Normally I would agree but people REALLY REALLY want it. So much to the point where some are making fools of themselves. Others brought up good points that I have acted irresponsibly. Since people care that much, and I really don't care at all, I don't see a problem with it, at least if it doesn't create even more problems. Maybe I was wrong all along, and opening fails is a better way to avoid problems. We'll have to see I guess. Posted via RS Mobile |

Good on you skinnypupp for doing that. Even tho I personally don't care about what's going on here I think its a smart idea to hopefully help make a lot of people happy.
I for one always type on the internet like I would speak to you in person, that's why I don't care if people fail me cause that's who I am and really I don't care what others think. Posted via RS Mobile |

The fact that a moron makes a post about not being able to fail someone on this forum is a small insight into their childish minds.
Most people now on RS are too stupid for my liking, and frankly, I can't tolerate it.
Instead of contributing something or using the forum for what it was designed for, they worry about fail's. Ok, so I get it, you don't like to be failed.. then don't say stupid shit like "lol that person died, I'll laugh because it's the internet". Most people do.
If you make fucking stupid remarks and say stupid things you will get failed.
I alos noticed that SkinnyPupp actually looked deep inside and said "yeah I made some mistakes" good for you... but 90% of RS users can't admit that they ever said anything remotely stupid or ignorant. They can't tolerate a simple fail or someone else disagreeing with them.
They have to be told they're special and that this is democracy, your opinion matters and is so so important. Well, it's not. It's a fucking forum, democracy is an idea just like socialism (which I prefer more anyway) and the only rights you have are the rights to be banned.
It's a free forum, you've done nothing for it, therefore it owes you nothing.
If anything, I'd prefer you still not allow anyone to FAIL you. Not because you don't say stupid shit, we all do, but because these whiny assholes can't fucking stand seeing anyone having even the slightest bit of power if it's not them, they just want everything everyone has, if you were eating poop sprinkled with just a hint of any sort of Mod privileges , they'd be complaining about how they're not consuming any gold sprinkled feces either.
I'd ban so many of you it's not even funny, then you'd be tankful for someone who's only privilege is not being FAIL'd by you little punks. | Yeah but if it'll finally shut people up then why the fuck not?

Opening up the fail button is really just a diversion. The main issue is he dominates the discussion in too many threads. Most ppl express their opinions in less than 5 posts. He goes on for 20. Personally, I used to enjoy coming on here for RS.net to see what its members were talking about. I didn't come on here for skinnypupp.net crowding out other, more qualified posts.
At the same time, it's just the internet and it's not really a big deal. However, in safety or health related threads, the ego trip behavior is irresponsible at best and dangerous at worst. I'm disappointed mods don't understand how much influence these threads have.
Anyhow, the mod team is right in one sense. It's their site, and members here can cry or they can do something about it by going someplace else or starting up their own thing. Don't like Robellus? Go to another provider.

This isn't a business setting where the users are employees. It's a community forum that happens to generate income.
In a good community, people are get and equal voice, even if that voice is devisive, useful or just plain trolling. Its think this whole "opening himself up to fails" is a good thing. IMHO, as meaningless as thanks and fails are, they are also a clutter free way of saying if the point made was insightful or inflammatory. Not counting the FUSWMYL thread, thanks and fails are actually a pretty good indicator of who's a troll and who actually makes some good points or contributes to this online community. Skinny just just put himself on level ground with the rest of the community.
Props to him for it.

HO LEE FUCK... I never realized how serious RS is until now. People take debating on RS this serious? A fail button really influence the atmosphere of their lives? A win on a debate with a forum member really boosts their ego?
WHAT... THE... FUCK... has the world become? There are bigger problems outside of your room people.
You're probably thinking that, "by posting this, aznlangjai is attempting to be involved in RS drama."
No, after I post this, I'm done reading this thread. I said what I want to say and I'm gone. I honestly don't have the time and heart to come back and see what people have to say about what I posted, let alone the memory to, and neither should you. Even if I happen to bounced back, saw a member quoted me on my post, read it, I will just shrug off and go read the "fucked up shit what makes you laugh" thread or something.
Why put yourself through so much misery, pain and pointless effort to win an internet debate?
Inb4 someone answers this question, the answer is yours to live with and bring to your grave. I said what I had to, your enjoyment is yours.

