Vancouver Sun Run Was wondering how many of you are going to run it and who's getting ready for it?! Posted via RS Mobile |
i might actually be interested in training for it. Do you know any places good for training? |

Its 10K, you only need a month of training if you're in decent shape. Hell most marathon training programs are only 16-18 weeks. The only reason to start now would be to try and run a sub 45 min time. |
my goal is 25 minutes :p, at the moment 10 km for me is around 37 minutes Posted via RS Mobile |

My best was around 39 minutes. I usually average around 42 mins. |
Very nice! My best is 42 mins. I spent last year training for a half and then a full marathon. Going to train for another half in the spring. |
If you're not ready for it.....really, you don't have to go all out training for it. The streets are congested with 70,000 runners....you'll most likely be caught in between hordes. If you are shooting for time and acheivement, run the seawall at Stanley Park (8km). Great place to run.....and False Creek (6km or 9km) as well...lots of hot girls and the challenge of running over the bridge when you're fatigued. |
I bet you anything that those people that said they run the Sun Run in 35-42 probably will shave at least 5 minutes off their time if they were running a different race thats not horded as much as the SunRun. |
I don't want to come off as a Debbie Downer, but if you're serious about achieving a time that is less than 50 minutes, I would never run in the Sun Run. The Sun Run is great for people who have never taken up running seriously, want to sing Kumbaya while doing their and and get high fives from people when they slag across the finish line in about an hour. I'm no elite runner myself (my personal best is 46 minutes and change), but I would never again put up with people who don't move when I want to pass and people who stop to walk in the middle of the race. There are so many events now where you can get a proper race experience with good post-race food and decent swag. Posted via RS Mobile |

oh yes 10km tomorrow in the rain, then hot shower? :sweetjesus: |
10km around stanley park is still nice.... |
It was actually nice and sunny yesterday morning guise.. just a little chilly. Really weak time though, 55 mins, haven't been really training for it though haha |
i havent ran more than 2k in probably 10 years. my gf does the sun run every year. im going for it this year! im not in that great shape but my cardio is decent. just hoping to finish without stopping regardless of the time. just found out that my work will reimburse the full entry fee. shoulda entered all those years just to get a free shirt and be a poseur :troll: |
Burnaby Lake is also a great training ground for your 10K races. There are less people and the terrain is gravel/dirt which makes it easier on your knees. Posted via RS Mobile |
I thought this would be relevant considering the topic: Pros and Cons of Treadmill Training The Pros and Cons of Treadmill Training | Active.com |
I ran it back in high school for a few years, with a 52 minute personal best. Didn't do any proper long distance training, however. I'd say you should easily be able to shave off 5 minutes during the beginning if you start in one of the earlier heats; I was in the green heat last time and damn, the first 20 minutes was all dodging people left and right. |
just found out today my grandfather ran 10km's in 33 minutes and was doing 180kg clean and press being in the military need to carry on those genetics I have no excuse.. Must get time 30 mins for sun run, anyone else here running every few days to improve their time? Posted via RS Mobile |
I did a 10K last month (and in July), but have been running consistently since April. This is a good 2 month training program you can follow here. I will be running the Sun Run this year, to beat my latest time of 57 minutes. |
I don't understand anything on that site :fuckthatshit: |
Just signed up for Oak Bay Half Marathon over here in Victoria in May 2012. I've got a good running book that I have had for a few years called "Running. Start to Finish" It's by John Stanton who started The Running Room. The best part it has training programs for 10k, half marathon and full marathon for all types of different times that you are striving for. |
