 as a bottom intake. Haven't decided if I want to get a P14 as the pull fan for my Kuhler 620, or wait for the F12 I RMA'd. |

Gtx 770 = 5% faster than 680, Titan cooler. $400+ Gtx 780 is a slower version of the Titan, $800 sounds about right. Either way Nvidia still charging premium  Glad I went back to AMD |

So, I just bought two of Noctua's new NF-S12A 120mm fans for intake on my Define R3, the area for HDD cooling. I guess my old case was less restrictive up front because on with the dust filter and HDD cage right after the fans, the S12As can't really blow any air, as they're meant for unrestricted areas with very low static pressure. Need to switch over to P12s instead. Selling or trading, any takers? |
