That would explain a LOT. I'm so irritable after the gym, and if the workout goes bad/I fail on a weight I could do before, I get pretty upset to the point where I talk to people differently ... wow ... this has actually been effecting my personal life pretty seriously.

On a side note, 2 plates + 35 on each side for 2 reps on deadlift, next week the big 3.0 plates! ahhhh.

Random post but this is really f-ing bugging me.

I don't have joint pain ever except for when I do curls .. I get a horrible pain that feels like the outside part of my forearm just past my wrist is splitting in two. Why the hell does this happen? It hurts like hell and I usually have to try really hard to not concentrate on the pain during the exercise. It happens whether I'm just doing standing curls with a bar, or on cables. The pain decreases to a more manageable level when I do preacher curl, and is pretty non existant when I do hammer curl. I don't workout my biceps much, just started doing them recently and they're being a bitch. Anyone else got this problem?

i dont like doing straight bar curls either. it puts a full range of motion twist on your forearms and puts it out of alignment. its not a natural movement.

use an EZ curl bar, hammer curl bar, or dumbells.

I'll try EZ curl next time, hammer curl is money though. I want my biceps to get bigger and get that nice peak, so it doesn't look my bi's are hella sunk lol.

So all you guys lay off the straight bar curls? What about heavy negative training, ie a weight way beyond what you can lift up, but instead lift it with two hands and lower it nice and slow with 1 hand? I do that a lot and it gets a really good pump and crazy soreness but I got no idea whether that's contributing to my growth or not.

If curls are hurting you, why do them?

You think because I suggest someone avoid doing an exercise that causes "horrible pain" and makes him feel like his "wrist is splitting in two" that means I somehow don't lift weights? what?

My advice: Take a break from curls for a while, let your wrists recuperate. There are still plenty of exercises available for bicep growth, and in fact if you do them instead of curls your arms will probably grow a lot faster. Pullups of all types, rows, etc.

But if you insist on doing curls, just try different positions to find one that is comfortable.

I added 0.8 inches to my arms (unflexed) by doing next to no curls at all. And I fully admit that my diet wasn't where it should be during this time (IE I wasn't getting in 200g of protein per day every day). If I can get that kind of progress with my not-so-great diet, anyone can

Do your chin ups, pull ups, rows, etc. Those will make your bicep grow.
Look at Ice1Cube, he (apparently) doesn't do any isolation exercises, but is still huge.

I used to have the same problem as you. I basically tried to keep my wrist straight, and adjusted my grip as I curled to see what feels comfortable.

No curls no gurls. I use to get this weird feeling in my forearms like the muscle was going to pop out. Never any pain though.

as i said, theres more than one way to do curls.

dips bug my shoulders, maybe i shouldnt workout my shoulders and tris either?

heres a reason why you should do curls: my back rows had plateaued and i could feel the sticking point was in my arms. i started doing arms, and my rows have steadily increased again. my bench and shoulder presses plateaued. i started doing arms, and my bench and shoulder presses steadily increased again.

If dips hurt your shoulders, don't do dips. Do something else that doesn't hurt.

When I say don't do curls, I am not saying don't work your arms.

How hard is that to understand?

theres 15 different kinds of curls! if one type hurts, try another. he already said preacher curls dont hurt and hammer curls are good! i said he should try different types of curls and explained why a certain type may give him problems. you simply blurted out "dont do curls"

whos giving better advice?

I agree, I shouldn't have just made a short comment. But I was busy, and I knew others would be able to add to the advice. What I didn't expect was for people to mouth off at me.. I thought we were all into the same thing here, and got along well? Why see the need for sarcasm and put-downs?

I do this: http://www.muscleandstrength.com/exe...able-curl.html

My forearms hurt a lot too when I try to do barbell curls with an EZ curl bar. I don't know why. Everything tightens up and I have to really gently put the bar down when i'm done because it hurts that much. So I stopped doing that, started doing the above exercise, and reverse barbell curls. For whatever reason, reverse doesn't hurt at all.
