Well Halo squatting is 300lbs body weight plus whatever is on his shoulders.

Me would be 230lbs body weight plus whatever is on my shoulders.

If we both squat 350lbs he's actually lifting more weight than me.

Berz out.

It's less impressive to squat closer to your body weight. Does a 350lb man squatting 350lbs sound impressive? Or does a 160lb man squatting 350lbs sound better

yea but your body weight is entirely negligible difference, and not even accounting for the fact that the heavier person has more muscle mass to compensate (other things equal)

pretty sure anyone do unloaded squats at least 20 times regardless of the amount they barbell squat so the point is moot

instantneedles 11-22-2013 12:28 PM

there's no point. your strength is a combination of your technique, contractile force, muscle mass, etc etc.

Let's compare guy A and guy B and both weigh 200 lbs.

Guy A has no lower body muscle mass whatsoever, but injects creatine into his body so all his muscle mass is focused on his upper body. He now has to push that much more weight with his inferior legs on top of the weight on the bar. he is the equivalent of the bermudas triangle, a tree without a trunk.

Guy B has the wheels of a freight train, and a medium upper build. the muscles that are active in a squat, ie. thigh, hips, back etc have the contractile muscle tissue he needs to squat big, and hence most of his bodyweight is concentrated in the lower body.

so yes, if you are guy A you will not be a strong squatter, in which case, it would be to your advantage to make up silly excuses such as factoring your bodyweight into account when you squat.

Ulic Qel-Droma 11-22-2013 04:03 PM

zilley lol... you have returned.

some dumbells are not even. at sport central a lot end in funny numbers like 2, 3, or 0.5 lol.

my guess is they originally were the skinny handlebars with the plates, but the plates got removed and attached to a fat handle grip, and they just weigh the whole dumbbell itself.

Berzerker 11-22-2013 04:24 PM

^^^ exactly. Each db was weighed for accuracy.
