Dropped by Best Buy today just to take a look at the phones in person. The SGS 2 has a 4.3" screen, compared to the Nexus S' 4" screen. It doesnt sound like much, but its such a big difference. I've found a used Nexus S at a good price, so I'll likely pick that up. SGS 2 sounds great, but I can't justify spending almost double for it.
try clearing cache/data/dalvik and reformat everything
from what i've done with a nexusone 2 weeks ago, its still pretty snappy
reformatting is a dumb solution. Then I have to reinstall everything and make my settings back to what they were before only to have to reformat again in a few months.
im currently using a nexus s. its been about 3 weeks and i personally am not a fan of it. im going back to iOS because of the fact that im just plain used to it and its so much more polished than android is. also pretty much everyone i know now has an iPhone. iMessage all day long.
I've got a Tmobile Galaxy S Vibrant from down in the states, not the same as the Bell Vibrant.
I really like pretty much everything about the phone except one thing: the battery life. I have no idea if it's because the battery is old and not up to spec, or if this thing is just a battery hog, but even when I turn the brightness of the screen all the way down, I'll get 12ish hours at best. I use mine a lot as a news reader; google and the globe and mail and the like. Some people (Thanks Darthchili) have recommended find a better powersaving kernel, but there's not a lot that is processor intensive, so I'll save off until and unless the new battery I've ordered (3500mAh vs the stock 1500mAh) still proves insufficient.
I now just keep a charger at work and charge it there during the day...which I admit is highly annoying, but I absolutely adore my phone.
shits suck. freezes/lags/battery lasts one day if using data.
fucking hate it other than bbm. My ex and the girls i date would check my bbmessages and not reply (bbm shows that people read your message but does not reply)
Just switched over to iPhone 4 about a couple of weeks ago. Wasn't having a very good experience with my Galaxy S and Bell disabled recovery/download mode or whatever so
Yay
- Simple, fast UI
- TONS of Apps
- Awesome camera!
- Battery life is a A LOT better than what I got from my Galaxy S / Bold 9780
- Browsing the web is pretty good
Nay
- Can't squeeze every potential out of it without JB
- Fingerprint magnet. Solved it with an anti-glare screen protector + Otterbox Commuter
- Non expandable memory but don't really see it as an issue for me
- Don't like syncing with iTunes but got used to it
Overall I'm pretty happy with it Tons of games and apps to kill time. I know there are other Android devices that are much better but wanted to try something different.
Nexus S for a month or so now. Has CM7 on it, bought it that way. Would've preferred a clean slate. Just wish it had a bigger screen as I do a lot of browsing and Facebooking. Will eventually upgrade to something with a 4.5"+ screen. Played around with the Infuse and the SGS II, a lot easier on the eyes. I don't know how I ever managed when I had 2" screen phones back in the day..lol.
iphone 4 - more reliable than my previous sgs2. slightly slower but it feels way more stable if you know what i mean. tons of app support. pretty decent camera. lack of customization which is why i do miss android
blackberry 9300 - laggy as fuck. only good for messaging. total pos for web browsing and everything else. screen is really bright even at the lowest setting. will get rid of it as soon as i can get a s2x that works with mobilicity.
lol at friends that are telling me that its a pos cause its a curve. had the same problems with my old torch and and bold. i even played with the demo 9900 phone at the mobilicity store and its still not as fast as my iphone when web browsing. app world really lacks of apps and features.
can anyone tell me what bbs are good for? i got bbm too but i find it the same as whatsapp but with a nicer interface but whats the point when half my friends use iphones/androids? i mean both android and iOS can do so much more than what the bb can do. the only thing the bb has better than the iphone and android phones is the strong vibrate lol. built like shit too. i rage at this pos everyday. just my view on blackberry's. maybe its just because i need much more than just calling and messaging.
^^you are a fine example of the so called people I'm talking about. People also said 9700's were better then the iPhone 4 came out. Same with the 3GS. Back then android was no good either. I remember wanting to throw my htc g1 down the stairs because it crashed a lot and battery life lasted literally a few hours even without usage. yet now they made it as good as if not better than iOS. RIM could have done the same but they didn't try to become more developed. The first half of the 2000's was RIM's time. It's not just how fast/how good a phone is. It's also how RELIABLE and what it can do. I don't see apple and android releasing a shitty version of the iPhone or androids. Even though android did it's not a complete pos. RIM is still coming out with curves that don't even have something basic like camera flash.
