After my surgeries for my detached retina, both my eye surgeon and specialist prohibited me from weights until healed because anytime you physically exert yourself, even as light as lifting 25lbs, pressure in your eyes increase that could cause problems post surgery. As with every lift, make sure you breath properly.

Quote:
Lifting heavy weights, particularly when holding your breath, creates a temporary increase in eye pressure that could damage your eyes over time, according to a study conducted by Geraldo Magela Vieira and other Brazilian scientists and reported in "Archives of Opthamology" in September 2006.

While aerobic exercise such as running and cycling usually decreases intraocular pressure, lifting weights increases pressure on your eye in ways similar to what happens when you cough or vomit. During weightlifting, air is forced into a closed windpipe, causing pressure to increase in your chest area. In Vierira's study, conducted with colleagues at the Institute of Specialized Ophthalmology and UNIPLAC School of Medicine in Brazil, intraocular pressure was measured among 30 males aged 18 to 40 while they did weightlifting exercises. The pressure in the right eye was measured when bench press was performed while holding the breath and the same was measured in the left eye of the individual when breathing was normal. Pressure increased in 90 percent of the participants when they held their breaths and in 18 percent of participants who breathed normally while lifting weights.

I had red stretch marks quite a bit over the inside of my biceps, but I just left it alone and it turned white after a while

Random question, where can I buy cheap fat calipers? I'm setting up a friend on a ketosis plan and I suggested calipers to keep track of their weight loss/overall conditioning, only problem is I got no idea where to get a caliper lol. Is this something popeye's would carry?

Also getting one for myself

http://www.amazon.com/Mens-Health-Huge-Hurry-Stronger/dp/1605299340
Stupid name (it's published by Men's Health) but solid program. It's a total body training program, so I don't have "arms day" and that sort of thing.

Have had what IMO are pretty good success with it, gaining about 12-15 lbs in 6 months. Looking back, I can't believe I used to have to do assisted pullups, and now I do them with plates on a belt. Starting weight loss now, on the same program. The book has sections for weight gain (and an advanced version), strength gain (and an advanced version) and weight loss.

It's only $15, and comes with illustrations of all the exercises done. Give it a shot if you want to try something new, or if you're not getting anywhere with the 'blast a different muscle group each day" plans designed for steroid users

If you do follow it, do it exactly as designed or you'll overtrain yourself.

Someone recommend me a low carb protein shake. Starting my cut now, so any advice/recommendations helps.

i've been doing alot of heavy lifting since january, so about a little more than 3 months now and definitely gained weight and size and my lifts have been heavier. i'm a soccer player and basically get my cardio though that usually 2-3x a week; i was thinking about starting high reps (12-16) workout to lean out more and also add more cardio throughout the week to help lean out. is this the base of "cutting"? or is there more or alot more to it than that? all help is appreciated

Yeah people seem to like it, I've even gotten PMs

BTW that should be 12-15 pounds gained, not 20... I wasn't really thinking when I wrote that

Looking to lose about 40 pounds, lost about 50 already last 2 years. Currently doing a normal gym routine, aswell as kickboxing. Anyone do crossfit? I'm considering ditching my weights routine and do full-time mix of crossfit/kb... Any suggestions?

Crossfit will make you a monster if it doesn't kill or maim you first.

And I'm only slightly exaggerating.

So I had my HYDROBUILDER shake. It's pretty much what I expected... delicious, creamy, chocolatey shake. I still don't get what makes it special, but there you go
