Thermals... Higher clock speed and wattage = major power leakage, especially as dies are shrunk. Instead, they design CPUs for more instructions per clock and added instruction sets to make calculations faster.

Might I suggest these changes:

Intel Core i5-4670K, EVGA GeForce GTX 770 - System Build - PCPartPicker

-changed to Haswell
-Changed SSD to Kingston V300 - similar performance but much cheaper
-Changed PSU - you don't need so much

So in the end you have a cooler, faster, lower wattage system for less overall cost.

Might be some issues with Haswell. Retail versions are running hotter and overclock less than pre demo ones from Intel.

Apologize for not going into details. My budget is 1500 and primarily would be used for video/sound editing, gaming, porn lol, and the usual web/email surfing

For those that are planning to upgrade to haswell, be prepared to invest into a much better cooling unit. even at stock speed, the stock heatsink can't keep the CPU cooled. Even I'm running a H60, its only adequate.

I'm regretting that I went with Haswell... should've just build another Xeon E3 1230v2 system. the 4770k at stock speed doesn't make a noticeable difference in terms of performance upgrade.

Yeah, is there a reason for the upgrade? I encode and stream 1080p video on the fly so my 3770k made a huge difference... but for gaming, I didn't see as much of a difference from my 925.

Kind of surprised that Intel messed up on this one, esp when the issue is something that can be remedied with low tech solutions such as bigger HSF.

-_- i bought some high flow low db 4pin fans for my htpc turns out the cases fan controller is for 3pin fans and the connector doesnt leave an opening for me to plug the 4pin in -_-

anyone know a site that sells 4pin to 3pin cables or 3pin extension cables for cheap? (that'll allow 4pin cables to be plugged in)

would hate to pay ncix' prices

I need some input/pointers for my Video/Photo editing machine. I most likely won't game on it.

Here's the list. Ignore the prices (obviously).

I have not decided on which video card I should get. Need help in that department. I thought about running an SSD for OS/Program and two WD Reds in RAID for storage. Then a WD Black for a scratch/misc data drive. I thought about using an SSD as a scratch but I'm not sure how well that will work. Should I stick with the Asus Z87 MATX-Gryphon or the Asus Z87 MATX-Plus board?

Intel Core i7-4770K, Asus GeForce GTX 660, Corsair 350D Window - System Build - PCPartPicker

Thanks!

I'm confused...

Newegg.ca - CORSAIR CX Series CX750 750W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply

Newegg.ca - CORSAIR CX750M 750W ATX12V v2.3 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

They're both $99 original price... $5 diff while on sale.

Seems like the only thing I can see different is the modular cabling from a quick look.

i'm no expert at psu at all but looking at the specs of the 2, one is modular, one is not. one is 90 - 264 V and the other is 100 - 240 V

I don't think heat is a concern with Haswell is an issue at stock speeds.. Overclocking definitely

going to build a budget computer for my gf to use photoshop to draw on. Haven't build a system in 5 years so not really up to speed on what's good and not. Last system I build was an amd athlon 64 4200 :/

how is this for photo editing/drawing/watching hd movies?

AMD A10 5800k apu
MSI FM2-A85XMA-E35 mobo
G.skill RipjawsX DDR3 1600 F3-12800CL9D-8GBXL ram
Antec VP500P 500w PS

not sure if going to go with ssd then run 1tb storage HG or just a single 1tb seagate. Seems the onboard gpu with the A10 5800k is good enough for alot of games, should be good for photoshop right? It must be way better than my amd 64.

everything will be around $700 including a dell ultrasharp u2412m monitor

Is she going to be gaming?

Another route would be grabbing a Phenom II x4 965 ($89.99 @ ncix) which should be good for her photo editing needs. And if she does want to get into gaming, throw in a $130~ card.

Yeah that'll be good for photoshop and gaming in 720p

For storage I would get a 120GB SSD for Windows and most used programs, and 1TB for storage and other things.

no gaming. just photoshop and watching movies. With the athlon x2 I'd still have to buy a gpu no?
