96 Camry LE CEL

Co-worker has a 96 Camry LE with the I4 motor.
Her CEL light is on and has gone to 3 different mechanics and has spend over $400 on repairs that haven't corrected the CEL problem.

I know the OBDII port is under the coin tray but can you jump the OBD port to get the CEL codes?
I've done this on Honda's and Nissans but can't find how to do it on Toyota's.

Every search has come up with go to AutoZone and get them to scan it.

I am at work and there is no AutoZone near by.

TIA.

What wrong with the car exactly?

Try to get a OBD port reader. I always knocked some lines loose on my Highlander when I swapped the filters and it would trigger a CEL about the charcoal canister. The port scanner/reader will tell you what the code is.

Isn't there a proprietary diagnostic port in the engine bay? Jump the pins together and watch the CEL flash and then you have the fault code.

Is that car even OBDII?

Car is OBDII but from all the searches, everyone has said to go get it scanned.
The OBDII port in the car only has 4 active pins in the 16 pin port.

It's ok. I told her to talk to her mechanic and it might be one of those trial and error things to find the culprit.
