Yeah, looks like OEM conical seat lug nuts were used, when aftermarket tapered lug nuts is required/recommended to center the wheel properly.

It's funny, he asks:

Do real wheels bend, while fake wheels crack?

I have real Mercedes AMG Monoblocks, and 1 had a hairline crack on the rear of the barrel :p

Real wheels do crack aswell, I'm guessing they're just made better, so less likely to crack.

Timpo 11-15-2011 07:24 AM

well obviously fake wheels aren't engineered right so...

GG 11-15-2011 07:33 AM

real wheels weight 17-18 pounds

fake wheels weight 24-28 pounds for 18"

By your reasoning a lot of OEM 18" wheels would be considered fake...
just because a wheel isn't a "MAD TYTE JDMZZ YO" $3000 set of forged wheels doesn't mean they aren't safe for road use

OEM wheels are properly tested and engineer PROPERLY in the first place

not some joe blow company who copies another style just because its popular and duplicate its look ONLY

i was using it as a rough guide line to show what most authentic wheels weighs, while what kind of weight replica company produces with the same design of wheels

freakshow 11-15-2011 07:56 AM

What blows my mind is that the people on that site didn't once ask for pics of the sister..

Just don't mislead people in saying that a heavier wheel is necessarily less safe, and don't compare the weights of forged/rotary forged wheels with cast wheels.

I'm not a fan of these XXR 522's but ironically they aren't really heavy at all for a 18x8.5 cast wheel

gars 11-15-2011 08:12 AM

LOL at the second comment!!

Well at least you can replace that one wheel for really cheap.

Vinny from the other forum

"Aside from a few well placed and unbiased comments this thread gives me a fucking headache..
I seriously doubt the damage seen in the pic's was caused by anything aside from hitting the other car. None of us were there. So really, we dont know. Even still Blaming the accident on the wheel sounds like bullshit IMO..

What bugs me more is the attitude that if your wheels arent rocking a trendy brand name or didnt cost a Bajillion dollars. You are now a hazard to anyone near you..
Im Honestly waaaay more afraid of that stupid text your trying to send..

When it comes to wheels I wouldnt say Im the ultimate authority. But those who know me. Know how many wheels I fix/refinish on a regular basis. I think they would agree I have a pretty good Idea of what Im talking about here.

99% of the aluminum/alloy wheels sold around the world are made Via low pressure cast..

Most so called "fake" 1 piece wheels sold in the US. Use the exact same manufacture process that most, so called "real" 1 piece wheels do. Many are even made in the same factories. DOT requirements and structural integrity are in most cases Identical. The major difference is, higher priced wheels will generally have a better finish/look, and more stringent requirements regarding things like balance, and trueness of round.
Even most Multi-piece Wheels have low pressure cast centers. Break a spoke off most SSR, Advan, or BBS wheels for example. and it will look exactly like the XXR in the pic

The whole real vs fake attitude is stupid... Safety cannot be simply based on name/price alone. Just because you pay more doesnt necessarily mean you are getting a safer product. Cast is Cast... more times than not.. One is no stronger/safer than the other. "
