But the real world difference wouldn't be that much different than a single SSD. In fact, since most 240GB SSD are a bit faster than their 120GB versions, I don't see why you'd want to take up 2 SATA slots instead of going with a single bigger SSD.

They are both running the same SandForce SF-2281 controller, but the SanDisk is a bigger drive, and so the IO ops will be slightly faster. Also, the SanDisk has more storage space. But it is more $$, and you'll have to have it shipped to Point Roberts for pick up if you don't want to get stuck with international shipping.

Thanks, yeah I looked at a review noticed they're basically the same and it comes down to $70 more ah well
only using it in my htpc for the os so i guess the hyperx is already good enough
edit: any recommendations on a sata2 expansion card? everything i seem to find seems to have horrible/mixed reviews :/ just need 2-4 more sata slots

Barefoot 3 is good, especially at keeping access times down while in steady state. However the throughput consistency is not as good as SF2281 at steady state.
I know based on Anand's review Samsung MDX's consistency is horrible (his site is the only other one to test for this), but he doesn't do a steady state curve test so I can't comment on that. If it's anything like the older Samsung controllers, it will be bad too. (edit: HardOCP tests for it, and it is as bad, as I expected)
LM87800 consistency is great, but again I don't know how it handles steady state.
Fresh state performance tests don't mean much if the drive loses its performance as soon as it hits a steady state. And some drives handle this much better than others... It's crazy to me that the 'big sites' don't test for this. Is it because a single test takes at least 3-4 hours to run? I don't know... (edit: I checked HardOCP for this too, and the steady state performance looks good)
In my experience, SandForce drives handle it best of all, at least on the consumer drive side of things. It looks like the LAMD controllers are good too.
And for the record, I never called it "the latest and greatest". It is an older controller, and others (well at least one) has caught up. It is 'one of' the greatest, and because it is older, prices are usually lower than the other, newer controllers.
