^ cost of your build? And more specifically the Z87M and 4770k combo?

get the GTX760 or when the GTX670 becomes around 300$, snag it for around the same price as the GTX760 with a bit better performance.

I missed the Staples 30$ off SSD deal. I should have went to grab a SSD for cheap!

Here in Hong Kong the asrock is about $239cdn, 4770K for $377cdn

GTX760 is around $270, I do believe my 6850 could stay with me for another year.

a solid 550W PSU is enough for a single card...power requirement is goign down with better efficiency...many cards draw under 200W nowadays

Any gaming laptop recommendation? I've been using Mac for my notebook needs, so I haven't even followed or look at windows laptop for years.

So far, I've only checked the Razer Blade and Alienware. Anyone got experience with the Razer? It seems its the closest in terms of quality compared to the macbook pro.

Still debating between a Haswell or IB.

I am able to get a 3770k for 220$ no tax BNIB.

For Haswell, I am going to get a 4670k for 239.99+ tax [ncix sale]

What is your thought? My normal day to day varies. I game sometimes, do programming with visual studio/netbeans and some other less intensive programs. I don't do any video/photo editing.

At the same price point. I am stumbled on what to get?

Future proof ->Haswell? - Hotter, more expensive

3770k -> older gen socket [ not future proof]? Even if I get this. The next time I need to upgrade, it'll probably past LGA and going into BGA

Overall. What do you guys think. I will save 50$ for going with 3770k.

Personally I would go for the 3770k. I prefer less heat and because haswell is still new, I would wait for a "next gen". Nothing is future proof. Usually I only upgrade ram and gfx card. So by the time I do need a new CPU, haswell will probably be dying out or a new CPU is close to being released. I'm no CPU expert, but unless haswell has superior upgrades to the 3770k, I would stick with 3770k. And the fact you don't really do video editing or anything intensive, I would save the 50 bucks to spend on other possible upgrades.

I would go with the 4670k because of the newer socket. The LGA1155 like all other Intel sockets, are dying with the new Haswell out. Unlike AMD, Intel sockets become obsolete VERY fast imo.

Precisely why I want to stick with IB. the performance difference is negligible . And when it is time to upgrade to another CPU, LGA 1150 will also be out of date already.

Any more though?

I'd go with Haswell

Faster clock for clock
Uses less energy, especially during idle
Platform is way better (more USB 3.0, more SATA3)
Has slightly lower OC headroom, but higher clock for clock makes up for it (unless you get a total dud)

^Z87 doesn't bring anything new over Z77
my Z77X-UD5H has 8 USB 3.0 which is more than adequate...one would not need over 2 ports of 6gbps SATA even with SSD RAID...HDD doesn't benefit from Sata 6gbps...anyone thinking of an elaborate SSD setup should save their money as SATA Express is coming

the 3770k won't be compatible on a z87 mobo

Z87 brings more native USB 3.0... The UD5H uses a Via hub.. it's still good but I prefer native USB usually. Depends on the board overall.

And to say "one would not need" more than 2 ports of 6 gbps is wrong, sorry. YOU might not need it, but others might.

how much faster is 3x/4x RAID0 compared to 2x RAID0 on SSD? Wouldn't it be more cost effective to go PCI-E or wait forever for SATA-E?
