buy one of those grip things like i found in my garage. leave it on the coffee table. squeeze while youre watching tv or while waiting to respawn on mw2!
another fucking awesome gym day tonite. everything feels good, and im out of the unmotivated funk i was having trouble working thru for a few weeks.
Like I said before, what I've read says to use thumbless grip. I don't know Elitefts or who they are, that's why I questioned their credibility. To me, they're strangers. If you guys are claiming they're the gods of working out, then alright, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt.
I'll cite 2 links where I've read to use thumbless grip for squats:

Thumbless Grip. Put your thumbs on top of the bar, next to your fingers. You’ll be able to keep your wrists inline with your forearms.
3) Grip the bar as close to your head as possible. This will test your shoulder, elbow and wrist joint flexibility. The closer your hands are (within reason, your hands shouldn't touch your ears), the tighter your upper back will be, and the better the bar will sit on your back. Use a thumbless grip. You aren?t supporting the bar with your hands. You?re holding the bar DOWN against your back. Your wrist should NOT bend in either direction. It should be a straight line from your forearm across the wrist onto your hand.

I have used both grips and prefer using my thumbs, but I totally understand what you are getting at.
For myself, personally, I find that it doesn't really make any difference in my lift, because while my hands and forearms may slightly change positioning the weight is all on my traps.

I'm not claiming the above is gospel. It's just what I've read in the past and follow. If you have something to the contrary, I'd like to hear it.
honestly, imo, you are more likely to keep your wrists straight with a thumb grip... a thumbless grip, for most people, will likely get them thinking (suicide grip) like some people do on the bench press. also, i find there isn't any difference in my form or anything doing either grip.
We should get a list of exercises that make some people stop and go wtf.
-Barbell cleans
-DB step ups with 100s+ (not sure if its the exercise or because I step on the bench)
-Anytime I use chalk (for DL)
Front squats with elbows up (instead of crossed arms)... I saw some guy talking about it to his buddy.. So I approached him and asked if he wanted to try.. He said no, so I just explained that the hands are just there for balance, the bar is sitting on my shoulders.
I see this guy all the time. He spends 80% of his time talking to people and 20% doing various forms of curls. Usually everyone at the gym minds their own business, which is what I like about this place.
, this is were i place the bar when doing front squats, i have a pretty big upper chest so i almost put the full amount there, i learnt most my leg work outs from this dude, well watched and studied, he is the shizzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
[23-07, 02:03] shawn79 i find that at vietnamese place they cut ur hair like they cut grass
[23-07, 02:03] shawn79 do u go to vietnamese places for haircuts
for squats both front and back, doesn't it hurt when you have a lotta weight?
I'm not trying to be a lil bitch and all but the bar hurts my traps and sometimes grazes against the bottom of my neck when im doing back squats. Maybe they arent big enough to support squats?!?!! =O
And I would see the same problem happening for front squats except on the shoulder?

I think youre just holding the bar way too high for back squats
front squats...use ur shoulders to hold the bar basically

How often do you squat? When I first started, even baby weights were uncomfortable but now that I've been doing it for a while they feel fine - maybe you just have to do it more often and get used to it.
sadly to say i never really squatted much until recently.. =(
like started maybe bout 1 month ago and i do it once every week
ive been squatting just since last February basically and here are things ive learned to keep in check:
-pick a fixed object and STARE at it. dont look down, or to that sissy beside you doing some bullshit with the squat rack
-wear flat soled shoes (no shox or that bullshit)
-keep ur back arched and powerful
-push ur chest OUT
-keep ur feet PLANTED( i see people tippy toeing sometimes) and drive with your heels
-grip the bar as hard as you can (will help keep ur upper body tight)
-as you go upwards in the squat, push your knees to the sides OUT
*and the LAST thing i learned which really helped me progress in squats is to
-move hips BACKWARDS during downward flight.
not moving my hips hindered me from squatting close to ATG.
if you need help getting the hip motion down....try Good mornings. After doing GM's, which was just about 1.5 months ago, i can squat ALOT better now
