i think he meant olympic weightlifting shoes..? if you're going for oly's risto sports have some wider ones, i haven't ordered yet but they're cheaper than the adidas one's and if you have wide feet it's a safe bet to get them |
Yep, I was talking about Oly weightlifting shoes. Those Kai Greene ones look like flat sole wrestling shoes. |

Oly shoes for pulling? Your position would be too far forward (I'm referring to a PL deadlift). Ripp is a good writer but he should really stay far away from Oly lifting. As you or someone else here has recommended, Chucks are good for DL. I'll typically train in Chucks and switch to DL slipppers for comps. I'd recommend shoes for a number of things: squats (high bar), overhead presses, oly lifts. You also don't have to complete the classical lifts - things like clean pulls are great for building explosive power. We prefer to teach this movement to athletes rather than the complete lift. You get much of the benefits without worrying too much about technique(essentially once you are finished the 2nd pull, receiving is what's largely left). I believe, the crossfitters call this the, 'high pull'. For $100, the Adidas Powerlift are decent and free shipping from the shopadidas.ca site. The 2012 Adistars just came out as well. I have the 2 previous versions of the Adistars. |
www.projectswole.com/weight-training/werewolf-muscle-training-with-dumbbells/ I was browsing around and found this routine. Do you guys think it's worth a try? |
that is suppose to be really good my buddie did and loved it |
oly shoes would work for dl because you will be able to use your quads more |
sweet gains erased fuuark |
What's your goal when you're deadlifting though? Why place so much emphasis on the quads? Are you referring to a PL style pull or Oly? They're two very different animals. |

But definitely he recommends OLY shoes for squatting. |
Personally I'm interested in weightlifting shoes because I read they can help keep a straighter back angle at the bottom of a squat and at the start of a deadlift. I've tweaked my lower back a few times before because I was dumb and tried to lift heavy while being terribly inflexible. My mobility has gotten better now but if weightlifting shoes can further increase the margin of safety, even if it means pulling a little less, then it's worth it for me. Edit: Oh, and Rippetoe only recommended shoes with a modest heel, around 5/8" (no more than 3/4"). |
