RHD owners please come here

I am writing an article for the use of RHD vehicles and auto-insurance implications. It's going to be in an internal newsletter of an organization.

What I would like is to obtain some pictures your RHD car, exterior and interior shots. It doesn't need to be fancy (though welcomed if you choose to be), just the layout of interior, e.g. instrument clusters, steering column, drivers control, stereo controls etc.

My intent of the article is NOT to suggest that RHD should have higher rates, rather it can be considered as a different rate class under normal rating variables.

I want to highlight that some RHD vehicles available in Japan is never seen in the North American market and to be fair for all policyholders, RHD vehicle may need another rate class.

The article is not ICBC specific, the audience will be across all provinces in Canada.

PM me if you want more info on why I am writing this article.

Post pics of YOUR RHD, I just don't want to steal anything from the internet without authorization.

Looking for all RHD types, e.g. Skyline, Delica, Figaro... etc

Question as I have never really been inside a RHD.

Are the signal controls and windshield wipers the same as LHD? i.e. Left hand for signals and right hand for wipers.

Looking at Peturbo's pipc, it looks like it's reversed whereas the BMW is the same...?

Signals and all the headlight controls should be on the right side while wipers are on the left side.

Euro's and Japanese cars are different. My 2 benz in Hong Kong have signals on the left, whereas my Supra and lexus have them on the right, all RHD

1exotic: I have that same steering wheel on my supra

I believe euro RHD cars keep the LHD configuration for blinkers and wipers whereas JDM cars have it reversed (wiper on left, blinkers on right)....someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Yeah man, you're not alone. Unfortunately, I don't own her anymore..really regret selling her. Lowest mileage E34 I've seen in BC.

One day I might get another one.

Thanks guys! very nice pictures.

I always though RHD owners are always Skylines, Delica, Figaro, etc. but it seems like you guys are buying RHD cars that are also in the North American market. Reasons?
cheaper? higher quality from Japan (or anywhere else you guys are importing from)? because you find RHD has its own driving advantage (I can't think of any as our highways are designed for LHD)?

What would you think if in the future, you have to declare for insurance purposes whether or not your car is a RHD or LHD? Intuitively, I think collision coverage should be higher for RHD because the parts are rare, at least for vehicles not available in the North American market. But if we get enough of these RHD on the road, repair costs would be lower.

But RHD should not have direct links to more injuries or fatalities, holding everything else equal, contrary to what the insurance market thinks. Previous studies are too blurry as they compared apples to oranges. There are no solid studies regarding this issue. RHD = young male drivers vs. LHD = normal male/female drivers --> that is not proper comparison.

when i registered my car (first owner in canada) i had to specify it was RHD.

i originally bought it cause it was a bit cheaper, but already came with a fair amount of aftermarket parts. that and there weren't that many around at the time.

I don't know how long ago they updated their documents, but now my ICBC insurance papers have a line for marking right-hand drive cars.

My JDM-spec E34 had a bunch of small differences from the NA market ones. I think its about the same as the Euro spec. Had different headlights, taillights with rear foglights, side marker on fenders, no cruise control-although that might've been an option. Also had a "BMW Japan" windshield cover and medical kit, haha.

It was definitely an oddball though..a fair number of JDM BMWs are imported into Canada, but this is the only RHD one I've seen. Also, it has leather, which is also odd, as the Japanese tend to prefer cloth. The other JDM E34s I've seen in BC have all had cloth interiors.

north american spec cars came with more stanard features than the euro version. im surprised urs came with leather and is rhd, as there was an jdm e34 m5 that i had at work was lhd... elsewhere in the world the cars had the projector lights.

ah, rear fog. that explains why i have that other fog indicator on my cluster. i guess we share the same cluster set on my 535i.
