Fuck you shingles

damn you, why it burns SO BAD, :ilied:

only 2 small patches on my waist and already getting smaller everyday, but pain is x2 :yuno: I shower fucking 10 times a day, but it doesn't help much afterall.
I want to cut through my skin right now. FUUUUUUUU

Is this a one time thing or it will last forever?

SkinnyPupp 11-16-2011 02:27 AM

It's a herpes virus, it never ever goes away. Best you can do is hope for fewer breakouts

SkinnyPupp 11-16-2011 02:27 AM

BTW washing it like that will only make it worse

SiRV 11-16-2011 06:58 AM

get some valtrex ASAP to reduce the duration of the pain. If it isn't treated it could lead on to something called post herpetic neuralgia.. which is basically just nasty pain that never really goes away

gdoh 11-16-2011 07:11 AM

i came in here thinking it was about your house lolol

how do you get shingles??

TheNewGirl 11-16-2011 07:16 AM

Are you on anti virals? I know some doctors are reluctant to give them out but it's important to get them with Shingles cause of HN as SiRV mentioned.

SumAznGuy 11-16-2011 07:30 AM

Shingles is highly contagous too. Better not check out the Twanger thread.

SkinnyPupp 11-16-2011 08:53 AM

Yeah your future wife won't like you having herpes on your dink

gdoh 11-16-2011 08:54 AM

Or maybe he does since she is so possessive about "HER" home. :suspicious:

Shingles sucks balls man. I've never known a worse feeling in my life. Feels like a hundred fiery needles are poking each of my nerve endings.

I had it across my back from my spine wrapping around to my chest. (that's how your nerve clusters go).
Pure agony for 2 weeks.

I sympathize, but do yourself a favor, don't poke, pop or do anything to them. I've got some pretty nasty scarring on my chest. Call yourself to the doctor and get hopped up on pain meds and anti-virals or whatever. I toughed it out for 2 weeks, never again.

feel your pain bro,
had shingles last year.. holy hell it was painfull, took a week off work. did you get symptoms of a stiff neck and fever as well ?

asian_XL 11-16-2011 05:54 PM

Went to see my doctor three times. He said it's not a severe one, and definitely not the same herpes we know even though the name is herpes zoster. No symptoms of stiff neck and fever, just nasty pain on my ribs.

It could be bug bites or work stress that weaken your immune system. :yuno:

Eatman 11-16-2011 07:18 PM

Aw man, I remember when my buddy had shingles, it was terrible for him. It was so severe that the left side of his body became somewhat paralyzed.. the left side of his tongue was all bubbly, it was disgusting... Gives me shivers just thinking about it.

You need to consult a different doctor and ask for an escalated referral to a dermatologist.

If it's Shingles it needs to be treated with anti virals. If it's bug bites they need to be identified so you can do something about it. If work is making you so stressed out you are breaking out and in a painful rash that needs to be addressed.

Regardless - 'eh it'll go away' is not an adequate diagnosis.

shingles is just the adult's version of chicken pox

x2

I got it around 10 year ago when I was super stressed/tired all along my right arm. It looked disgusting and it was very painful especially as it would rub my shirt sleeve and stuff. I went to see a doctor but as it had already progressed to blistering, I didn't take any meds (maybe some sort of skin cream but no antibiotics or anything like that), just let it run it's course.

As mentioned, my doctor told me it's a form of chicken pox and that the body stores it after you've over come it during childhood but can attack a nerve if your immune system is weak (due to stress or whatever).

I had scars that FINALLY disappeared after 8 years and that's with me NOT popping them. There was one I popped hoping it would release the fluid and ease the pain. BIG mistake, it made the pain WORSE and it took a little longer for the scar to disappear so don't do it lol.

Ask your doctor for medication to help with it.

tegra7 12-24-2016 04:45 PM

Woke up with blisters on my arm this morning. Was confirmed by a doctor that I indeed have shingles. For those of you that have had it, does it spread over the whole body?

corollagtSr5 12-24-2016 05:56 PM

I thought shingles was version 2 of chicken pox. People who had chicken pox can get shingles.

punkwax 12-24-2016 06:14 PM

^ this is what I understood as well. Nothing to do with herpes

Shingles is still a form of herpes. Just not the STD form.

godwin 12-24-2016 09:20 PM

Not quite

The virus that causes shingles also can also cause chicken pox.

That virus belongs to the herpes family. The herpes family is huge, 100+ members.

No, usually just along one nerve cluster. I had it on my ribcage left side about a handswidth. Father in law has had it neck/head.
