Seized hub-centric spacer, Y U NO come off?!?! Been trying for days, but these damn bastards won't come off. Let alone budge. They're 10mm H&R Trak+ aluminum spacers. I put a small amount of grease in before thinking that would help as I wasn't planning on keeping them on long but I was wrong. I've tried hammering it, heating it, yelling at it, and used 2 large screwdrivers in an X to pry them in a circular motion but still nothing. :yuno: Any tips? Keep in mind I'd rather them still be usable afterwards. one thing ive done before is to drill and tap 2 small holes in the spacers on opposite sides and then thread a couple of bolts in which will then push the spacers slowly off the hubs and this should also allow to reuse and not destroy the spacers. good luck |

Use an old screwdriver or chisel and hammer it at the top. Might mar it a bit but nothing a file can't fix. |
i'd do flat screwdriver and a hammer, just hammer it all along the edge where the ring meets the hub, u might damage the thing, wont be a big issue just the edges |
if the edge is flush with the face of the rotor, dont use a flat screwdriver, they have a blunt edge. use a chisel like this: http://www.billcasselman.com/chisel.jpg i use those to pull diff covers off. works like a charm. and WD40 is bullshit you may as well use water. get a good penetrating fluid like pb blaster, fluid film, or moove it. and put some heat on it around the center hub. |
PB Blaster + rubber mallet should do it. |
Just curious. Any chance you used the wrong size spacer? Meaning the bore on the spacer is a touch too small and got wedged onto the bore of the hub? That looks like an aluminum spacer. It can't be seized on that tight, if at all... |
Thanks for the replies guys; a chisel was my last resort as I didn't want to damage/chip the edges of the spacers but looks like I don't have much of a choice. It fits perfectly flush where the spacer meets the hub. Liquids can't seep between it. They have been on the car for about 4 months now. And it is the correct center bore size. Just happened to be really fuckin tight. |

I know for bikes, aluminum seatposts in steel frames can be nasty business if there is corrosion going on. The different metals react and basically weld themselves together chemically. |

its pretty simple really, take off the fucking caliper and bracket and have at the rotor... you have a lot more leverage there. |

http://sciencephoto.com/image/81928/..._Torch-SPL.jpg Hit the Rotor. Once it's warmed up, get it into the crack in between the Spacer and Rotor. It's just the oxides holding it together. Just burn that shit off and you're good to go. |
Haven't got it off yet, been busy working. Will have some free time this week. Keep you guys posted. I'll have to resort to chemicals/blowtorch/chisel. |
