^ So you know that you tore into the muscle fibers and it feels good.

Soreness is NOT an indication of whether or not you tore muscle fibers i.e. had an effective workout.

Hondaracer 10-07-2010 08:37 AM

Well I figure doing reps to failure would result in some soreness, maybe all the protein I'm eating has made me super human

i usually am sore after a work out 95% of the time, so when i dont feel sore i think i did not work the muscle hard enough, i believe soreness is a great indication tho

hal0g0dv2 10-07-2010 08:39 AM

honda, do u always just do barbell bench or do u switch it up

Hondaracer 10-07-2010 08:41 AM

Switch it up with dumbells, But I hadn't done chest in like 1.5 weeks, next time I'm gonna alternate and see what happens, need to learn the proper names so I can tall about it better, right now I'm just following these PDF's I found off BB.com for new exercises/form so don't always remember the names

Are you talking for biceps? or everything in general?
Sorry im a bit noob when it comes to the gym slang

Ya but apparently after a while of training your body doesnt get as sore as it normally would, because it adjusts to the strenuous conditions.

I used purplewrath last week…HATED it! My body started getting these shivers and tingles..it said that on the package but man it is distracting.

I still find I get good workouts even without the conclusion of pain the next day. I still get gains in both strength and mass. The only muscles that I get the next day pain are in my legs. And they hurt to the point where I look handicapped when I walk. (No offense to handicapped people)

Maybe that's just me?

Maybe it depends on how you're training? I dunno if this is a good thing, but every other week or so I change my workouts slightly so I'm not always doing the same things..

However I've also steadily been making strength gains, especially my chest and shoulders which were alot weaker about a month ago

incubus 10-07-2010 12:30 PM

I also feel the same way as halo, if I dont feel sore then I dont believe I got a good workout.. and im always able to get the same bodyparts sore to the same extent since ive been working out.. i dont really switch up exercises too often.. i guess some ppl are just different

The_Situation 10-07-2010 01:35 PM

I really think soreness is an indication of a good work out. I mean I have never had a day where I pushed myself to the hardest and didn't get sore a day after.

sonick 10-07-2010 02:31 PM

Okay, re-wording. More accurately, I meant to say that the lack of DOMS does not indicate a poor/ineffective workout. That's not to say that it isnt a very satisfying feeling to be sore after a heavy workout!

Fobman 10-07-2010 03:01 PM

been working out for almost 2 years now, and everytime i hit the gym and after next 2 days muscle always sore lol
but i love it

!Yaminashi 10-07-2010 03:15 PM

Only 2 days? damn sometimes my soreness can last up to 4, depending which muscle group was worked. But the 2nd day is always the most sore

DC5-S 10-07-2010 03:45 PM

same here, most I had was five days if soreness

i really only get it in my chest if i do flys and really squeeze at the top, flat bench press doesnt do it for me

my sholders have been getting hammered from standing military press, love that shit now

bis and tries tonight, i like to do slow negatives on my chin ups, just slays my biceps

Everything, the eccentric (negative) portion is when the muscle fibers tear. So if all you're after is DOM then just do that.

DOM is the worst thing IMO, yes its nice to feel sore since it psychologically indicates we had a good workout. But other lifts may suffer cause of it.

Foam roller FTW!

sonick 10-07-2010 05:31 PM

^ yah man... You want soreess? Foam roll your quads, hamstrings and especially your Iliotibial Band (the muscle on the side of your quad, opposite of the groin). That shit'll give you mad DOMS for a week if you've never done it before.

Foam roll is for recover purpose.

Yeah, but when you first do it and are not used to it, it'll be very sore. Once the muscles are accustomed to it in the long run, it reduces DOMS.
