2013 Dodge Viper...8.7L V10

2013 Dodge Viper Rumored To Use 8.7-Liter V-10: Report
By Kurt Ernst
October 27, 2011

We’re still over a year away from being able to buy a 2013 Dodge Viper at our local dealership, but rumors about the car continue to circulate. We don’t have a lot of hard facts, but here’s what we do know: Dodge has been been seen testing the new Viper on several occasions, and the car’s development appears to be progressing roughly on schedule.

Allpar is now hinting that the 2013 Dodge Viper will be powered by an 8.7-liter V-10, which boosts displacement from the 8.4-liter engine that Dodge used in the last Viper. There’s no word yet on specific output from the larger engine, but it’s a safe bet that the new car will produce more than the 2010 Dodge Viper's 600 horsepower and 560 lb.-ft. of torque.

If the 8.7-liter engine report turns out to be fact, its 531 cubic inches will make it the largest displacement engine ever used in a Chrysler production car, eclipsing both the previous Viper’s 513 cubic inch V-10 and the 440 cubic inch V-8 used by Chrysler in the 1960s and 1970s.

Allpar also says that Viper production will start in the fall of 2012, with the car debuting in early 2013. We have a healthy respect for the last Dodge Viper, so we can’t wait to climb behind the wheel of its replacement.

You could cook eggs on the hood after a 0-100mph run on the older ones, wonder if you could cook chicken breast on this model.

donjalapeno 10-27-2011 04:16 PM

I love the big-engined rwd formula. Badass.

I suspect it's the Corvette making the Viper team stretch the design parameters further.

Can't wait to see the UGR Twin Turbo Model...

Berz out.

Teh Doucher 10-27-2011 06:19 PM

I think the ongoing theme of the Viper is to burn it's occupants legs should they decide to get up or sit down the wrong way.

But if I have to burn my leg to drive a Viper, I'd say it's worth it...?

bloodmack 10-28-2011 12:17 AM

sadly it will probably come with TCS and all the other useless "supercar" goodies.. thus making it a heavy beast..

Wasn't it discontinued in 2012 because of the mandatory TCS on all cars in the US? So I'd suspect it will have TCS now.

Viper is such an awesome looking car, can't wait to see the new one... hopefully they can make some advancements on interior unlike Corvette :(

lowside67 10-28-2011 08:01 AM

You dont think the C6 interior was a LIGHTYEAR newer with respect to Vette interiors? I mean it's still embarrassed by a $34k base model Audi A4 but it's come a long ways.

Mark

Vette Dood 10-28-2011 08:08 AM

I should of used "make an interior fit for 2012" rather then "advancements" lol.

I don't find the interior has jumped that far with the C6 from the C5 - except for the god forsaken hvac and stereo controls have been 'updated'. I suppose the ZL3 interior option gets some needed leather covering.

Anyways - totally OT lol.

shenmecar 10-28-2011 03:38 PM

damn those rear tires are as fat as a texan's waistline

Rotary_Rage 10-28-2011 05:24 PM

from my understanding the viper was axe'd on its last model then was going to be remade using "supercar" stuff so traction control, paddleshifts, etc etc

up until 2010-11 the viper was the only supercar that was available with a manual transmission, no traction control basically just a engine tranny with 4 wheels wrapped in a pretty shell

EmOne 10-28-2011 07:43 PM

A guy in my class at school just bought a 05, that thing is fucking badass.
Drinks fuel like a motherfucker but thats to be expected lol
He spent $70 in 3 days driving from downtown to bcit

achiam 10-29-2011 01:27 AM

8.7L V10 producing 600HP?! Is it just me or is specific output FAR below most other competitors?? I know this is an extreme comparison, but the Bugatti Veyron is less -- only 8.0L.