People argue that blackberries are good because of the physical keyboards. Little do they even try to process in their brain that it takes a few days to adapt to learn how to type on a touchscreen keyboard just like it takes a while to learn how to write with a pen. Touchscreens arent something you will love right away. Your argument may be that you can type blind folded etc. I bet you I can type faster and more precise than you on my iPhone because I have more space to move my fingers around and I personally think there isn't anything wrong with the autocorrect. You should see how fast jtanner_ types on his iPhone. He types fucking fast with just one thumb lol. Android is even better. You can download custom keyboards such as swiftkeyx and swype. The swiftkeyx keyboard is amazing. It adapts to your typing patterns an learns from it. The autocorrect is crazy. You can miss every letter and it still helps you correct it and I can text blondfolded with barely any trouble.
Unless you're a teenager, there's more to just "kiddish apps or games". RIM lacking these "kiddish apps or games" is one of the major reasons why they are a sinking ship and how the stocks dropped a SHITLOAD this past year IMO. I mean the playbook was a fail from the start. Releasing it with such a lack of app support. I mean a tablet is not just for browsing the Internet. As a 18 year old kid even I know you need to have other apps to attract customers especially from non-berry users. What were they thinking when they didn't even try to make native apps for calendar, MAIL, CONTACTS for how many MONTHS? I mean aren't these fucking basic apps? Why did they introduce tabbed browsing THIS year for blackberries? Wasnt that so 2006?That's a major reason why playbooks went from like $500-600 to the now $200. How come the ipad keeps holding its value? Not only was it a fail but RIM took a half a billion dollar hit because of the playbook. Theres morethan just games. There's also banking, financing, reference and a lot of utility apps. If that isn't something you use, how about entertainment? (besides games) news, magazines, excercises, cookbooks etc. I'm still carrying and using my iPhone even though I switched over to Mobilicity because of these apps.
Even if blackberry gets support from the android market I don't see it helpin RIM that much unless they release better apps. I mean if you download 10-20 basic apps like Facebook, four square, bebuzz, Flickr, whatever. Your berry will fucking lag like no tommorow. When berries download apps that are third party and not as stable as stock apps I can't imagine how they will run. It's not just the phone, its also the company.
Why am I such a berry hater? It's because you berry people are too stubborn to try new things and have such stuck up attiitudes with your berries. It the same idea as how there's more to life than just working and doing daily routines. Pardon the cliche but there's more than just that in this world.

Samsung Galaxy S (T-mo T959)
good phone, being the flagship of samsung last year, it's just what I expect it to be
If it wasn't because of the half-assed build quality and broken GPS, I won't be looking to upgrade to a galaxy Nexus this coming week
My older N82
For it's age, best phone I've ever owned. Does whatever these new smartphones does... MINUS the touchscreen.
Currently my alarm clock + backup phone. honestly, this thing is the best

I'm debating on whether or not to go with SGS2 or IP4 for my next phone, so for those of you that made a 'reverse switch' from SGS2-->IP4, just wondering what the main reasons were?? What wasn't working with the SGS that worked so much better with the IP4?
reformatting is a dumb solution. Then I have to reinstall everything and make my settings back to what they were before only to have to reformat again in a few months.
I'll try clearing the cache/data though.
off topic:
buy "titanium backup". you can do a full restore with settings and game backups too. (Level saves etc)
i flashed my phone like 4 times this weekend. restores are painless. only a few clicks needed afterwards, like for setting default apps like preferred launcher or browser.
after format and initial setup (google account shit) just download Titanium backup again and do a restore.
3G issues, the wifi hotspot breaks up at times, the phone overheating made me feel pretty bad, I also mentioned in the sgs2 thread that my wifi breaks up occasionally and camera start up is pretty slow. When you take pictures it lags a bit too. Posted via RS Mobile
Lol I thought the overheating was common because I was playing drag racing or something like that with a freind because we both overheated. But yeah try taking pictures at night or low light at least. But I just didn't like the camera as the loadup isn't as fast and doesn't focus as fast as my iphone. If I want to take a pic with my iphone I can do it in under two seconds as the camera is built in on the lockscreen Posted via RS Mobile