Go to another provider. | Having a large avatar and the tendency to make multiple detailed posts using strong language does not equate to automatic domination of discussions.
To everybody who think people like SkinnyPupp, Ulic, The7even, or any one of the other mods/posters who like to use strong language or to take up half your screen in one single post are automatically actually dominating discussions, maybe you're either just too chicken shit to (why one would be on the internet is beyond me), or just plain and simple incapable of voicing your own arguments.
I believe one of the two reasons why we don't have as much discussion as many people would like on RS is because so many people assume strong language/being known to use strong language equates to a strong argument. "Shit man, Ulic-Qel-Droma always right, better just stay away from this thread!" Sure, there are posters who generally come out on top in discussions by using strong language on a repeated basis, but do you actually believe it is because of the language that they use, or because they actually know what they're talking about? I know for a fact that many people on these forums are well-versed enough to have the choice not resort to those types of linguistic engineering to get their points across loud and clear.
The other reason? The very reason this thread was made: the FAIL button. I've never been particularly fond of the FAIL system.
Advocating a "Thanks" system was a great idea. It helps people separate the good posts from the insignificant/regular/(or even) bad posts. It serves as a easy "go-to" rep system for posters who genuinely contribute to the forum. But it should only go as far as to separate the "good-posters" from the " non good-posters". There should be a bottom line where the "reputation system" cannot formally sink below.
But that's exactly what the FAIL system does: it weeds out good/regular posts from BAD ones. Why do we need to know what the bad contributions are if we already found the answers/things we were looking for in the "good posts"? Trolling/Fail-whoring aside, the only thing the FAIL system does is disenchant those who seek to contribute to the forum (but ultimately fail).
TL;DR for the lazy fucks: FAILS should be removed altogether.
Most forums who advocate a "reputation" system much like RS's Thanks/Fails system do so to give people positive reputations for contributing. They DON'T (generally) give people negative reputations for not contributing/not being agreeable by the community.

Want to eat healthy at mcdonalds? Buy a double quarter pounder with no cheese, a salad, throw away the buns and salad dressing. Put the patties on the salad and have a 'burger plate' You have a nice big meal with no sugar, lots of protein, good fat, fiber, vegetables, etc. Have a water or a Coke Zero to drink. And don't try to tell me that ground beef is somehow worse than any other beef because it's ground. If anything, the more various meat it contains, the better. Things like offal (intestines, organs) are REALLY good for you, and other parts like tendon, sinew, all have beneficial nutrition as well that we typically don't get in a 'standard' diet.
Want to eat unhealthy? Order a 24 piece chicken mcnugget set with regular Coke, fries, and have a shake for dessert.
Want to eat healthy at a Greek restaurant? Have a huge oven baked lamb with a horiatiki salad.
Want to eat unhealthy at a Greek restaurant? Order a Pastitsio with a bunch of deep fried tiganitas and Loukoumi for dessert
(actually Greek food is very healthy more often than not, so not the best example but I used it in your honor . I hope you still get the point, and others will benefit from it too.)

Trolling/Fail-whoring aside, the only thing the FAIL system does is disenchant those who seek to contribute to the forum (but ultimately fail). | Take out the entire thanks/fail system. You can't thank/agree if there's no option to fail/disagree. And besides, this all roots to human flaws. If someone doesn't agree with you, you tend to think negatively of that person even if it's just a little bit. On the flipside, what about unworthy thanks? People thank posts for the most lamest and repulsive things. That's not exactly efficient either and not a good dose of forum contribution. And lol... if fails disenchant people from posting, they got other problems to consider. They really need to get out more, haha.
I don't quite think its a matter of using strong language. Ulic brought this up (coincidently) that its better to be a kind ruler than to rule with an iron fist. I think the pitfall of Skinnypup was not that he disagreed with everyone but the sheer delivery of his disagreement, plus there was little room for altering his opinion. He can sound so condescending sometimes and honestly who wouldn't get peeved after X times. His reputation was built on that and like the elephants people here are, they won't forget. So whether his next honest disagreement was put nicely or not, people fail him because his reputation for douchery is like 5 miles ahead of him. There are some people here whos voice can command an army because they vocalize themselves well, have logic/appeal, and apply an appropriate stance on it that people (without 12 year old mentalities) can be cool with.
That's just my 2 cents.

But obviously a large part of the board knows what we're talking about, and the type of bothersome behavior from one user has been established in this thread and others, apparently, over years. I don't see a point in going around in circles. The best analogy I can make is it's similar to when Taylor first came on this board, he had to be reeled in a bit. This is a magnified version.
Either you are willing to consider the other side may have a point or you don't.
Either you are willing to try open your mind further than where you think it should be or you'll find examples to confirm what you already believe.
That's cool. Not everyone's gonna baby sit or brute force their way through convincing someone something. I think what I wrote is representative of what ppl are saying here. You can disagree with what I wrote, and I'm fine with that.

^skinny, u shouldnt react to that. just know that the haters like to whine publically. but for every whiny bitch there is someone like me who thinks you did nothing wrong and thinks the people actually agreeing with this thread are pathetic little babies. rs is great but every once in a while something like this thread comes up that makes me depressed about how pathetic 18-30 year olds in this city can be. trust me, if there was some sort of "bulk fail everyone 'passionate' about this thread" button id use it in a heartbeat :-p Posted via RS Mobile |
