anyone know of any good books about lifting or training preferably positive and perhaps motivating? not looking so much for a 'how to'. i dont read at all and id like to start and i figure this would be a good topic to start with.
also for anyone who hasnt read it, this is a good quick read.
This may come off as a noob question but is there a way to do deadlifts without having to use an olympic bar? It's part of my training program for rugby, but the rec centre gyms only have 2 bars and they're usually in use on the benches (SFU has a way better Gym, but I'm not busing 2 hours just to work out).
I do this all the time. I paid for my membership, so if no one is using the bench, I'm taking the bar and doing deadlifts.
And of course, putting the bar back.
That's the thing, I ask this because 95% of the time I get there and the bar is in use and it's busy, and I'm not a fan of waiting around for it, then getting hounded to use it after I take it off the bar. Sometimes groups go 3 deep and I have to wait like 20 minutes so they all can hammer out 3 sets.
I'll have to be more ruthless then, but still, if I can't access a bar, any alternatives?

Just take the lighter 5 foot bar. It's not ideal but it should be good. I've used one with 3 plates on either side, and while not ideal, it gets the job done. Just don't smash it into the ground lol. I bent the shit out of it though

A BB friend of mine got me on a book called "Serious Strength Training"
http://www.amazon.com/Serious-Strength-Training-Tudor-Bompa/dp/0880118342
Apparently it's great, I just ordered it last week.
Since everyone is posting backs, this pic is shit quality.
my legs feel tinglyy now D: i must say i love doing 5x5 squats lol
once again @ ppl doing curls in squat rack
Stop trying to do squats in my curl rack!
Dhillon you are going to use 5x5 to cut? I have started back on isolation and adding cardio after workouts to start cutting. I'm hoping for more definition and less fat while maintaining as much muscle as possible.
does anyone else do cardio work on the elliptical/treadmill before lifting? trainers at FW say it helps get the blood flowing..seems kinda pointless if you're trying to bulk though

wouldnt kill you to do a 5 minute light jog. helps get the heart and blood going. i used to do that. now i just do 5 minutes of lifting before i start lifting

On leg days I warm up on the bike for 5 mins then do a full stretch. Otherwise I just do full stretches on the muscle group I'm working before I start lifting, and that tends to get the blood flowing enough that I don't end up hurting myself.

I warm up on the elliptical; especially when it's cold outside. I find even the 15 second walk from my car to the gym door my entire body is freezing by the time I'm inside

Way to much shit going on in my mind with being away from family and friends. I go because I know if I don't I'll spiral into not going a lot. I figure a half assed workout is better than no workout at all.
As for the warm up? No. I do a couple sets of light weight with full range of motion and a good stretch with the weight before I start lifting heavy.
this is an older pic....keep in mind Im only 155lbs...

Motivation this time of year is fucking rough. Coming back from vacation I had ZERO motivation, no competitions, vacations = no place to take shirt off = loss of motivation.
Imagine living somewhere where it's hot every day? Fack my motivation would be through the roof.
On a side note, I drove to the gym at lunch today, order a PWO Drink, go into the changing room get changed and.... I didn't bring any fucking running shoes. Had to dump the drink out and head back to work, fucking bullshit :/
Damn, losing all my motivation to workout must be the lonely christmas im spending by myself this year. Posted via RS Mobile
