Car Suggestions

hey guys,

I'm looking to get a new car that's going to be driven a lot. I live in Vancouver and will be driving to Port Moody on a regular basis. I know that moving would be the easiest option but it's not a viable one for me at this moment.

I'm going to be driving about 60kms a day and would need a good fuel effiecent car. I'm considering getting a 2012 Civic but would like to hear some other suggestions.

My budget right now is around $20,000 and would need to get it from a dealership. Also, what dealerships would you guys recommend going to?

Sorry for really simple questions I'm really not too knowledgable when it comes to cars and fuel economy :okay:

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks a lot.

For around the price range i would personally choose either a:

-Honda Civic
-Honda Fit
-Toyota Corolla
-Toyota Yaris hatchback

All these new vehicles are very fuel efficient and are known for its reliability.

There are many cars on the market, so you should test drive any car that comes to mind. You don't know, you just might like a Yaris hatchback instead of a Civic. :)

Why not used from a dealership? You can get a nicely loaded, low miles version of most of these cars if you opt for a 2 year old one. A year ago, I paid a shade over 21k for a 2007 TSX with only 22k on it, I felt like I stole it.

I would get a used mazda 3

Thanks for the suggestions guys!

I'm going to look into those cars now. Those Hyundais look really nice!

Do you guys have any used dealerships you'd recommend that has a good choice of he Hondas and Hyundais.

The Fit and Yaris look like they'll be nice compact cars.

A manual transmission would be beter on gas too right by a bit?

If your looking to save money, I can't confirm, but heard rumours of the 2012/2013 Honda Civic needing 91 octane gas?? (Kind of defeats the purpose of fuel saving when you need to put in 91)

Manual transmission cars give you much greater control over your gear choice and throttle, meaning, if you drive correctly, you *can* save more gas, but it's not guaranteed.

Chevy cruze?

the value for money in the new accent hatchback is pretty good too
there are also some used 2011 sonatas for under 20k

Yaris is definitely getting a little long in the tooth.

One of my favourites is the nissan cube though, awesome fuel economy, easy to park, endless practicality.

CSX
They're quieter than Civics, have a few more bells and whistles than a Civic, and they depreciate like crazy. It also has the smooth K20 engine found on the RSX.

I would buy a remaining 2011 Civic over the new 2012

donjalapeno 11-16-2011 12:03 PM

Veloster, elantra, accent, slightly used 2011 sonatas and CSX are probably the best bang for the buck

Kia Rio?
It looks decent (more so than it's Hyundai counterparts, especially the Veloster :Puke:) and has a fair amount of features at its price.

If I were in the same situation, I'd buy the new toyota yaris. If I were getting used, definately look into a Mini non Cooper S. Those things get 5-600km/s per tank.

Veloster won in the Sports/Performance category under $50,000 against some heavy hitters such as the Mercedes C-Class Coupe.

Certified pre-owned Mazda 3 or Prius.

I drove a 2010 Prius in Seattle over the weekend (might be out of your price range by a bit) but wow, amazing car. The interior fit and finish was not what I expected for your run of the mill Toyota. It was actually nice. Decent amount of low-end torque to boot around in the city and the brakes, if one is not careful, is rather snappy. Lots of interior space and a very comfortable drive.

A very misunderstood car in many ways but I'd pick one up if I didn't have the M3.

I'd take a look at the Ford Fiesta or Focus as well - they're actually really great cars. I think the Focus gets pricier with some options - maybe more than a civic, but my friend had one as a rental, and it's actually quite nice to drive.

Can't hurt to test drive it while you're at it.

ForbiddenX 11-17-2011 11:24 AM

I've never really gone to a dealership before but if I walk in just wanting to test drive a few cars would they let me? Or would I have to make it seem like I'm wanting to buy it?

I'm wanting to go test drive most of the cars suggested because I can't really decide just by reading lol.

I'm probably going to get used though. Seems it's going to be a challenge to find exactly what I'm looking for after I know what I want though!

Thanks again for all the suggestions guys!

Also, how accurate are L/100km on the sites for these car manufacturers?

So I went to a Honda dealership today and I went ahead and test drove the 2012 Honda Civic LX. Overall I liked the car and it had a lot of cool features.

What I liked the most was that digital display thing was pretty cool lol. I'm planning on going to Richmond Auto Mall since all the dealerships are there.

Would you guys say that the EX for the Civic is worth it over the LX? It's about $2000 more.
