my laptop feels like it goes up to 100 doing absolutely nothing -_- |
Alright, almost got my whole build in.. Waiting on two parts from Newegg shipping from Ontario but due to the recent flood thing it's been delayed :QQ: i7 3770k Zalman Z9 Plus ATX Mid Tower XFX Radeon HD 7870 Core Ed. ASRock Z77 Extreme3 Corsair CX Series CX750 SAMSUNG 840 Series 120gb SSD Kingston HyperX Blu Black Series 8GB 2X4GB I've read and watched some stuff on first time building... Still kind of scared! I will be streaming it from start to finish so that a couple of my friends can guide me if I have any trouble lol. |
i just built my first comp last year. it look scary but its not. everything is just plug and play. as mentioned before, nothing should really require extra force. all it needs is a little force. if you find yourself struggling and needing a lot of force to put a part in, you're probably doing something wrong. the hardest part i found was reading the mobo's manual and plugging all the wires correctly onto the mobo. oh yea, make sure you don't have static build up before you start :P |
The hardest is connecting all the PSU wires...(cable management is a pain imo). Then connecting the wires correctly onto the mobo is annoying as well. Aftermarket CPU Cooler might take awhile too. |
Agreed. Just make sure to touch your case every so often to ground yourself from static electricity. |

For the SDD if you can, opt for the 840 Pro Series, according to a few people its much better than the non pro. Also the case is pretty tight for cable management, I took off the back cover and it was a pain to get back on due to the cables back there but is manageable. Don't forget to connect the power bottom on the front bezel, the cable comes unattached for some reason What kind of CPU cooler are you going to use? Keep in mind, all in one water cooling wont work on this case, and the stock intel heatsink isn't the greatest... http://i41.tinypic.com/k180nb.jpg http://www.revscene.net/forums/68384...ml#post8258021 |
^Thanks. All my parts came in today woohoo! I will probably be streaming myself building it since I have no idea what I'm doing and my buddies wanna guide/laugh at me lol. I won't be OCing it so I didn't buy an aftermarket cpu cooler, didn't buy liquid cooling either. I was told that since I am not doing anything heavy duty, it is not really necessary. What did you use for cable management? Zip ties? How many should I have? I guess I will make a trip to the dollar store... |
For tomorrow's NCIX warehouse sale, how late would you guys think I can go and still find myself a cheap SSD? I'm not looking for anything fancy at all, so I don't need to be the first in line to check out the entire selection that they have. |
Just make sure you ground the motherboard properly.. |
I just realized I don't have Windows....What's the best way to go about this? Edit: Nvm found my copy woo |
Torrent or ask friend for a copy.. or buy |
Alright, build finished! Took a really long time for me actually because the case front input wires were so frikken hard to connect and find on the mobo! Also, got juked out because the power button wire wasn't even connected behind the front casing... |

Anyone can recommend a Z87 MATX board? Just RMA my ASrock Z87M OC Formula and planning to get another budget/decent Z87 board, any recommendation? I bought the ASrock because of the HDMI-in, but it seems useless to me as my monitor has dual HDMI input anyway. |
Okay I have a problem with my computer and you guys may have some intel on this. I built everything and it went fine, but whenever I open CS:GO or like, when I am loading the game, or alt tab out and alt tab back in, my screen will freeze and nothing will happen. I won't be able to alt tab, or ctrl+alt+del or anything! I have no idea what the problem is.... Anyone have a clue? Edit: Just some more info, I updated my drivers for the video card, have the AMD catalyst thing, etc etc.. |
shouldn't be happening with a fresh windows install you installed the video driver in its default path? improper driver install can really screw things over (ie not uninstall the old one first etc) is your gaming resolution is same as desktop resolution? |
Yes, I installed everything new and fresh. I am pretty sure I installed the correct driver etc etc. And yes, the gaming resolution is the same as desktop resolution. Edit: I was just testing out some stuff, when I changed my resolution from full screen to window mode and lower resolution the same freeze thing happened.. |
Are SSD reliable these days to be used as a lone primary drive? I'm contemplating between a SSD ( < 120 GB) + HDD or just go with a SSD (250 GB). The computer is mostly for docs, web, and once a week where I do audio editing on files from a digital recorder. |
How are SSD not reliable? I don't even have any mechanical drives on my desktops. Neither does my notebooks for the past 3 years. I have everything on cloud and NAS. |
it really depends on how organize you are, i am contantly having 80 to 100gb working files on my desktop, so changed to 256gb so i can install big games without backing up. HDD is rarely used again, when all the music and video can be streamed online nowaday. |

Would you guys say it's worth upgrading to Windows 8 Pro for $70 (student?). Kind of contemplating whether or not to upgrade. |
dont they have much better student upgrade plans than $70 in the past? Win8 is a snappy OS....but its search sucks and I still missing booting straight into desktop |
I think so.. but that's the only one I've been able to find. I think I've still got access to my school email so I'm hoping to find a good student deal. How well does Windows 8 play with games? Will I run into any troubles? |
yeah win 8 runs games a bit better than win 7 just your day-to-day UI I still prefer win 7 |
