all this 'plates' and 3/4 plates is kind of confusing, why not just say "90 lbs" or whatever :lol

RRxtar 09-13-2010 09:01 PM

a plate is 45lbs or 20.3?kg

i had my first indoor soccer game of the season tonight. got run into the wall right at a door real hard from behind. hammered my right hand at the meaty part of the thumb into the edge/corner of the door frame and im pretty sure cracked the bone. swole up instantly and i cant hold anything. we'll see how it feels in the am but im abit worried. :(

Hondaracer 09-13-2010 09:36 PM

back to school and back to the gym full time i guess now

5'10 200lb's right now, looking to be ideally 175 and work on lean muscle from there, my legs and upper body are alright right now, just have a gut from beer/over eating :/ so my focus is mainly on cardio at the gym and push weight at home

goal is under 180 by christmas, thinking of working on an Atkins diet or at least limiting my carb intake drastically from what its at now

JSilver 09-13-2010 09:41 PM

Killer back and bicep workout. Moving up on my Deadlifts, pretty happy about that. 40lbs away from 3 plates on each side of 6-8 solid reps. 40lbs sounds like a lot, but I think I can manage to get there within a month... I hope lol.

BlackV62K2 09-13-2010 10:26 PM

Did shoulders today as well. Managed to do 3 sets, 6 reps with 95lbs DB for shoulder press. I'm going to try to do 100lbs DB by the end of the month. I'll see how that goes.

Also did seated Military press, Hammer Strength shoulder press, Arnold press and ended with some DB raises (front, side and rear). I agree that shoulders are hard to develop, just recently I pushed through my plateau for shoulders.

RRxtar 09-13-2010 10:44 PM

fuck 100lb dumbell shoulder presses is fuckin solid dude. dont see alot of guys in my gym moving that much. im hoping to go from 85s to 90s as soon as my gym partner gets home. providing my hand isnt broken.

and your right, shoulders are tough to move up in. it probably takes me 6 months to move up 10 lbs. and i dont actually feel that shoulder presses really give any growth, more strength. i seem to get more growth by raises.

my gym is doing about a 14,000sq-ft expansion (basically doubling the size) and the trainers said to write on the comment cards what equiptment id like to see added. so every couple weeks i write " a second bench press, a real power rack, and dumbells from 105-125lbs. "

m4k4v4li 09-13-2010 10:55 PM

lol the 1plate=45lb is probably one of the most common terms heard in the gym. its almost like saying you don't know what noob means on the interwebs

question for you guys. list a few supps you cant go without and why. aside from protein.

Alphamale 09-13-2010 10:57 PM

I rememeber someone mentioning something about a fucktard doing curls @ the squat rack.

I experienced this day. I was about to rage. I needed to do my military presses. Dumb cunts couldn't curl worth shit properly anyways.

Supp: 1MR, shit makes me go crazy at the gym.

The_Situation 09-14-2010 01:07 AM

My pass just expired today. I'm moving to the YMCA at langara. Hope to see any of you who go there.

That analogy only works if you mean someone goes to the internet to only do work and not waste time on boards... Some of us go to the gym with one goal in mind - to work. Not to yap to others "Yo dudebro I benched 2 plates last week lol. K bro I'm gonna go do some wrist curls in the squat rack now"

And the supp thing has been covered many times already

ws6ta 09-14-2010 06:35 AM

how much water do you guys drink in a day?

SkinnyPupp 09-14-2010 07:09 AM

RRxtar 09-14-2010 08:08 AM

When you say raises do you mean front/side lateral raises etc?
I would think that the stronger your shoulders get the bigger they would get?

Side edit: I <3 when my shoulders are sore

JSilver 09-14-2010 12:14 PM

I don't drink enough water that's for sure. 2Ls of water and 2Ls of Milk.

hal0g0dv2 09-14-2010 03:25 PM

Don't get defensive. You didn't know something. You're human like the rest of us. We all don't know 1 thing or another. I'm humble enough to admit I don't know a few things.

BTW, I've never heard Jersey Shore-type lingo like what you demonstrated at a gym before. :)

hal0g0dv2 09-14-2010 05:44 PM

http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/m...view/index.htm

The consumer report article posted in another thread mentions this.

Shao, the industry trade-group official, says there is no such thing as consuming too much protein, as long as you're getting other nutrients in your diet as well. Not so, says Kathleen Laquale, a licensed nutritionist and certified athletic trainer. "The body can only break down 5 to 9 grams of protein per hour, and any excess that is not burned for energy is converted to fat or excreted, so it's a ridiculous waste to be recommending so much more than you really need," she says.

Truth to this?

strykn 09-14-2010 06:38 PM
