Wow a 5 plate what a joke, kick him out,

Santofu 05-23-2012 06:22 PM

FOR ALL OF YOU SQUAT,

is it cheating if you use a cushion around the barbell to avoid pain on your back? For me, I honestly can't do it without it.

TypeRNammer 05-23-2012 06:31 PM

The worse thing the bicep crew did was hogging up two benches, doing drop sets, using dumb bells for
5 pounds all the way to 35 pounds.

I wouldn't call it cheating since ur legs are doing the work. But I swear, ever since I ditched the padding, my traps and neck area are looking more hardcore lol. Prolly just coincidence

i don't consider it cheating, but i personally like to do them without it

i used to to use it every workout, except when one day i couldn't find one.
i tried it and it wasn't that bad and i never had to go back to one.
after a few workouts you don't feel pain in your back
in fact, a few weeks ago my friend had a pad on and i wanted to try it and it was actually harder for me to squat :S

I recall when i first started squating, someone said using the bitch pad was for pussies, and someone on revscene said that too. So i just didn't use it. It hurt like hell at first, had some light pain the next day, but i quickly learned what it meant to "put the bar on your bunched up muscles."

So in your case, you might want to consider enduring the pain for a day, or just continue with the pad, but keep in mind, when you build a thicker cushion on your back, it's best to squat without the pad.

Some guy at my gym has the thickest back, year older but he put 400lbs on his back, low bar style no problem. i was like :okay:

Verdasco 05-23-2012 07:00 PM

friend told me it's a pussy/bitch pad so i never used it. Remember to place your bar where it is comfortable, high or low position. Is richmond fitness centre empty or crowded at times? Anyone know how it compares to the oval?

hal0g0dv2 05-23-2012 07:01 PM

get a good yolk and you dont need the bitch pad

Santofu 05-23-2012 07:04 PM

:okay: time to back to square one. starting with 20lbs :okay:

Starting out, I always used it then I learned to low-bar squat and it feels a lot better. Keep practicing with the bar resting on your rear delts and you won't need that maxipad

POUND FOR POUND - Natural Bodybuilding: Benching 325 at 149lbs - YouTube

Pro Bodybuilder Richy Chan - Shoulders: The Hard Road Back Pt. 2 - YouTube

very inspired by this, this guy weighs at least 10 lb lighter than me, at 149 lb and shoulder presses 135s for reps, bench presses 325 for reps... man I feel pathetic :okay:

Too bad his squat is severely lacking in quality. The rest of his lifts look good. Not really sure about the 6 inch DB shoulder press though.

instantneedles 05-23-2012 07:53 PM

I've always used the cushioning when I did squats until one day a guy told me I'd be able to put on alot more weight if I did it without. It's cus the cushioning actually redirects the weight on your body and makes it harder to stabilize your movement. After that, I squated 90 lb more (1 plate each side)

Took me about 2 months to get my flat dumbbell chest upto the 100's

Currently my incline is about the 75-80lb range...

TypeRNammer, race to 3 plate bench press :concentrate: ?

alot of bodybuilders actually like to keep a shorter ROM for things like shoulder press and bench press cus it helps keep constant tension in their muscle fibers.. For his purpose I think he was trying to isolate the delts

Going to start taking pre workout again. Getting less motivated at the gym. Took a sample of napalm by muscle warfare (same company chestbrah is in) and holy what a difference.
I was wired out at the gym. People probably thought I just popped.
