For military press are you guys going all the way down to below your chin and back up, or above that?

!Yaminashi 10-18-2010 02:58 PM

I think I stop AT my chin

Well for me I had a problem with increase my BB Bench Press then switched over to DB Bench Press and increased in load massively over my BB Press. After about a month I went back to BB Bench Press and my DB matched my BB weight. How low are you hitting when doing Military Press. might have something to do with that?

I usually go just a little below my chin then as I lift back up I don't extend fully as I lose the pressure on my shoulders. I find it works better that way keeping pressure on the shoulders for a better exercise, imo.

RRxtar 10-18-2010 03:21 PM

Just started doing standing BB presses 2 weeks ago. Ive not done them before because Ive always had a fear they cause back problems. In any case, my seated DB press is about 85/90lbs and I did 100lb standing BB press last week. Definitely some room for improvement. and it definitely feels like a good exercise

sonick 10-18-2010 03:37 PM

I find flexing/squeezing your glutes (aka ass) tight helps to ensure the lower back is stabilized.

tried to get a pic today but i was scared of getting jooked

I was sitting on the bikes that sit behind the treadmills, 2 black guys dressed in baggy ass jean shorts, doo rags, and the best thing: Tim boots undone to the point where the tongue was resting on the toe of the boot, running on the treadmills

uhg..

Hey guys, I'm new to this forum and have been working out on and off for the past 3-4 years.

I've been searching for a gym to join because I'm getting tired of doing drop ins anywhere I go and figure its time to settle down.

Has anyone here had a good experience with the golds on gilmore? I've been there once for free long ago. It was a nice facility, but I didn't want to pay commercial price. Now, I think I wouldn't mind as much. Any idea on pricing?

I love squats and deadlifts. In the past my 1 rep max DL is 405 and backsquat is 315. As far as upper body goes I am pretty weak.

Whats the point in exercising in shorts when you want to increase your getaway from the cops when you're wearing your tims and rags?

Been going to Golds on Gilmore for about 1.5-2 years now. Worth every dime in my opinion. The facility is never TOO packed but it does get busy usually after 5pm-8pm. Free Jui-Jitsu lesson are held upstairs as well as many other training activities such as Boot Camp.

Its around $126.00 once you sign up. That includes a $79 processing fee, $20 card fee, $21 bi-weekly payment for the first week then tax. I believe the bi-weekly payments went up to $22.50 or something. Anywho after that its $2x.xx bi-weekly, roughly $44.xx a month.

Standing bb press is quite the enigma

like DC5-S, i can do 65lbs seatted DB press, yet only about ~100 lbs good form and ROM standing military. I find it working out my back alot more as well. Probably just cause ive never really done the standing bb press.

trancehead 10-18-2010 08:33 PM

and part of my program...did 215 lbs deadlift for 8 reps. Ive never gone past 5 really so it feels good for once. 1RM was ~275 almost 2 years ago. Aiming to hit that with good form and a solid amt of reps

strykn 10-18-2010 08:51 PM

Hit 145 x6 with standing BB press today... just fucking destroyed my shoulders lol

hal0g0dv2 10-18-2010 09:47 PM

i got down to chin sometimes lower if they weight is heavy tend to go lower sometimes

doubled 2x6 risers. basically a 4x6. considering a house is built on 2x4s...

you could build that for $150

looks more like its for S&M.

Any tips on love handles + lower ab workout? my upper abs are fine, but the lower and love handles are just a bit too fat for my liking. I've been doing more cardio, but seems like is just losing fat on the rest of the body!

I typically military down to the chest and that's where I feel the muscles stretch and open up.. its a bit different for everybody... whereever you feel the sensation and where it works the hardest

Leg raises , side bends , side hypers , do not use weight or u puff out even more, I don't use any weight when doing abs and side abs , helps bring out the X frame more

Legs have been sore the whole weekend after an intense leg workout last week. Didn't help when the gf wanted to go shopping @ Metro over the weekend. Walking around the mall like all gimped lols. It's finally better today.

Did shoulders today, pretty good workout. My seated military press is a plate and 25s (185lbs). Although my DB shoulder press has dropped a bit. Back to 90lbs DB. I took a week and a half off after my Vegas trip.

DC5-S 10-18-2010 10:47 PM

^^ what did u do for legs?

Squats, Leg Press, Hack squat, hamstring curls and calf raises. I took a week and a half off prior so it's probably a combination of the break and intensity.

RRxtar 10-19-2010 03:37 PM

So I havent had much of a good workout in about 2 weeks becaue my shoulders (and other joints) are driving me crazy since the weather got cold a week ago.

Im supplementing a ton of shit trying to hammer it down.

What appears to be helping after hours and hours of reading: Fish Oil, Glucosamine, Potassium.

Also, my grandma picked me up a bottle of something called SierraSil because she heard someone on the radio always talking about it. Its apparently full of minerals from the Sierra mountains that Natives have taken forever. I cant help but think its nothing other than snake oil and to be honest, it looks like the capsules are filled with dirt. but at this point Im up for anything.

The doctor told me to "take it easy and take an ibuprophen."

keepz1 10-19-2010 04:10 PM

hey RRxtar i also heard on the radio about sierrasil its suppose to help people with joint pain and arthritis

let me know if it works

RRxtar 10-19-2010 04:15 PM

they guarantee results in 14 days. I started on the weekend so ill let you know. it ain cheap tho. $60 for 2 months worth. But I spend more than $30/month on less important things so if it works Id say its worth it.

And to put it bluntly, for the last 4 years Ive had horrible joint (specifically shoulder) pain when the weather drops for the winter. starts October and goes away in February. so if they dont hurt now, Im going to say the SierraSil had something to do with it. so we'll see.
