compound exercises are all about being explosive and moving the weight as fast as possible

TouringTeg 10-15-2012 08:55 PM

I focus on one point on the ceiling and push the bar towards it instead of focusing on the bar.

Has taken me a while to improve on bench. Doing 205lbs 3x5 @ 180lb. Tonight did flat bench db 90lb 3x5 again. Going to try 95s next time!

In my honest opinion, if you want to solely focus on improving your chest development and are a bodybuilder wanting to increase pennate angle of your muscle fiber attachments to bone, don't lock out your elbows.

But if your goal is to increase bench numbers, then lock out your elbows because going through the full range of motion for the bench press is what will help you develop that extra tendon strength through full extension.

I've done some similar things as others here. Look at one point in the ceiling, arch back, wrist in-line. And watched the video from " So you think you can bench series" by Dave Tate.

But definitely will now include more DB chest exercises and explosiveness.

Girl: Why are there so many veins on your arms, are you on steroids?

Me: No, but thanks for asking.

Me: *Benching a 135 lb for warm up*

Le boy: *walks over* can I work in with you?

Me: Sure

Le boy: *does 5 reps* is this a bit too heavy for you? I can take it off and you can rep the bar if you want.

Me: Nope I'm good. *slaps on another plate on both sides and reps out 8*

Le boy: *slowly disappears with the walk of shame*

Me: *slaps on another 25lbs for a 275 2 rep max*

Le boy: dafuq :heckno: (mirin from a distance)

/success

What do you guys do to warm up your rotator cuffs before a shoulder workout? I've strained both of them in the past on chest day. Don't wanna go up in weight for shoulder day until I strengthen my rotator cuffs somehow.

The benchpress is all about leg drive. What I caught in the gym today:

Notice how the weights flew up about the same time as the legs? It wasn't a coincidence!

It looked like he was about to give birth.

BinsentoW 10-16-2012 12:19 AM

Was that guy spotting him from the front? Or could he not finish his rep and someone jumped in to help him?

red_sir 10-16-2012 12:30 AM

I do believe he was spotting from the front hehe.

Are you sure the boy didn't come over and kick the barbell while you were completing your rep? :troll:

Frank Yang - Upperbody dynamic warm-up - YouTube

dynamic stretching will help. but the fact that buddy already strained both cuffs say that they are
1)weakened and he needs to strengthen them (just googled/youtube rotator cuff exercises) - the imp thing is to do high reps/light resistance when working your rotators for isolation

2) scar tissue has built up and restricting your shoulder's ROM, causing pain almost always when doing chest/shoulder exercises.

Meowjin 10-16-2012 01:46 PM

Me and red_sir are pretty fucking beast.

Just saying.
