BlackBerry Bold 9790 Supposedly will be released by many carriers (Rogers, Telus, even Wind and Mobilicity?) sometime in the next few weeks. It's like the little brother of the 9900. The specs are similar, but the size is almost identical to the 9700, except significantly thinner. It has the same CPU, and has touchscreen. The keypad is the same type, but of course a little bit smaller, but still fairly nice to type on, significantly better than the 9700 for sure. It seems even faster than the 9900 though. There is like no lag with anything. Loads BBM group instantly and scrolls through the pictures as fast as you want it to. I'm using a prototype, so not sure if the battery life will be the same on a retail unit, but it's been more than 18 hours since I charged it, and I have 60% battery left... not bad. It doesn't look as nice as the 9900 (no metal trim), but overall not a bad alternative Bold. |
ya ive heard good things about it too. its basically the new old bold. the 9700/9780 is/was a pretty good phone. definitely a good phone between the curve and 9900 |
^ The 9700 was a good phone. 9780 is a piece of shit. IMO the 9000/9900 format is the cadillac of blackberries. Has the best keypad of any smart phone to date, just a dream to type on. Posted via RS Mobile |

It's actually very similar to the 9900. |
So it's been about 45 hours since charging, and there is still 15% battery left, so looks like it should definitely make it at least two full days. Actually, this is an old JM1 battery that I'm using, so maybe it might be even better with a new battery. One thing that is unique on this model is that they finally put the USB charging port on the bottom of the phone. Now RIM can finally start selling docks... |

i hope they start making batteries for the 9900, this 10 hour battery life bull shit isn't gelling with me |
Take some pictures? :fullofwin: |

Hmm I'm doubting the screen resolution though.. Because if it's true that it is 640x480, then its dpi should be higher since the screen is smaller than the 9900 which has a dpi of 286. GSMArena says the 9790 has a resolution of 480x360 (same as 9780) which makes more sense if it has a dpi of 245. |

Anyways, pretty sure that article has the resolution wrong... I think it is 360x480. |
that 9790 is actually a pretty nice looking phone |
$479.99 outright and $129.99 for 3 years at Telus. Out on Bell on November 28th TELUS to release the BlackBerry Bold 9790 and Curve 9380, price plans revealed | MobileSyrup.com |
I think I might pick up this phone. |
ya i retract my previous statement. android is meh. want phone i can be a complete text whore on. this maybe my next phone. |
^ Android couldn't perform your simple tasks? :troll: Have you figure out the ROMs and all the customization stuff? That's the only fun part about Android, being able to change up the look of everything when you get bored. But for my needs my BlackBerry does everything quicker. |
fyi 9790 doesn't have the same screen res and processor as 9900 it's actually a bit slower and screen res is lower, however for the size it's not bad |

But, whatever the case, the 9790 seems plenty fast to me... can't say I've felt any lag at all since I've been using it. |
