Here's a question for you DaFonz. I read the article you posted on metabolism where the author claimed/proved 98% or something of people have the same metabolism.

How does meso/ecto/endomorph fall into that picture, then?

It doesn't and as skinnypupp said, mostly broscience.

Your metabolism is largely determined by the amount of lean body mass you have. Variations between people with the same height and weight can mostly be explained by LBM.

People who say they have a fast metabolism are likely overestimating their caloric intake or underestimating their activity levels.

People who say they have a slow metabolism and can't seem to lose weight no matter how little they eat are likely just fat and eat too much.

Since I like throwing around anecdotes - over my life I've met lots of skinny people who claim they could eat a lot. Eating with them, I noticed the same thing almost universally - they'd eat slower than me, finish way after me and then claim that "I totally ate as much as you". They'd then say stupid shit like "if you eat slower, you can eat more" which anyone who has taken high school biology would tell you is wrong.

What's the point of it all? People are horrible at estimating how much they eat. Unless you're weighing your food and counting out the calories, you don't know shit.

tl;dr:

Lose weight: eat less
Not losing weight: eat even less
Gain weight: eat more
Not gaining weight: eat even more

I think a big part of it comes from the mind being deceived by what people look like. Imo it all boils down to bone density... A person could have a high bf% and still look skinny simply because his skeletal structure and muscle fiber size is relatively smaller... This imo is how ecto, meso, and endo fit in and come to play. Same principle that dafonz mentioned would come into play here as well tho

I'm plateauing :( I have tried my best to eat as much as I can and it's paid off up until recently. I simply can't do any more. Both financially and time wise. :( I'm still gonna lift like a beast everyday but I think I've reached that point where I'm gonna stagnate. We shall see though. Been 205 for 2 weeks. I wish I could GOMAD :(

Berz out.

i just woke up from a dream where my mother tattoo'd my whole back and in one part it said " i will lift til i die " :suspicious:

Matlock 05-23-2012 02:41 PM

Hey, we're about the same weight. Except for the fact I don't bench :troll:

Chest takes a bit of time to develop...

I weigh about 165lbs and I can only manage 225lb on the bench press at the moment.

I can get 3-4 sets in, last set always lacks. Been stuck at this weight forever.

Uhm what you could try to do to increase your bench press is to over train your chest a bit....this requires a spotter though to help balance the bar.

Do three sets, beginning with your first set of max weight (185lb) , maximum of 4 to 6 reps.

If you're able to do a solid 4 to 6 reps on your first set, add an additional 2.5lbs each side for your second set. If you're able to give another solid set, then repeat and add an additional 2.5lb on each side.

I'm about the same as you right now. 225 lb for 165 lb is pretty impressive... I never really do barbell benching anymore because I never really have a reliable spotter at the gym, so I always turn to flat bench dumbbell presses or incline bench dumbbell presses...

I find that going into the higher rep range 10-12 really helps with gaining the strength necessary to go for higher weights, it gets the blood flowing whereas if you go for heavier weights, its harder to balance and places less emphasis on the chest and more emphasis on other muscles. What you're looking for in a good chest exercise is a well-balanced, well-controlled rep speed/tempo...

hal0g0dv2 05-23-2012 03:41 PM

I have always done high reps on bench before jumping up the weight, testing your max is fun once in a while but doing one reps on bench seems pointless and dangerous. 3 plates is usually my max weight and around 6-10 rep range

It's not bad, I'm still trying to aim for 150% of my body weight so about 245lbs.

Took me about 2 months to get my flat dumbbell chest upto the 100's

Currently my incline is about the 75-80lb range...

Time to get focused and get some results :accepted:

haha, hmm i wonder if my body shape is exactly the same as yours because all your stats are the same as me...

on another note...

very inspired by this, this guy weighs at least 10 lb lighter than me, at 149 lb and shoulder presses 135s for reps, bench presses 325 for reps... man I feel pathetic :okay:

Team bicep curl just arrived at the Richmond fitness world, hogging up the squat rack and two bar bells, what the fuck man.
